During the Development of Soto/ Janthir they finished the upgrade to DX11 and made a post about different graphical updates they could do including skybox, particle effects and sharper textures etc. In that post they mentioned although not currently on top of mind that they would like to use this tech to retroactively update the core zones. People have been complaining about reusing textures a lot over the last few xpacs. I wonder if they are utilizing old textures to slowly over the course of these xpacs upgrade these core textures and to make it simpler to got through and update the core world later while also saving on xpac dev costs by not needing to make as many new textures.
