Guild Wars 2 Janthir Wilds Absolution Full Playthrough

TEERACK: People can argue about the quality all you want. The story was bad, it was literally just fighting the same three nobodies over and over in every patch since launch.

ShawnMurphyMusic: WP, you should do a "Fall of Bava Nisos" lore video where you bring in all the information we've gotten throughout the expansion and combine it into a timeline with all the character stories. There’d be a lot of value in that since the story is so broken up that I think most of us have missed parts or it or the character beats have gotten fuzzy over the year.

Aereton: "Macrophages are specialized white blood cells that play a crucial role in the innate immune system. They are phagocytic cells, meaning they engulf and digest foreign materials, cellular debris, and pathogens. Macrophages are also involved in initiating the immune response by presenting antigens to other immune cells like T-cells."

I like the medical theme on the map

Everythingzof: This lore is way too dense for your average Joe Shmoe to piece it all together and fully grasp what the hell is going on.

xuzhang9580: The music that played during the final phase of the meta is the theme of the titan Saevus Saxum, it's called Rage and Regret. Some may recall that during SotO there was a scene where Mabon showed signs of being possessed, and in the scene the background music was basically Mabon's theme, it's called Courage and Regret. The similarity in naming here is intentional if you consider later reveals, and it's interesting to note it here just as trivia.

xuzhang9580: My interpretation of the correspondence between Isgarren and Mabon is this: It wasn't a recent event that infuriated Dagda, it was something Isgarren said, which is why Mabon said "I suggest removing axes from the vicinity the next time you broach a contentious topic." I think these three had a conversation about how to deal with Nightfall, Isgarren ordered them to stay clear of the matter (and probably said something contentious during the discussion/debate), which made Dagda angry and in her anger she destoryed the astrolabe.

Why Dagda would be furious specifically about not intervening with Nightfall, I'm not sure, she was probably just frustrated at Isgarren not intervening with any Tyrian matter. Mabon said "you can hardly blame her for reacting as she did, her passion is understandable—her friends have died. She feels abandoned" and "we each deal with grief in our own way", to me it sounds like the deaths of Vass&Akeem and the departure of Waiting Sorrow were still affecting her, which made her want to act instead of waiting around and doing nothing (it's her way of dealing with grief). So when Isgarren said "no we're not intervening with Nightfall", she just snapped.

Sammybree: WP, there is interesting dialog with a “person” at the end of the JP, thought it was cool to hear.

Edit: since you’ve already met him as I watched this, it’s Anthos

ch.k.3377: Dragon's Stand was incredible... they could have gotten more out of Bava Nisos, but it is what it is. Unfortunately, this is the second map meta that I'll probably only play during another "return" week. Still, I'm happy with JW because the expansion gave me something I can use beyond the expansion with the spear, warclaw, homestead, and advanced masteries. JW 7/10

EagorOfCarim: "I do not believe Abaddon to be an eternal god. There were other gods before him, before he was imprisoned here. And I believe that while the power he uses cannot be destroyed, he may be supplanted, as he supplanted his predecessor." -the Apostate in Nightfall

"A great force once threatened Xotecha, slowly extinguishing the light of the Old Gods, but was quelled by the rising power of their successors." -from the anniversary artbook bit about Utopia's setting

and Utopia was also intended to feature Dwayna's father as a character. So there's definitely been mentions of the human gods acquiring or earning their power before and of their predecessors. Grenth usurping Dhuum's position is another example, though of course Dhuum wasn't destroyed in the process.

ReblCrew: I am curious to see how this conclusion hits you. For me it was good, it got me back into the story for the first time in a bit. I feel like these first two mini-expacs Anet really wanted to push the limits of their workflow and see how close to the xpac experience they can get to. Peeking behind the curtain a bit at Anet, it would not surprise me if they wanted the first couple of these mini-expacs to take place in a completely new area so that they could truly experiment with how to tell stories and run things on a long term basis using this model. I feel like these mini-expacs will start to visit more and more familiar areas to follow up on our initial actions and if we are lucky deal with the fallout of those actions as well. Some of those responses in that final instance really seemed like it was begging for us to ask ourselves "oh yeah, I forget they were still working through that"

This patch felt like the lead up to and including the penultimate episode is where most of the meat was, where this patch was the cool down from everything as we start to focus locally again. At least those are the breadcrumbs that I feel like I am picking up....

TEERACK: my hard drive also died recently. We're so close were like roommates <3

xuzhang9580: That first conversation in Forced Entry intance is the first indicator to me that something's wrong with the storytelling of this patch. To quote the line from Isgarren: "The moment the word titan was uttered, she burst into our council, jumping at any excuse to use the scepter", which 1.suggests that Livia is a hothead and 2.the tone of it suggests that Isgarren disagrees with her. Both of which has some issues.

Whether it's out of character for Livia to steal the scepter is debatable, personally I think it's a bit weird as WP said. She doesn't have a invested interest in the whole titan thing, she's never been really about the flameseeker prophecy, she's more "I'm devoted to Kryta so I want to kill all mursaats". It could be that Janthir is close enough to Kryta so she's interested, but that's too weak of a reason for such an impulsive action.

And then Isgarren acted as if he didn't agree with Livia, but when Livia "burst into the council" during the second LA instance and proposed using the scepter, he immediately sided with her! I get that Isgarren was displeased at Livia stealing the scepter, but being the pragmatic person he is, it shouldn't stop him from agreeing with her again. In comparison, Ludo who voted "Yea" in the second LA instance at least remembered her decision and stuck with it in this patch. To me, having Isgarren said that line just feels so weird.

dantepeterson556: Hey WP! Just want to let you know that I appreciate you reading through the story journal and all the lorebooks. Gives so much life to the game I sometimes for get to look at!

stevenmcg1986: I have read every lore book for each release and I could never tell you what any of them had said until I listen to wooden potatoes read them and discuss them and then I definitely remember from there. I'm so glad and thankful you know so much about the lore and can analysis and break each little aspect down in such detail. Thanks

Nekknak: lol “bengt toversson” almost sounds like the name Ben Dover

kingdane17: This game needs to come to console!

Druak1: The patch starting with Livia charging in with the scepter felt out of no where for me. I think what would have been good for this patch is the “weekly story update” they used to do like the Bangar conversations.

If a few weeks before the patch we got reports from the tyria alliance about the locked door and different things they have tried to open the city would have helped make the beginning of the story feel less jarring.

xuzhang9580: Livia at the end of the meta saying "there are times I still see a little girl [Anise], playing pranks in the royal halls with Princess Jennah" really obliterated the those speculations like "maybe Anise's really old" or "maybe she's a djinn in disguise" or anything along those lines. I know there're not really serious speculations to begin with, but it's fun to note it nontheless. Also in the same conversation Livia just casually revealed that Anise is a descendant of Evennia, do we know Evennia having any sons or daughters in Gw1?

TEERACK: Mabon seemed to like gardens to with his connection to the sylvari

aegis2393: In-game music and sound effects were very loud :(

Thanks for the playthrough though, I enjoyed it regardless!

Lysethea: Rift is word describing lot of different things, not one specific type of thing. We had rifts from start of game.

bojan6609: I remember that players were confused on expansion launch, when we saw greer and decima were able to speak, soon after someone found that one titan in gw1 did manage to say or somewhat comunicate with a little text. This Titan being as old if not older then that one could be why he didnt speak? Greer decima and ura are younger so maybe ,,new generation,, is advanced or something?

CryHeroCZ: MY criticism of new map is that they are in middle between cool mursaat gilded or ruined city and nightmarish fleshy tunnels like in realm of torment. I would love it to be separate at least like half city half titan ... i dont really like this mix.

And for those trees outside city which looks like titan stuff .. i guess that is just mistburn just like on wildlife. Titan is only in city itself.

PS: Yea gods could totally get their power elsewhere! De-powered balthazar just absorbed bloodstone magic so they are like magic batteries. I am not sure how Kormir absorbed magic while she was just petty human but whatever.
