Why Guild Wars 2 Is Hard To Get Into If You Are An MMO Veteran

Mothware: As GW2 was the first MMO that I really got into, it's the opposite for me, these same reasons are exactly why it's so difficult for me to get into other MMO's.

nielsjensen4185: Hit the nail squarely on the head. Having your habits challenged feels "wrong" and most people will juist veer off because their usual way of thinking can no longer be used, even if they subconsciously feel it should be able to.

claymore016: My favorite MMO and the only game I just can't seem to drop. Even when I get tired of it I can just leave it for a few months until the next piece of content drops and come back as if I was just playing the day before.

simonwagner3723: My Endgame right now is crafting my 2nd legendary weapon. It's a challenge again, as i am cursed with being poor in every mmo i play :D. I find it difficult to get more gold as i can't sell most of the materials i get from playing, because i need exactly those materials for crafting my spear... So i think GW2 can indeed feel very grindy, but it depends how you create your personal goals in this game. I also think it is important to mention that the achievement window can be seen as your guiding hand or "quest log", as there are many tasks with sooo much cool rewards, but it can be difficult to navigate and understand at first.

(Have you done Dragon's Stand now :) ?)

Shrek_The_Mathematician: very accurate video for the most part but i want to touch on a few things :

raids as well as high level fractals (mythic ) do require specific player roles such as healers, supports, power dps, condi dps and even tanks for raids.

its not a regular trinity though, its a bit more complicated and there are more than 3 official roles.

but for most of the open world content except a select few you dont need dedicated roles, but it always help having healers and supports if that's what you like playing in other mmos.

Atlas3060: I like to think the traditional MMOs are like parents with a checklist. You have to play X for Y amount of hours, then rest, then go play and be sure you come back by this time.

Meanwhile Guild Wars 2 is like that parent that throws you out in the backyard with toys, sits on the porch, and says "You all have fun, just go do whatever okay".

Some folks will be confused, others will immediately see if they can take the toy truck and use it in interesting ways.

jrovel07: Very well put. I'd describe most MMO's as a continuous treadmill. They release said expansion with updates that make you chase the new gear over and over again. GW2 is like games you played when you were younger. You play because you want to have fun. Pvp? You don't win because you got a luckier drop. In pvp, if 2 players of the same class come up against each other, it's skill and knowledge of the game mechanics of one player vs the other player.

TFalconwing: Point of clarification that immediately dates this video: Strikes will be folded into Raids during the course of the next expansion. There will only be raids going forward.

Rhumolein: I remember when entering Tyria for the first time after nearly eight years of Everquest2, I had no idea or clue what to do and how to do and how to behave.

And now... can´t live without Guild Wars 2 anymore

siffegy: Fine ill redownload gw2

zearcjustice7837: I been playing gw2 for 10 years now , no matter how many other games I tried as flavour of the month , I always come back to gw2 it feels like home

sorin9597: Very nice video. Pretty much sums up the uniqueness of GW2

andre-b3g: basically in gw2 you dont get robbed by a huge company for playing a game

jessbun1737: I really like GW2 (coming from FF14) but there is one thing that irks me in general also with newer MMOs. I love to be a healer. You can't be a classic healer in GW2. That's literally the only thing that always brings me to a point where I stop playing. Sure I know in endgame you need a healer. But the healer is often also the tank and I hate tanking with a passion. So uh yeah. I wish it would just be bit more cleared who tanks, who supports, who heals and who is the brainless dps who smash button for big number.

staceyhenley6134: GW2 quite literally put items in places you never ever think to look unless an achievement forces you to look there.

benwox1548: I played it at launch , droped it, i cam by with a friend later on , dropred it and then Mounts, i trarted to underdtand more the game and everything clik. I do leave to play other mmo like Eso, but still returrn to GW2 after a while

TayCoMi: I booted the game up for the first time today after not playing since the 2nd expansion years ago. I felt lost just looking around my inventory. I don't even remember how to start changing my gear. I have a Warrior and Engi decked in full Ascended gear. I ended up just closing the game lol

thegrim418: I'd consider myself an mmo veteran. I started with Runescape, then WoW, but since money was hard to come by as a kid I jumped from mmo to mmo every few months as they came out and shut down. I started GW2 when I started college since HoT had just been announced and I was in between WoW membership. Hell it became my favorite mmo and I never went back to WoW. I was able to get all the enjoyment with none of the monthly cost and as a broke college student that was huge for me.

I recently this last summer decided to try the other 'big mmos' to see if they hold up after being only on GW2 for so long. WoW felt like a totally different game after all this time and I wasn't entirely happy about it. I used up my months membership, had some fun, but it didn't pull me back in. Then I attempted FF14....I couldn't do it.... It was clunky, I didn't like the job system much, and I REALLY hated how limited the character creator was. I just wanted a guy with a beard and it's like they were allergic to facial hair when they made the game. I never could get into it and I stopped after about a week of trying. Finally I tried getting into Phantasy Star Online 2 since I still have PSO for gamecube and still to this day enjoy it. It was pretty fun after their rework, it felt good to play, I still just couldn't get invested like I did when I tried GW2. So now I'm back to GW2 as my primary mmo. Oh, I did try Rift again but it's just too empty and feels abandoned to get anywhere in. Felt fine though, I still enjoyed it.

silversun-universe: Warcraft is like the good friend you make at work.

Final Fantasy is the friend that you have that is way smarter than you and end up feeling dumber for not understanding.

Guild Wars is that friend that you can leave for a while and then catch up in minutes of fun.

huevang3327: I'm just working on the free legendary accessories.

The story is about the great poo bah.

330DKNY: Not even close, go try a new account, try and gear up your first character, try to deal w/o an LFG system, try to deal with 100 currencies, with bags in bags in bags

delphidark: Actually it was very easy. it made it hard for other mmorpgs to make the cut now -- no monthly no pressure to login because youre paying for the time and you dont have much time and the game turns into job

take a break- have a baby - waste time in another game, come back and you still can pop off in the group like you always was there.

movement the little sluggish slowing and acceleration on foot and mounts --

just things that are actually better than having good gear for 6 weeks if youre first to get all your drops on the first run if not you have a have ass set of gear your required to keep running the same thing every week so everybody else gets drops and then youre still needing, new tier is out and you still didnt even finish the first one you started, oh well throw it out the next quest you do in the new place will make the shit you busted your ass for is now obsolete

I have 5.9k hours in guild wars 2

Baofuru: Idk in feel/mechanics/progression this game is kinda similar to ESO for example. It's not UNIQUE-unique.

disser5262: Its not nearly as hard to get into than wow. If you want to start wow as a gw2 player, be ready to use Chatgpt 20 times a day.

strygwr: Hard to get into??
