Expedition threats are breaking free. With Expeditions Unleashed, we’re bringing some of New World: Aeternum’s most fearsome bosses out of the dungeons and into the open world.

Event Details:

Prepare to face three of Aeternum’s most formidable foes—this time, outside the safety of Expedition walls. During Expeditions Unleashed, iconic bosses will emerge into the open world on a rotating schedule. Players Level 65 can take on these world-threatening enemies for rewards:

Mahantaram: May 20 – May 26

Godling Khepri Supernal: June 17 – June 23

Ifrit: July 15 – July 21

What are World Boss encounters?

World Bosses are open-world, large-scale versions of iconic Expedition bosses. These timed events spawn across specific locations throughout Aeternum. Players can trigger the encounter by attacking enemies at the event site, much like Baalphazu or the Winter Warrior events. Once activated, a powerful boss will emerge—ready to be taken down by anyone brave enough to stand against it.

Do I need a group to participate?

There’s no matchmaking or group requirement, but these encounters are designed for teamwork. You’re welcome to join solo, but you’ll likely need help from fellow adventurers to take these enemies down.

Are there special mechanics or unique challenges?

While these bosses retain their expedition roots, many of their attacks and mechanics have been rebalanced and redesigned to create dynamic, large-scale fights in an open-world environment. Expect familiar mechanics with new twists, scaled to threaten dozens of players at once.

To prevent unlucky streaks, a pity counter guarantees the following after opening 12 Bonus Boxes:

Boss-Specific Loot

Each boss drops a distinct set of legendary Gear Score 710 weapons, armor, and jewelry—with a rare chance at an exclusive GS 725 weapon, once per week.

Expedition bosses have long been a core part of New World: Aeternum’s PvE challenge. With Expeditions Unleashed, we’re reimagining that experience—removing barriers to entry and making these iconic fights available to all players, at scale.

By moving them into the open world, we’re not just turning up the threat—we’re creating shared, emergent moments across the map. You’ll see groups rally in real time, new alliances form, and stories unfold organically as players come together to face common enemies.

Each World Boss is pulled from the Expedition pantheon—familiar foes now empowered for massive-scale encounters. These aren’t just remixed enemies—they’re open-world manifestations of threats you thought you knew.
