numenorean6408: It literally took me 3-4 years of constant attempts of returning/re-trying the game to finally get my guardian to 80. Now i'm assembling my first condi firebrand, just finished main story, while slowly enjoying completing all those renown hearts etc on the Tyria map)
I agree that info overload (salvage tools, storages, bags, gold aquisition and such and such and such) killed my urge to continue many times, but once you get a gist of it, you really start enjoying the game.
Definitely the best MMO i've played.
p.s. - the game also has the best community hands down.
hilding2063: Big source of frustration for somebody that plays since day1 on and off, is inventory management and the amount of currencies, trophies, collectables etc. If you have all the expansions and play a lot of different content, you inventory gets absolutely cluttered with items that you will have to consult the wiki for to decide what to do with them.
storklebeam7121: It's not that complicated. People just have a problem creating their own goals in a game that gives them the freedom to do so. Each stage of the game will give you plenty of information to help evolve your character. The game isn't just gonna play itself though you have commit SOME time to it.
Aurelyn: I keep quitting when I realize that almost all my time on this game is spent farming gold in some way and it's easier to just buy gems....
Stranglethorn: I bought GW2 when it first came out because Angry Joe made it seem like it was the best MMO at the time, I tried it and got frustrated and quit after just 2 months, every year I come back to the game and always find myself quitting again, I had so many things to nitpick like "why are there so many requirements for this" or "why do you have to do this to get that". Then finally after 12 years of on and off gaming, I came back again and just started loving the game, I still had some nitpicks but for some reason I am now immersed and cant seem to stop playing, theres so much things to do, I cant believe I had the game for 12 years and didnt do anything when I couldve been one of the veterans running around with so much cool stuff on them.
Ehab.W.Y: GW2’s design philosophy is what kept me from quitting MMORPGs altogether. Its horizontal progression system keeps me engaged, unlike other MMOs like Lost Ark, which made me feel like a slave—grinding on alt characters through zombie-like dailies and weeklies. And when I finally took just a two-week break, they released an update that completely devalued two years of hard-earned progress and gear upgrades, giving new players the same rewards in a week through some event.
In GW2, my progress always matters, no matter how long I’m away. The game never forces me into mindless grinding—it respects my time. Progress happens naturally just by playing how I want, at my own pace, without pressure. What satisfies me most is looking back at my journey, checking my account value on GW2 Efficiency, and seeing all the legendary gear I crafted. I smile and think to myself: That’s what a real MMO journey should feel like—every moment I spent was truly worth it.
prince.rastislav: Tried GW2 a couple times and quit in a couple hours, Than about two years ago i was looking for a new mmo to play and decided to give GW2 another try and i'm so happy i did, i don't know what changed in me but for some reason it just clicked and now it's one of my all time favorite games.
HeroineDark: As a vet player, I have a SPICY opinion/take on when to use that level 80 boost.... IMMEDIATELY. Make a 2nd toon with a different profession that also looks cool, use the boost on the 2nd toon, use a teleport to friend to get to the monastery in shing jea, and do the combat tutorial heart: Learn what a jumping puzzle is, see different kinds of attack indicators, learn what a combo field is, understand what the blue bar is.... ya know... the tutorial that ought to be in EVERY STARTING ZONE. Once you have completed the tutorial heart a few times, turn back to your 1st character, and go through the leveling up process normally, FAFO with the other game systems, and wonder why the hell you don't have a lot of money (because wealth in GW2 isn't just liquid gold, it is also in the materials)
TheCooderix: My biggest issue with GW2, but also admittedly the reason it's good, is the lack of a carrot. Once I hit 80, I almost always fall off immediately
smokepotion6981: i nearly quit, and it was the crafting grind that did it. Edngame, Legendary gear is crafted. You need 2 different maxed skills to craft whatever legendary stuff you want to craft, but you can only have 2 active trades at once, and the actual crafting is pure, mind-dullingly grind that the game forces you to do. I HATE IT. But then I logged on and randomly decided to clear all the open world bosses, and remembered why the game is so fun.
COOLNESSS87: Personally i think the way gear progression is in gw2 is one of the biggest turn of for many ppl who get dopamine from getting better stats...
angrydodo2508: I have started and Quit this 4 times already never manage to stay more than 2 days, I like the game but just cant stick
ThorindirNaari: i keep on bouncing of the game for 2 main reasons:
1: nothing you do feels like you are accomplishing anything - the "living" world makes it so you cant have any meaningful impact on the world.
2: grinding for mandatory ability to progress the story (jumps for mounts)
TheGuppy54: As someone who tried to jump on the game last year and quit despite loving it : too much currency, too much of everything in general and honestly even online guides don't really help.
I will give it an other try soon and hope don't quite this time
SpookyHour13: I quit until I figure out what I want next…I usually play once a year for a month or so then hop off…there’s SOO much to do with no real clear path. I wish there was more ways to farm legendary gear like boss drops and stuff…I play OSRS more now days because it’s ver straight forward of what I need to do. GW2 it’s just a teeny bit to complicated to keep my attention long term
thomastgnome6526: Ever since they introduced the "let's give new players a taste of the Raptor mount and then take it away" I've been calling it a bad idea. Does it get some new players to buy the expansion to get them permanently? Sure, but it also drives others away from the game.
vgpowerlord: I'm sure I mentioned this in the comments to a previous video, but one thing that really started irritating me was how to gain mastery points, you pretty much have to kill enemies that will flatten you if you try them solo.
Meaning that to advance skill trees in expansions, I have no choice but to wait for some player-run event to do a bunch of these in a row.
dragonriderabens9761: Heart of Thorns caused me to quit for years
As of last night, I finally finished Path of Fire after putting it off for a couple years after seeing the need to unlock the Springer.
I was struggling with PoF up until that point and just noped out.
No idea why RN.
All I know is that I was and having to unlock the Springer when combined with how much I was struggling and how badly HoT damaged my view of the game, I was broken (again)
I’m actually really, REALLY happy with myself on this, and looking forward to finishing Living World S4 and all the expansions that follow
ryandevine9524: this is 3rd time im back to this game, and this time i won't quit. im in love in this game
ApoIIonas: After playing the game with only one character for years and having recently creating a new character, I can confidently say that the thing that sucks the most is the leveling experience and the basic story. Everything is happening so fast and so slow at the same time. Old content feels clunky and abandoned. I can imagine how this gives new players a sense of loneliness while at the same time overwhelms them. The game needs some serious polishing in some areas, especially for new players...
kevinamery5922: #1 tip: you don't have to do everything. If something doesn't click with you, you can skip it; there are other ways to get gear and loot etc. so don't feel you are missing out or locked out. For example, I cannot stand jumping puzzles. So I avoid them.
GetThePizza: i played since release and didn't realize how gear works all the way until heart of thorns xpac dropped. the game does a godawful job at making it clear how its systems work
staceyhenley6134: Almost a year ago when I started, I was very overwhelmed. I just kept pressing forward and now I’m totally in love with everything in the game. Besides jump puzzles, that’s more hate than love.
CRAFT7445: I began playing GW in 2005 and transitioned to GW2 in 2012. I have a dozen Legendary weapons and a couple Legendary trinkets.
I quit playing a couple years ago, not because there wasn't anything to do, but because there was too much to do. I felt dragged in all directions.
I have three mules just for stuff that I can't/shouldn't get rid of because it goes to a long-term quest or a rare crafting component that may not drop in months of play.
Every month or so I get the bug to play again, sit down, log in, and ..... log off because I want the same feeling of excitement playing and it's gone. It's more like a job than a game.
glhx2112: Getting rid of the old school Daily Events and nerfing Champ Train's were two big mistakes in my opinion. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot during those events. I did most of my leveling in EOTM & WvW back when the game population was larger and events were always packed full of peeps. My best advice: Join a large Guild that caters to new players. I've been playing GW2 Since Beta and I am still having a blast.
DeltatechActual: I'm the only person in my friend groups that kept playing GW2 for over a decade.
I asked everyone who played why they quit. These are the responses from the 15 that answered.
3 people said Grouping- Having to wait for a group to form/can't find a group/ too little content is soloable
3 said content is too difficult or time consuming-It's too hard by myself/I don't have time to play/ I can't just jump in and out of a game.
8 said It's pay to win/unrewarding- I Had to buy an expansion then got to the point to HAVE to buy gold/ It took too long to earn gold by playing/I kept running out of bag space and the only way to get it is with real money./
1 (the best answer)said they beat the end game and final boss- I played GW2 for a few months and got to level 80 with 4 character classes without spending any money so I won because the cash shop is the endgame and paying Evon Gnashblade is the final Battle. If you pay you loose when the server shuts down!
sevenember3332: One of the things to keep in mind is levels 1-80 are the tutorial and you’re meant to take your time with it to learn how the class operates and which weapons and play style in the class work for you
