Indy told Marion to close her eyes because the Hebrew scriptures tell stories of the Ark's power and the Bible said that no man could look upon the Glory of God and survive. The Hebrew priests that transported the Ark on foot by lifting it with wooden poles were not allowed to touch it. One story tells of a priest putting his hand on the Ark to steady it when it appeared to be falling over. He died instantly.

LadoTsulukidze: There certainly IS a snow in Nepal, and actually lots of it, but higher up in the mountains. Not much populated areas there but there still are some settlements. In lower places it's rare, but still happens once in a while. Говорю как географ :))

Also - the traitorous local who've got impaled by the 'sun spike trap' is Alfred Molina, who's probably best known for playing Doctor Octopus / Otto Octavious in Spider-Man 2 from 2002. "Power of the sun in the palm of my hand." Also, also. Technically - Raiders of the Lost Ark is the first film to be rated PG-13 due to then-re-valuated movie rating system, or rather put in question of having something 'Between PG and R'. Starting an era of so-called "When PG-13 actually meant something".
