What Are The Guild Wars 2 Dev Thinking?!

ForceG27: Blue has spent more time saying he'll play GW2 than playing GW2

frustratedsquirrel: for a "dead game" I sure have no trouble finding large groups of people doing open world content in pretty much every map in the game, at any time anything important is going on.

Also if you don't care about lore, maybe MMO isn't the genre for you.

lhelloitsliv: WvW (mass pvp battleground) still full with a queue on prime time, your gear and build matters over there. I do it pretty much everyday since I quit TnL and I have lots of fun. There's a new pvp mode coming soon (püsh) and also the 5v5 pvp conquest (you can join it even being lvl 2 and lvl to 80 and gear your character just by doing this pvp mode). I love that we can make many different builds on each class.

To clarify about expansions, Living World 1-4 and icebrood saga are small expansions, with lots of content. The last patch from the current expansion, janthir wilds, was just released couple weeks ago. We are getting more info about Gw2 new expansion in a few days.

The skyscale mount (dragon) it's a long achievement you have to complete and you need Living World Season 4 or Secrets of the obscure expansions.

Gw2 isn't full like it was 3 years ago, but still has lots of people playing it everyday, there's people doing content everywhere. I don't think Gw2 is a perfect mmo, but right now, there's no other MMO catching my attention.

tayalt2406: GW2 Players: NO BRO I DONT TRUST ANET.

Also Gw2 players: BRO BEEN PLAYING GW2 FOR 10 YEARS 20H PER DAY I LOVE THIS GAME BROO

nd6886: Haven't trusted Anet since 2017.

bird9188: Noone actually trusts gw2 devs. There has been numerous dramas around gw2 devs, one of the biggest one being a class balance person who knew they were making horrible changes and laughed about it in their private discord.

GW2 constantly abandons content whenever they feel like it. You can't trust them at all if you actually played the game

sui2490: i dont think u understand that listening to the players isnt often good and doesnt often translate into better experience for the game population

Pughhead: No, no we do not trust the GW2 devs (especially when it comes to PvP)

GoriborthGaming: Gw2 pve is so well done it made me care about pve after playing almoust only pvp in wow(back in 2006-2012).

bullsx2: I'd say GW2 players are on hopium rather than copium, whilst Anet isn't the best and often(very often) makes mistakes, the overall quality remains high and even if one bad update releases, you can always go back and play the stuff that is good. That and many comapare them to the rest of the MMO industry where things are MUCH worse and as such are just happy that GW2 hasn't completely fallen apart. Or in other words, the good things outnumber the bad.

MrVorech: Why does anyone here who hasnt even played through most of the content of Gw2 (which takes like thousands of hours if u dont rush it) even care about new releases lol... the game is made to be played from start to finish just play and try everything u can not just some story, new maps and leave lol

tomtomtomrick: I like how simple GW2 is.

PVE - needs you to work on gear, mounts, multiple traits build possibilities, achievements, etc. Very fun, very entertaining, and it makes you focus on the game unlike other tab target mmos. Take note I played this game for years and I had 200 ping the whole time because there"s no dedicted SEA server. But I still enjoyed the game despite that and continued playing.

(I hop around BDO and GW2 depends on what I want to play)

PVP - Has balanced gear mode so it's purely skills and of course meta classes/specs. If you die here, you can't just say "oh he overgeared me" and get away. There are also sweaty pvp players for those who really want to fight, and your pvp prowess will be really tested here. You can't rely on your gear overpowering anyone, you really need to know how other classes and your own class work so you can potentially outplay your opponents.

There's also an "uncapped" World vs World where massive amount of players group up with a commander and they stratigically conquer the map. There are also stray players called "Roamers" who specialize in playing alone or with small groups. They still contribute with the whole map conquering objective by capturing nodes in the map and killing players who try to roam like them, or players who try to get back to their commanders.

Overall for me, it's a very fun game both in PVE and PVP. I just hope I don't have to keep playing in 200 ping with VPN. It's not for everyone, but I really recommend it to other gamers.

Rokoi518: Yearly expansions are a bad idea. Just feels like a lazy way to say “buy our patch”

uhhhpvp4691: gw2 Has been around for 13 years with a very strong population the whole 13 years.. Id say people trust the Guild wars devs. If you wants the best pvp ever go Play Eden: The Dark age of Camelot. Daoc is the goat of all pvp and every game that has keep taking or 3 factions try to steal from Daoc but they always ruin it.

malygos9301: It’s pretty safe to assume the game is in somewhat of an expansion maintenance mode until the 3rd game comes out. You can buy most of them for half off on steam in no time so no reason to really rush playing anyway, with it being a horizontal game it doesn’t really matter.

TheGreenDeath8914: The big problem of Gw2 is that is lacks endgame content, almost everything we have is just there and will always be played because it's horizontal progression, 10 year old content is still being played a ton. This is a good thing, but there is not a lot of new stuff releasing, the last two expansions (of the "mini" model) had 2 and 3 bosses each. Veteran players will always fall back on the good older content which feels weird. It's nice that we can still play and enjoy old stuff, but cool new things would be even better, right?

Not sure if all of it is to blame on the new release schedule model (mini expacs) because the full content droughts before also felt pretty bad to be honest. Both have their upsides and downsides.

At one point in the video you mention that their goal with quarterly updates is to maintain players instead of having huge spikes on huge infrequent releases. That would be nice, yes, but it's just not the case, not enough content releases, people login ~4 times a year to play the content patch for a few days but new story, maps, bosses, etc. is finished quite quickly so it doesn't hold players for very long. Players who do login every day for weeks at a time without content releases are playing older content in 99% of cases.

slickblueskin5852: First time seeing this guy was suggested by algorithm. Yells too much for me. Not as irritating as MightyShitpot though.

ramstab: Havent played GW2 so far, I am afraid to start due to having to pour money into mtx or to progress. I am willing to pay for the xpansions but not anything else, just like ffxiv

IcyBenjis: I bought 3/5 expansions thus far. It’s pretty nice. The community is pretty helpful too. The only thing I want is the dragon though. It just takes a while to unlock.

OneVsX: If you’ve never done a raid you’re not an mmo player.

Vala-k3l: No, we do not trust. After hot/pof - gw2 ended, just like wow ended After tbc/wotlk

xblunk: Guild wars was since beginning a joke for hard core pvp player - you literally are done at lvl 1 inasmuch as you get all the gear you need for pvp for free.

WR-sc7io: People subscribe to clowns nowadays?

fatmanpez: Been playing for 10 years and I'm a PvE player above all else, but even if you aren't into PvE you should complete the story because it will help you unlock maps and get an understanding for mechanics, in the Living World and Expansions it will help you get Masteries which lead to Mounts and Quality of Life stuff. If you care about WvW it will help you get Hero Points for your Elite Specs as you go through the maps along the way, there's Hero Point Trains to do it fast but you will at least need a Waypoint to whichever map the Train is on. If you want Legendaries you will need Gift of Exploration which requires 100% Completion to of all the Core Maps ( you'll get two of them per World Completion) and playing the story just helps you knock half of that out and at least get a Waypoint to the maps you still need. Lastly you'll get 3 Black Lion keys for completing the main story at least up to the Level 60 part though just know each of those Keys can only be obtained once per week because people use to make a character, get the first Key, delete and repeat to farm keys, you can get all three in the same day but you have to wait a week for each key before you can get the same key again in the story. Just saves you a few bucks and you could roll a Skin or Infinite Gathering tool or something.

ch.k.3377: Personally, I'd even give the developers an 18-month expansion cycle. The main thing is that the developers create something useful that's fun in the long run.

andriivahnovskiy2820: Shortly,

previously I received way more for the money I've spent. Right now, even though I want the GW2 to succeed, it feels like the devs are trying hard with the minimum budget to get as much as they can from our pockets.

Previously I got like few maps, elite spec with the new weapon for every single class, raid bosses, new fractals, complete new systems, sometimes good sometimes bad, but epic and refreshing, now is like 1-3 maps, okeish, one new weapon for the classes, maybe 1-2 strike missions but later on in a few months.
