The Strange Mystery of Guild Wars 2s Most Powerful Class

krutzotrem: Day 1 player here. I’ve tried to like Mesmer for so long and have deleted more than five level-80 Mesmers. Although I like it logically and mechanically, I hate the dominance of purple in its aesthetic. Every skill icon, animation, and almost everything about the profession is purple.

Each class has its own colors, sure, but only Mesmer and Guardian push their dominant colors this hard. Guardian’s blue fits its flames, and blue is a primary color, so I think it works. With Mesmer, though, the aesthetic feels artificially forced. Some of the skills did not have to be purple, but were made that way due to an arbitrary choice.

I just wish it were a glassy, transparent color with some purple sprinkled here and there. But alas.

TacetCat: Mesmer main since day 1. It feels like they get nerfed every single patch, but somehow they're still on top (especially chrono).

makimera: yup i first really never enjoyed mesmer, then i got a chronomancer and it was really fun, and having acess to portal means i can also help people with jumping puzzles.

But i still dont really know what im doing half the time, but so many boons :D

manuelmusetti5026: It's just too purple. I tried it many times in many ways because i like the idea a lot of the class and also because i wanted to play heal chrono. I couldn't...after some time all that purple start to actually hurt my eyes. I stopped trying even.

Btw, i don't 'hate' purple color in the slightest...maybe it can be fixed with some graphic settings but i'm fine with the settings for all the rest and i don't want to change how the game looks every time i want to play mesmer. Also, not many players would go to these lenghts just to try and make a class playable

dnangel606: Bladesworn for life been waiting for a rework

flickybicky9397: i'm 200 hours into the game now and apart from like 10 hours on reaper when i want to turn my brain of i have only played mesmer and also started with it, when playing trough the game i think a big struggle was how punishing clones felt when killing mobs and not fighting bosses, they were just always gone and i could never build up for a big shatter it kind of made the whole thing feel really annoying until i hit lvl 80 and grabbed my hero points for virtouso which elevated my experience tremendously, from then i picked up chronomancer and practiced that a bit tho still need the heal build and now picked up troubadour with a qheal dps hybrid build with celestial gear i found so i could build it cheap and all the elite specs are fantastic to play really makes me happy i didn't switch during the leveling process

SmokeysDoomerSessions: I love my trailblaizer Mesmer (mirage) roamer man no matter what is the meta

colemcmullen3904: Speaking for myself, there's just too much pink and purple. Also, main-hand dagger sounds like a duck to me.

nonamenoshame7484: If its purple I will main it

eb9782: As someone who recently tried all of the mesmer specs to get into mesmer (and finally it clicked and I love it): recommend condi troubador for open world. It is nowhere near as hard to play as people say - it is hard to MASTER, but easy to play successfully. Super tanky, crazy boons, and for open world content you/I can usually get away with your/my shitty rotations that involve button mashing because the instruments are incredibly strong.

sansintierra: Troubadour made it too easy to be efficient and spamming almost every boon and heals while doing decent dps. For me, that got old very fast and switched to professions with more fun gameplay (again, fun to me). Love the mesmer style and flexibility, though.

DezzieYT: Perhaps I haven't played the right build, but I've found Mesmer lacking in Open World compared to Necromancer which is where I spend most of my time. Plus I think the class fantasy isn't reflected in the game's NPCs. What do I mean? The first Mesmer we meet is Anise. She is a true illusionist able to do things like alter other character's appearances, a skill PC Mesmer's lack and will never gain. The game itself doesn't accurately portray the playable class which is a mage with clones you can blow up.

EscapadeFTW: I would main mesmer if it weren't for clone behavior. Losing clones when things die feels awful against most of the content in the game. Virt is fun but too squishy, and troub is similar. But I actually prefer mirage and chrono, they just feel bad so often.

Naviblood1988: I think another thing (for me personally) with Mesmer is well... a couple things. The clone system isn't exactly hard but I found there are a lot of cases where I'm looking down to manage my bar. I tend to prefer classes I can easily get into flow of KNOWING what's what and both pay attention and enjoy what's going on in a fight, mechanics and such. Then when you get into Elite specs like Troubadour, the note system demands you make sure you play this, supplement notes with that etc etc. In reality, I can go with, say a Paragon and obliterate with half the effort while not diverting my attention from the screen to STARE at my ability bar. As for the weapons, I'm an addict for theme and adore the Sword/Sword fantasy of Mesmer, being a illusionary duelist. Spear never clicked, in fact I openly despise that weapon and Dagger never seems to scratch the itch.

josephcaskey4811: Really? It is my main

tennooperator8182: Necromancer > Mesmer

jaymudie6761: Condi Axe Troubadour chef's kiss

Saimeren: 2:43 Mesmer = Loki Green Lantern

vesperialex: My friend hates playing mesmer but he brings it just for the versatility of the class, it just has it all

roxxie552: Lately I've been debating whether to main the Mesmer or not. Ever since I started playing, I've loved its theme and the design of its abilities, but I'm not someone who plays just one class because I'd get bored, so I usually main at least two. Even so, the Mesmer has always been a class that really caught my attention, especially Mirage. Mesmer was the first class I leveled to 80 and I really don't regret it.

lucifersquarter: yeah i’m one of those ppl who constantly switches classes bcuz i can’t decide on one to main, so i told myself “ok i’ll just select the most versatile classes in the game, and ONLY play those, because if i’m gonna master any class, it should be the ones with the most versatility”. So i did some research and found out mesmer and guard are the most versatile, so now i’m only playing those, and plan to master them :D

JEverclear: I definitely agree that knowing the fantasy of other classes from other places plays a role.

For me, it almost got me to make one. Of the classes that I knew from other places, necromancer was the clear winner and it wasn’t even close. Mesmer was the other option because it sounded so new and unique. I went with familiarity initially and never made a Mesmer because it kept getting targeted nerfs

phillipsmith3038: See I started as a ranger and then gave mesmer a try and once I got my mirage elite never looked back. Been my main for a while now. So much fun in any mode and I'm now looking to expand by trying Chronomancer.

Lord_Einhorn: Mirage doge so often brings so much agis if you geht hit by a mechanik the boss had a lucky hit

RedMulligan: Class fantasy. There's a lot of bursting into purple butterflies - which is cool, but it really depends on the class fantast you're going after.

willdeit6057: I bet it's nothing to do with all the Nerfs its had from Anet. Played one since GW2 came out.

zahzahuzzah2733: I introduced myself to my current raid group as a Mesmer main, and I think I’m banned from playing other classes…Mesmer just have the kit to answer almost anything if you’re good enough.

That mindset also comes when I’m trying out other classes as well. The thing I always had in mind when trying other classes are “but i cannot do this with this class”. I end up settling on learning warrior now just because I at least can convince myself its a unga bunga build I’m playing LOL
