Shopping Cartpiotrjurczynski1506: I can't wait until Apple discovers pistol/pistol guardian.
torreyrg42: Glad you are enjoying the game, I think there is still more “unlearning” you have to do. Since there are 9 basic professions (classes) each with now 4 elite specializations, there are really 45 different “classes” that you would find in other RPG fantasy games. So to speak on guardian as others have also said:
The base guardian is a broad class fantasy of magic user heavy armor. This covers themes of cleric, holy warrior, paladin, battle mage, monk, and more. Are some of these super tanks hold the line shield wall kinds of builds? yes. But where does the spirit mage channeler who teleports in to unleash burning holy AOE but wears heavy armor to absorb a few hits while casting fit if not somewhere in guardian?
A single class as a whole is very diverse. Once you specialize with your traits and weapon choice and armor and upgrades that is when you get more specific detailed class fantasy. Restrictions and opportunity cost comes later.
If the sword skills don’t jive with your class fantasy, try mace or scepter if you want one handed, or great sword or hammer or staff for two handed weapons all of those skill sets will be in line with the class fantasy you describe.
TL:DR - it’s not the class that has to fit your fantasy/playstyle, it’s can you find your playstyle/role/fantasy in the class.
jameycoffey2559: Guardian is the "magical" heavy armor class. Think tank mage. The class you are describing resembles GW2's Warrior. Warrior is the weapons master. They do have some "leap" abilities, but those abilities seem fitting for a more weapon focus class verses a magical class. Think jump through the air to land an attack rather than a blink or teleport. Mobility is crucial to GW2 combat though so in general, all classes have some form of mobility skills.
AndrejaZivkovicREY: Guardian is imagined to be able to play in ways similar to paladin, samurai, cleric and alike classes so blink is for samurai types and more agile tanky heavy armor classes.
potato.panda_: The fact that classes are not bound to the typical stereotypes of rpg is what makes and set apart the system of GW2 to be so fun. It still ties the identity of horizontal progression as any class could do specific roles with the help of elite specifications.
stormscreed: I can't wait until he steps into the first zone in Heart of Thorns. Still one of the best zones in any game ever.
axf2810: After watching this video i wanna go back to the first time playing it. I miss the feeling of discover everything, getting a new weapon i never played, getting new skills, exploring the map for the first time...
Dzirt34: Have around 5.5k hours, I envy the players who just start and know 1% of this masterpiece
slydevil4759: You are still saving Tyria for the 5-th time, but in the meantime you can go make some drinks at the bar for the local pirates.
ghostapi874: I completely get what you say about class identity. I personally like more "pure" class design aswell but I did want want to express a core part of Guild wars 2 class design. The devs often ask the question what would a class like like if it would play like another class for example: Willbender is what would a guardian looklike if it played like a thief. Virtuoso asks what if a mesmer played like a mage. Ritualist asks what would a necromancer look like if it played like gw1 ritualist. Spector asks what would a thief play like if it was a mage. And so on and so forth.
Overtime my perspective has a slightly shifted because I started to see the value in distinct and unique design through the elite specialization system asking what would this class look like through the lens of another class. And result is not a loss of identity but rather a unique amalgamation with its own distinct strengths and weaknesses.
The reason the system works is you often need all the pieces. If you want to play a traditional guardian the game rewards you for designing a cohesive build and similarly if you want to play a blinking guardian the game only rewards you for leaning into to it for example by taking aggressive trainlines and the Willbender specialization. I think the problem with class identity for me comes in when you can just continue to eliminate weaknesses and have the ultimate class.
But ye after all that waffle I will say I'm really enjoying the new elite spec that came with VOE expansion for guardian because it is very traditional guardian design wise.
milham975: To fix the long loading screens get Raidcore Nexus, it's an addon hub that has an addon that is called something like "fast loading"
If you want more customizations for your character, get a total makeover kit, it has more options than the character creation at the start.
RazerTNT: true the blink shoud not be a heavy/melee class skill in the usual d/d fantasy, but the cool sht here is exactly cause u can, in what other game u can roll a thief healer or a tank necro with no minions? Guardian was a fine choice. P/P condi guardian is really cool, it reminds me of the gunner in tera. anyway check bdo too for ur vertical progression itch i know u have
-Miasimon: Really hope you check out some of the other classes eventually.
The light armor classes (especially Mesmer and Elementalist) are so different from anything you might be used to in WoW. Even Ele, which SEEMS
FriedFx: Play more, give us your opinion, we will watch :)
PotatoBag685: My man finally realized that you can't play games via YouTube.
Schproggi: have u checked out turtle wow?
Hatenashi_Raza: one thing i will say about the blink/teleports on guardian...it plays into the fantasy of the hero arriving when he is needed
different fantasy/vision of what we call the guardian normally...but it's very much there
Earthz1412: i have a video flying on the divinity's reach with my griffon, it's old video but still nice
brianthomas6316: The Incredible Hulk could jump. He was a tank.
johnwayne6646: Make a video about Dofus maybe
CristianLopez-mn1os: About Guardians Using Bows:
The reason Guardians can use bows is primarily due to lore! Without spoiling anything, a certain Guardian takes the bow of his/her deceased parent, who died at the hands of a dragon's minions. Since then, she/he learned to use it in his/her own way and created what is now known as "Dragon Hunters"! Guardians who use bows belong to this category!!
Its something similar with the others "strange" weapons
elodiedelva6895: Can this man be any cuter wtf
AmyTazny: I agree about the lack of class identity in GW2 and honestly for me it's a downside to the game, not only weapon and ability-wise but also armour-wise since Anet have stopped customising skins to suit light/medium/heavy armour aesthetics in recent years. Now they just make one armour skin and apply it to all armour weights (likely to save on time/costs), so a thief/elementalist can visually look like they are wearing heavy warrior armour, etc.
Personally, the weak class identities don't click with me but a lot of people don't mind or even like it. It does have some advantages like more versatility and player freedom but believe it or not, some players like being limited for the sake of immersion or to keep things more simple, familiar and easier to understand. GW2 has always wanted to put a unique spin on classic MMO systems and archetypes though so it's fitting with the game's philosophy, it can just be off-putting sometimes.
For me, GW2 certainly has it's downsides and I'm not wearing rose-tinted classes when it comes to those, but I still play because the positives greatly outweigh the negatives. The generous payment model, horizontal progression, unique mounts, creative map design, and amazing transmog system are things I just can't find in any other MMOs. By the way, will we be able to play group content with you in future? You seem fun to play with so I'd be interested to join, especially if you're ever doings raids because I love them!
