Shopping Carthayleycomet8029: Ben Burtt is the John Williams of Sound Design
mattkd76: This video brought back a memory from 2002: I was leaving the Technical Building at Skywalker Ranch when a silver 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia drove into the parking lot. Unless I'm mistaken, I think Ben was driving it. Nearly 25 years later, it's still one of those little Skywalker Ranch memories that has stayed with me.
yvoncomeau: I would happily watch a 3 hour version of this video where they go scene by scene and talk about every sound effect.
ChristopherFisher_78: I could watch videos like this all day!
M1GarandMan3000: I love seeing Ben sporting a Sprocket Systems polo! Think they should've kept the name.
benjaminniemczyk: Ben Burtt is one of the great sound designers of recent history. His creativity is practically unparalleled, and his constructions have defined the sounds of generations.
CJBStudios: Even I’m surprised that it’s been 45 years already since this movie came out even though I wasn’t even born yet at the time. That being said, the sound design that you guys did for it is just fantastic.
russellkellett9535: Absolute legends thank you for some of the best sounds ever heard in movies
thebod1: I met Ben at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, he is the nicest man. We had a nice conversation about the mic input on the ARP 2600 used for R2-D2 in which he start to make R2-D2 sounds for me.
TMX1138: Are you missing a clip at 3:17-3:23?
elusive1970: What happened to the macaroni and cheese?
Tomofdahook17: Unbelievable video! Thanks for uploading this!
TMX1138: Can’t believe this movie is 45 years old now.
DerFinder: please make this 1h long next time haha
myomancer: Ben is a living legend of sound design. You could dedicate a whole series to him. Please let us peek into his ears some more!
funkydozer: These men are masters of their art and exactly 50% of Raider’s success.
Enjay001: Ben Burtt is probably the world's best known movie sound designer and yet he still deserves more recognition IMO. His work is arguably as integral to the audience experience as John Williams's music and just as characteristic. This applies to the sounds featured in the video, of course, but also light sabres, TIE fighters, Vader's breathing...
Williams and Burtt, of course, have a lot of films in common.
herrlogan17: Amazing! I was raised around watching Spielberg moviesc, especially Indy. The sound design was so spot on, a bit too pronounced, which suits the genre just perfect. These guys have made a movie history!
ryanfwood: The Ark sound being a toilet tank lid is incredible. I'm going to feel like I'm in Raiders every time I fix the toilet.
davejones6130: From guy wire Star Wars blaster bangs to toilet tank Ark openings , Ben is the Jedi Sound Master !!!
LostAurusStudios: I absolutely love seeing the behind the scenes things like this!
seantressel1754: 45 years…
davewestner: boy oh boy would I NOT liked to have had to do this kind of work in the analog days.
Just combining all of those punch elements must have taken 20min to line everything up correctly.
These days it'd be done in under a minute.
form347: Ben Burtt did so much to further modern sound design, particularly the crafting of complex layered texture.
johnwalton1771: Thank you to Ben and John for the gift of this video and your amazing work.
jeitoots: THE sound of the movies for the past 50 years!
Novastar.SaberCombat: I can hardly believe I crafted 9000 sounds over 2006-2018. Crazy to imagine.
