Anergyne: I'm a very strong believer in Guild Wars 2's story, and I genuinely do think that the best experience is playing through the story (and thus the expansions) chronologically. It's important to note that Living World isn't a collection of standalone stories. There is a single narrative line that runs from the base game, through LW1 and 2, into HoT, and onwards.

Not only do things like the start of Heart of Thorns make no sense if you've skipped Living World Seasons 1 and 2, there's also something to be said about experiencing the maps with just the tools they were designed for. I just think for example that experiencing the HoT maps for the first time with just

_Koozebane_: I started this summer and I still can't get over how populated all the regions are. I'm a story guy, so I'm doing the living world seasons in order as I go. No regrets at all. Some of the Season Two boss/stealth mechanics required video tutelage to figure out, but knowing the full story before starting (epic!) Heart of Thorns is worth the extra effort. Love the game. DarkKnightofAnime: When I jumped into the game a couple years ago I bought what I would effectively call the trilogy pack ( HoT, PoF, EoD) so my recommendation is either that or the duology expansion pack of HoT and PoF

travisrambo9332: Can confirm the old expansions still have lots of people playing them. I just start HoT and PoF and have had people joining up with me and running around clearing stuff every time I venture out. I came to this game from New World and despite having tried it in the past and not really understanding it, I change some controls around and have been having a blast.

1. HoT PoF (content, mounts, gliding, 2 elite specs for each profession)

2. EoD (Skiff, Jade bot, one elite spec for each profession, Seige turtle mount)

3. VoE (Skimmer mastery which can take skyskale's place until you get it, 4th elite specs for each profession)

4. Janthir wilds (Wizards vault, spear mastery, warclaw masteries, homesteading)

5. SotO (weapon masteries, alternative easy way to obtain skyskale compared to lws4, rifts)

This is my personal observation though.

martynkal.1248: If you're new, deciding which expansions to buy is a tricky thing. My partner & I joined during Steam release & we were big on doing everything in story order, which really suited us for a while. However when Janthir Wilds was released I decided to skip ahead -- and was so glad that I did, because it was so fun to experience to the new expansion with others, with super active map chat & funny shenanigans and everyone working together to progress in the quests
