Sasdagu: As an old World of Warcraft veteran, I can only recommend Guild Wars 2 to you. I always come back to it when, in my opinion, there's nothing left to do in World of Warcraft at the moment. And it implements so many things incredibly well. For example, the combat system: dodging, combo fields, auras, and so on. You really get to know all of that, especially in PvP.

Then, as you mentioned, the classes! For example, you can play an Elementalist (comparable to a Mage in WoW) like a Shaman in WoW with a 2-handed hammer. But you can also play it classically with a staff or scepter as a ranged DPS.

Another big plus is the community. In WoW, you'll search in vain for that kind of helpfulness.

GW2 is a fantastic game. Enjoy it!

99% of the player base uses ArenaNets game launcher and not steam. GW2 only went to steam 2 years ago. So if peeps are worried about population, steam is 100% incorrect.

R00m1o6C: From my own experience: I played Shadow in WoW for 15 years and moved to GW2 during Shadowlands, after which I left WoW behind. What I took with me from WoW was my love for the Shadow DoT playstyle, which is why I mostly play condition specs in GW2.

My advice: If you enjoy GW2, take your time, try out all classes and specializations, and see which playstyle suits you best. One of GW2’s big advantages is that almost everything is account-wide, so there are no downsides to frequently switching classes

rulotron: Couldnt agree more with your recomendation at the end, don't feel like you are forced to purchase anything in the game, play the free version, especially learn the combat, it is the single best thing the game has to offer, watch some videos on the basics, understand what your abilities do and then if you feel like you are enjoying the game buy the expacs and the living world seasons.

Skarghan: GW2 is pretty cool, until you reach endgame. For me it felt empty. But I like and played GW1 and GW2 a lot. I just need a competitive edge.

BrandonPyatte: Guild Wars 2 is very much a build your own class/playstyle mmo. Which I think is so unique and amazing and I love it. If I wanna be a condition based necromancer with a staff that puts diseases on people i can. If I just want my base attacks to do huge burst and crit instead I can do that. There are so many ways to play each of the classes that makes it so fun. I personally was able to create a ranged caster that can support team with shields and CC as well as heal them while doing extremely high condition dmg still.

jarlskjoldur: There has been some power creep over the years but not even remotely close to what is common in games like WoW in which equipment is outdated with each new expansion or even season and consequently creates an item / power hamster wheel.

My biggest wish for GW2 would be that Anet finally starts revisiting old content, especially when it comes to bugs.

In a game that's designed to keep old content relevant, it's a weird decision to not touch / fix old content or align it with more recent systemic changes.
