Shopping CartSteveMND: You picked a good time to join; with the most recent expansion that came out a week or two ago, each of the nine base classes got a brand-new fourth specialization class for even more variety!
sidian4257: I try to play different classes but i always fall back to my Mesmer. It has such a unique look and feel compared to classes from other MMOs and the visual and sound effects of your clones shattering is just... chef's kiss.
Lazarus_ReSpawn: The classes in GW2 are not restricted to the theme - ANY class can be a tank, healer or 2 types of dps. A Warrior can use Banners and Shouts to be a support. This is what most people do not immediately understand, there is a massive variety allowing hybrid combinations that transcend the core class. Videos like these do not do it a favor, it needs to be pointed out more.
Elite specializations further accent the combat roles by transforming the core class skills function more closely toward one of those 4 (tank/heal/dps/DoT). Or any hybrid in between these that you can make work.
In a sense, it's like a more complex version of MOBA builds in League, you use gear stat and focus on different abilities to change into a different playstyle.
Shrek_The_Mathematician: I mained Death Knight and Demon Hunter in WoW... In Gw2 I main Necromancer and Revenant... works well really well for me !
elosy_one: you should put the original video in the description, i wanted to go and like it
FlowerBot: bear in mind each of the 9 professions now has a 4th possible Elite to choose from which is not mentioned in this video, coming out of the latest expansion, Visions of Eternity.
blonkov: Overall, Necromancer is recommended for beginners. Wide range of weapons used enhanced by elite specializations, largest HP pool, life drain, removal/transfer/conversion of boons/conditions. AoE curses etc etc. I loved the necromancer and the warrior in GW (half of the time played W/N) and I love them in GW2
lucasferes3519: And it's all true. I actually have all 9 professions because i play a lot of pvp so i had to learn them and i guarantee there is no weak/boring one. They're all fun and unique to play
sollnoll9271: Welcome to Tyria!!
JoshuaStamford: Started playing a little less than 2 years ago I currently play all the classes and have most of the legendries, but when newer people ask me what they should try out, I ask what their goals are and we go from there. If they just want to get through the game with little to no effort, I recommend the Necro or Ranger. Both offer pets which can make the leveling experience more fun, and both currently have great new elite specs that are very strong. When you start this game it's important to learn how the combat system works and it's much harder to understand the flow with other more vulnerable classes/professions.
Niaisbae: I love your enthusiasm! Its so addicting :D reliving my experience with that
joshanonline: Elementalist is actually 'Hell Difficulty'
natel7151: Since there's no Holy Trinity in GW2, don't worry about Sword/Shield unless YOU want to rep the Sword & Shield (like a more support-style Guardian). It's a lot more about positioning than the Trinity, so don't worry about tanking. Like, a Necro can tank, or your Warrior could run a heal/buff spec.
Don't think about Tank/DPS/Heal... that's the main thing. Everyone can do everything to an extent, and it's more about finding the fun for you unless your group is 100% about the meta.
Heck, Necromancer is an easy recommend for anyone, as is Ranger.
Engineer and Elementalist are probably the ones to avoid at first because they require a lot of skill/ability juggling, especially the Elementalist. The Revenant's skillbar swapping also requires skill.
dragonriderabens9761: Perhaps try linking the videos you react to
Give the OG creator some traffic and don’t be a dick
Original video is “Every Core class in GW2 explained in 90 seconds” by Caffeinated Dad Gaming.
I’d link it, but YT has a habit of deleting those comments
KareiTV: Welcome (back?!) to Tyria. Necro main since launch. Primarily Harbinger but with VoE launch Ritualist. Also Virtuoso, Willbender, Mechanist/Scrapper and Soulbeast with Galeshot coming along nicely. Took a huuuge break myself when HoT released. Came back with EoD launch. Not stopped since
invaderzam: Guild Wars 2 has my favorite expansion model for an MMO. Every expansion just gives you more options on how to play your profession, it doesnt render the previous expansion's content irrelevant. For example, I love the clone mechanics of the Mesmer so I love playing as the Mirage Specialization. The newest specialization for Mesmer, Virtuoso and Troubadour, replaces the clone mechanic with something else. Those playstyles dont vibe with me but I can still play the newest expansion as a Mirage and still have a grand old time.
Also, multiple classes can go sword and shield and they all have a different playstyle while using said sword and shield. Have fun exploring!
Mictla155: Hero points are granted when you level up until 80. There are also challenges around each zone where in the base game you get one point, and the expansion maps give you 10. Each class has 4 elite specializations at this point if you have picked up the whole dragon saga aka the base game through end of dragons and the most recent expac.
ChiVa_Yas: Hello and welcome to Tyria. I`m playing this game since 2013. I did start with Guardian but not long after Ive started with Necromancer and didnt changed since then. I went through all elite specs and now I`m Ritualist with the new Expansian. But of course Ive tried other classes too. Ranger is very very fun already because of the pets. Mesmer is great if you want to help allies or other players overcome Jumping Puzzles as sample because of their teleport skills. Warriors are the best for world bosses because of their banners and support for the crowd. Thief of course like you mentioned is great if you want to play this little sneaky rat in the open world. At the end, it depends on if you want to play solo, in group, if you want to support allies or just give a f... and support only yourself. I think this is why GW2 is unique, because you can choose what you want and you are ready to go and completly fine without missing any fun.
johnsellers5169: Dagger warhorn Tempest (ele) can be one of the tankiest classes you can be. almost literally unkillable in PvE
AndrewW2733: Wait till you see the mounts!
vecordia1176: First of all, welcome to Tyria :-) Throughout my 12 hundred hours, I have played all professions. I started with an elementalist, but my most hours are on Necromancer (my two mains are Reapers right now) and Guardian. My mesmer, while also great in PvE, is mostly used for jumping puzzels. In general, I love every class with an greatsword (especially Reaper and Mesmer) as the use of them is really divers
isaiascandido8497: Time to farm some GW2 content until Midnight. Its just a content creator cycle.
woodstockman6972: How is it not comparable to anything in wow lol wow literally has a engineering skill/job
Lazarus_ReSpawn: One major advice: do NOT boost or rush to level 80. It will overwhelm you. The point of horizontal progression is in mastering/learning the class and then improving it by unlocking options for it. I have not seen a SINGLE new player that can learn to play this game in less than 3 months.
shakeweller: The Engineer is NOT as complicated as portrayed in many beginner videos. Think of it more like instead of picking a 2nd set of weapon to use in your equipment menu, you pick it on your skillbar directly and swap to that by clicking that exact button. Engineer is also extremly tanky and very nice to play in the open world.
Zandock: Way to not even link the original video.
sospokemika1197: Aesthetics can be deceiving in Guild wars 2.
Revenant is more like a mix of Ench Shaman, Death Knight and Monk.
Reaper is straight up Unholy DK
Elementalist is not a mage imo, but elemental, resto and ench shaman (depending on a build)
Mesmer is a proper DPS mage, especially Virtuoso.
Engineer is a tricky one. Ench shaman is Scrapper, Machinist is Survival Hunter or Demo warlock. Don't know equivalent of holosmith..
...and so on.
