Guild Wars 3 is Coming... So Should You Play Guild Wars 2?

Tewlipz: This announcement has shown me that more creators I follow have played or do play Guild Wars 2 than I thought

LPeck1985: 2005 GW1 Player here. I didn't get much chance to play GW2, but from what I have played I've really enjoyed it. I'm absolutely hyped for GW3 on the PlayStation.

homeostasis1103: If someone is interested in the opinion of a non sponsored player that started playing 2 months ago here's my take. I'll start with the good part first

I've put 550 hours into the game and I'm really enjoying the game so far.

I'll start with the atmosphere. It's straight up amazing, visual design and especially THE MUSIC. Emerging into this world is real fun.

I've cleared most of the raid/fractals (dungeons) content with some challenge modes. That content is genuinely great and I'd like to see more, even tho that probably is not on the devs horizon. Highly recommend

WvW is great, but I haven't tried arenas as much so I don't really know a lot about pvp in that game, however just like in any pvp game players are mostly crying about balance etc.

METAs (huge pve world events) are imo the best part of the game, they feel extremely epic while you do them for the first time and later it's just nice to gather up with bunch of players and doing the same thing.

Now the bad stuff

Open world is nice and always filled with all types of players, you can easily see max lvl characters running around in low lvl zones doing stuff because it actually benefits them etc

Now the ugly part.

I'll be blunt, if you're looking for the good story this game is just not for you. It goes from terrible writing (core game/soto) to mid (Lws4 which is considered peak of gw2 writing). Dialogues are filled with millennial writing and quirky/sarcastic characters that can't be serious at the supposedly emotional moments. Lore itself is nice and easy to explore outside the main story, but story itself is just not worth it.

Monetisation. I wouldn't say it's as fair as hulken says. It's not P2W in the exact sence but it's pay for convenience. To the extent that the game provides you with very little amount of bag space, fills it with random crap and bs just to sell you extra bank tabs and bag slots for irl money. Tons of basic QoL is locked behind it and it feels bad ngl. Buying extra story that happens in between expansions through in-game store just so the story would become whole feels absolutely terrible.

Prepare to be overwhelmed all the times with literally everything, the game does a terrible job at explaining how it works. The game throws am enormous amounts of useless currencies and items at you without any explanation so you have to look it up on wiki. Make sure to join the guild and ask stuff all.

Not adding a quest log and menus for different stuff and adding it all into achievements made it extremely complicated and confusing. It'll overwhelm you even more.

For the last point I'll just say that if you can't stand LGTV characters in your vide game just don't, there's tons of them.

bobmcfiggin8454: Been playing "Guildwars" since 2006! Looking forward to GW3

AriaSilverrain: I was pre-ordered that game, played at the beginning but something happened I stop to play, and my level or something was mid. After that, everytime I tried to return I failed to find something to play and quit, plus I cannot buy expansions that also affects me. But planning to get GW3...

jonathanwyke596: I still go back to GW1 every now and again, and still love it

almostfaceman: I played GW2 a long time ago. Then they messed up World PvP so I ditched it. Tried to get back into it later, but it was too much to re-learn for my poor old brain. I'll probably check out GW3, there was a lot I liked about GW2.

oooSKYLIGHTooo: Great vid my dude. Dropping a comment for the algo god ;)

dasphoenixable: I miss pistol whip rouge in PvP from the launch days. It was so broken but god was it fun.

wompoo7967: I would play it, but don't waste your money on the last three expansions. Prequel story does excite me at all.

asddap: I heard that GW3 is going to be something like Where Winds Meet, MMO-lite instead of full-blown MMORPG. Is that true?

HoksLogin: I’m stuck between ff14 and GW2 because I enjoy them both but I’m currently soloing

SassyPatches: Man, I don't need more things to play right now.. But who needs a social life anyway?

Aryan-MNV-2000: Hey Mr. Hulthen, care to make another mod showcase video for Cyberpunk 2077?

landonewts2025: I asked this on another video too, but how welcoming is a game like this to a new player going in solo? I’ve never played an MMO before, unsure if I should try.

Eldermap7266: MMO Needs players right so i don't understand why Guild Wars 3 isn't coming out! for the Xbox Series x what with that it doesn't make sense.

Especially when they had GW2 running on a Xbox 360 but didn't release it in the end so they had Console in mind. Great content thanks MrHulthen

Master10k2: 3:20 You talk as if that's a bad thing. Guild Wars 3 using Unreal Engine 5 basically means the game won't have any content like Meta Events or WvW, since the engine isn't known large scale, stutter-free, MMO gameplay.

Barcasaur: no

LordMelite: I loved GW and GW2 I just no longer have the long hours. I do wish they include a controller and comes to Xbox as that’s my favourite gaming platform.

It is the best MMORPG compared to WoW, FF, ESO and many others

gameburn178: GW2 is the most overrated game in history. Somehow no one states the obvious: the game is seriously flat: no progress, no community to speak of, no reason to play. When you eliminate the vertical treadmill you eliminate the universal, very human desire for accomplishment. There is a reason a lot of us never seem to stick with it more than the occasional dabble. Yes, it's visuals are annoying, yes, it's combat feels clumsy, yes. I know this. But it is the peculiar ability to force people to pursue "mounts" as progress that is just so awful. I spent weeks getting more advanced mounts. Uhhh. Glad I don't play anymore. And the silly crafting systems, always behind the leveling loop, always useless. And the inventory problems and the strange items showing up that you can't figure out. Awful game. Sorry, it just is. And the subtle way they get you to buy expansions, hate that too. This is the game that tried hard not to be like WoW and, well, it succeeded. Awful.

bigeststarspark: mmo sucks

dasphoenixable: I miss pistol whip rouge in PvP from the launch days. It was so broken but god was it fun.
