Shopping Cartelocfreidon: This game has progression. Just not toxic vertical progression.
Xynth22: The game being too easy complaint has always been funny to me. Not just in Guild Wars 2, but in any MMO. You can't find an MMO where the leveling content or the open world content is hard. Even in old MMOs it wasn't hard. At worst, it was just tedious and grindy.
boxonothing4087: Based on Steam charts no one plays WoW
I'm still baffled FF14 is hailed as a story masterpiece.
It is, by all accounts, a mountain of over-melodramatic cringe
Tube4life679: As a 18 year WoW veteran who just recently came back to GW2, the horizontal progression is something I LOVE. It's why I liked the Legion expansion so much, not having to worry about replacing your weapon all expansion felt SO GOOD.
2nd_Directorate: Just as a reminder, you can hit the cog symbol on the Wizards Vault tab and uncheck the modes you do not want to have dailes or weeklies in. Doing all mixed is rarely effective.
clickbait_0190: This game teached me to love horizontal progression. I feel zero pressure to play GW, so I take my time with other games as well. That's pure luxury.
johnsellers5169: There are gonna be a lot if comments on how to play gw2 and many will be contradictory to eachother. That is what makes this game so good. You can play how you want when you want and for whatever goal you have. People always ask what do you have to do at endgame, whatever you feel like doing. Imagine playing a game because its fun doing the actual thing you chose to do.
VitAbductor: For those who say the game is dead.
I walk around in GW2, any map, any time of the day, any specific zone, it takes me about 1-2 minutes and I will see another player walking around that zone doing his own stuff, it feels like a true MMO. Play any other MMO, you will barely see any activity, it can take hours, no mater the place you choose in the world.
For the record, everyone I ever played with or I know, plays the game through the official launcher. Most gw2 players recommend you use the official launcher, that being said even new players will choose the launcher.
JackThor1: I believe that anet hired a new marketing director which is why we are seeing more sponsored streams. I hope there will be more.
LukesLionheart: I think you are right about the story lines. The base game story line is mediocre at best. After that the stories are amazing and the way they are presented is really cool. I really think GW2 is the best at story telling. In my opinion, no game does story telling as well as GW2 does.
CaptainAdmiralMango: The "Game is dead" sentiment is something that has been haunting the game since time immemorial, there was very little in the way of end game content to do back in the day and conversely people felt like there was nothing to do and that people weren't sticking around (i.e the game was dying/ dead).
While that was the start of it, there has been very little effort in trying to change that preconceived notion over all these years. Heck, the only reason I ever started playing this game was because a real life freind of me introduced me to it, outside of that I'd never heard so much as a mention of the game.
It's just been silently marinating in its own far corner of the internet to fade from the greater public's conciousness, so the steam player number is in the grand scheme of things a new angle to discredit the game.

heyafehya: I think the pay 2 win argument comes from a deep competitive toxicity from dps meter snobs, people that made PVE content a competitive gamemode where you win or lose, which is just entirely backwards. as a full map squad doing a meta event I WANT my fellow players to push as hard as they can, why would i get upset that someone did more damage than me when we are all getting the same loot
kmitsu2319: Most of the time, i go achivement hunting because of free gems
fliegenhirsch754: Ohhh my chat message is in a video, wohooo! xD
catactivationsound: The biggest misconception that leads to falloff for some attempters. is the very dangerous mindset of 'wowbrain' and to a lesser extent 'final fantasy brain' Where people who come from the other two 'top' mmos have a very narrowed view of how things are supposed to be and when things aren't that specific way, they get mad, and they get turned off from the game. as an ex wow player I'll be drawing from that and not the other.
The greatest example of this is nearly anyone who has tried elementalist ever.
people see ele and think mage but it's actually shaman
guardian is magic knight not paladin
revenant despite being the dlc class isnt deathknight.
Necromancer via one spec is deathknight, necro is also aff/demo warlock
etc
Would that one or more of you content creators could actually do a new player showcase of the classes and dispel these
fieragames: I keep seeing people say horizontal progression guild wars 2 forces you to focus on your masteries ( Other than the story for HOT, this is simply not true). I am not a pve main, however I have finished stories and my mastery levels on many are either not completed or I completed them years after the fact.
No what horizontal progression actually means for guild wars 2, is if you want to do a side quest ( masteries, fractal level, AP hunting,PVP level, wvw level) you can. However what you really got to focus on is your gameplay (Unless your just content to live in open world forever, since its geared to the more casual playerbase). Since combat isn't just staring at a skillbar & dodging the bad stuff. Especially if you focus on pvp modes your going to find yourself constantly learning how to play better. And with every new elite spec, sometimes you even have to retrain yourself for how your weapon works. For instance sword 3 works different on Troub then it does on chrono
If you feel you mastered combat, your probably wrong. If your not wrong your end game is helping other players to master it.
foobar8610: In my opinion the first few(like 50 or so) hours of GW2 are very interesting and impactful. Then it gets repetitive and boring.
NoggDogYT: Gems are one of the core reasons our in-game economy isn't hyperinflated like WoW's or FF14'S has become. Gems to gold is not a 1-1 transaction. For 1 gold, you get roughly 4-5 gems. For 5-6 gems, you get 1 gold. GW2's Gems are the reason WoW Tokens exist as they do, where the conversion rate drains gold out of the economy.
Unfortunately, WoW also inflates the amount of gold that drops, inherently deflating the value of gold. An endgame quest in Classic rewards the same or even less than the amount of gold as a mob drop in Live.
GW2 just this expansion had something people were able to farm daily that was deflating the value of staple items like ectoplasm, and they patched that to still be rewarding, but to more reasonably impact the economy. GW2 is a game that they want you to be able to jump in and feel you are in the same spot as before, and that includes the gold value of your account in the in-game economy.
JinxyKat-l9g: GW2 is situational. Knowing your rotation, what to bring to a given fight and player skill (also knowing mechanics) are what some players strive to improve on. Some don't care, and that's also okay. There's a flavor for everyone and that is the beauty of this game to me. Also, gear score is so effing LAME
frankthedsigner558: As a vet of GW2, I can attest to the activities and population in the game, especially during starter events, world bosses, and meta events. The primary reason for this is the Legendary achievements system in the endgame. Each time you want to craft a new legendary, for your quest line you’ll be asked to visit specific zones, loot world boss chests, or complete jumping puzzles. This system is fantastic, as it allows you to re-experience the entire world, meet new people, and potentially end up with a new friend and a new legendary! Thank you for making the video and clearing up some of the many misconceptions of the game. Marketing hasn't been ANets strong suit, but they are learning and have been really great with Twitch drops, sponsorships, trailers and updates the past year.
prince.rastislav: Got over 3k hours in the game, and you're right on every point. Like your style subscbed
a0000a1234: Horizontal nice cause you can really try out all the stuff in your class, but it still takes a long time to get perfect build
chocobizoo: One thing about the horizontal progression that I think you're missing because you're fairly new to the game (which is totally fine, obviously :D) is that once you hit ascended gear, you aren't "done". The mastery system isn't really a long term grind either, it's actually relatively simple to get to max mastery. But the true endgame progression is that there are SO many specs and builds, the longer you play the more you will want to try some of them (or all of them if you're that kind of person). So that means gearing up for all those builds, which is a lot of farm... And then suddenly it's like "oh wait I could just farm legendaries and never have to farm gear specifically for each alt again".
And just like that, you start the legendary grind which is super fun and rewarding imo, because it means you actively participate in SO many activities all over the place - achievements, metas, fracs, strikes, raids etc.
And of course on top of that, the other big endgame is... fashion. As you're playing you will run into people with super cool outfits/skins/weapons, making you want to get them too, and then you realize you can convert your gold into gems to buy stuff on the Gem Store... And here goes another long-term endgame grind.
And if at some point get close to having all that, there's a good chance you will start focusing more on helping others because it's fun in this game.
aniimey: Idk if it's just me but my chat is dead most of the time
Tigerlilly5555: Don't forget when it comes to crafting, I think that most if not all crafting professions can craft their own bags up to 20 slot, depending on their crafting lvl. They just need to buy the "Rune of Holding" from NPC near the crafting stations. From memory, Exotic lvl crafting gives the 20 slot bags. Also, you can gain lots of char lvls via crafting and to me, gw2 crafting is awesome, super quick to process mats etc. Every time I've crafted in Lotro, I would grind my teeth with rage how slow it is.
jorgeroman9916: One very common misconception that even veteran players have is that the core story (the Zhaitan arc) is just the instanced story content, the dialogs and cutscenes.
That's not quite true.
The devs tried something very unique with the core game: tell the story not only through the instances and dialogues, but also through the events of each zone and the renown hearts. If you explore Core Tyria following your personal story and going slowly from lev 1 to lev 80 zones, you'll realize that the land gets more and more corrupted by the presence of Zhaitan and other dragons. You will be part of events and renown Hearts that show you how the common people try to survive the corruption and fight back. How the orders of Tyria slowly join forces together until they start conquering Orr. That's was a very original experiment from the devs. You may say they didn't do it great or that it's not that obvious, but it's very original for an MMORPG and from the moment you understand what they did, you start playing these dynamic events differently.
True, the cutscenes, the secondary characters and the dialogues are not great and all of that improves only during LWS1 (and gets better and better afterwards). The Zhaitan final battle is really disapointing, but that's precisely why the dev team decided to change they storytelling and used a more straightforward traditional storytelling technique.
Even then, I still get emotional everytime I replay the core story: Claw Island (I cried for every mentor: Tybalt, Sieran, Forgal); the Apatia little story (I still think they could have made it more tragic, but it's OK); the Tonn and Ceera arc (you can even meet Ceera again at Auric Basin and she's still pissed with you); your missing human sister that you can find during a Vigil instanced mission at Orr; Ferghen the tracker, that you can meet as an ally during the norn personal story and as a foe during your story in Orr; the Demi story that concludes at LWS3... The core story has ripples accross the whole saga and I love that even if it shows its age and most players hate it, that 13 year old narrative still has consequences all over the game.
