Every Human God Explained in 20 Minutes Guild Wars 2 Lore

alextygesen3101: This is why I am looking forward to GW3. They probably have the entire story and origin of the gods cooked up by now and are ready to show it to us. May Dwayna bless the storywriters.

chaceaaron: Well actually, Lyssa wasn’t originally the goddess of water. Abaddon was. But Lyssa took on that additional role after Abaddon’s demise.

williamgeorge2580: 5:10 Are we entertaining the Jennah/Anise fan theory?

wintertrooper7918: What's interesting is that the gods have other connections in the mists as well, as balthazar has his "evil" twin brother

Anonymous121212: Lore dives like these make me appreciate seeing names like "Seven Reapers Armor" and "Khilbron's Gauntlets."

Also so funny how the Sylvari think the gods are just royalty

luckyboy7294: Good vid, I'd just like to point out a few incoherences:

-Kormir is the biggest b*tch out there as she: 1. made the Nightfall events undergo by desacralizing a lost sacred ruin (fahranur), 2. canonically did NOTHING during said events as she stated she wasn't able to fight since she got blinded AND 3. got the blessing by the gods in the Realm of Torment because... well we're still looking for a reason today ngl

-Abaddon used to be the god of water and had "large blue wings that spreaded accross the oceans" and the god of secrets. He used to be the keeper of all the forbidden relics the other gods didn't want to bother with in his reliquary. He lost his title about water only for lyssa to gain it when he was imprisonned. He also actually was the mightiest god out there as he canonically fought over the other 5

-The fall of Abaddon occured because humans turned to Abaddon too much as he was the only one to grant them what they wanted, aka magic, and listen to them when the others weren't. I've read somewhere that other gods were pissed about it (need to be confirmed pls), hence the war that followed after

-There actually were gods before, and it has been confirmed multiple times. The most notable one is the arachnid remains you come by in GW Nightfall in the Realm of Torment

DemonOfMyMind: Something to note. Lyssa only got the domain of water after the Ascension of Kormir. Abaddon was the god of water and his Margonites used to be a sea fairing people. It was also the case that the Crystal desert used to be the Crystal Sea before the fall of Abaddon. There is arguments that Abaddon was in the right by some. And I feel the story of Guild Wars 3 might suggest that Abaddon might have had a point about magic. Although I suspect it'll be more Nuanced than that, at least I hope.

My theory is there aren't just 6 gods. We know that Balthazar has a brother and father... But I suspect there are far more gods than that out in the Mists somewhere.

normalmighty: Lore wise, the thing that has me the most hyped about GW3 is the potential to learn so much more about the human Gods. We're going back to a time when they were still present on the world, and we have the chance to hear first hand accounts of events from them directly

KROOF: I NEED more Melandru lore. I feel like she really gets the short end of the stick at times. :P

jl-nz7gh: I'm with the Charr on this. I want an expansion where we get rid of the rest of them simply for claiming to be gods

balintmolnar5153: Gw3 job: Lore and character for the gods and human history

lathamtk: Overall the human Gods are either completely useless or even malicious to their worshippers & the environment overall. Throughout the story they have done NOTHING positive past bringing Humans to Tyria. They imprisoned Abby ---> Abby is pissed and every GW1 plot point is his fault. Dhuum, one of the original 6 was an asshat who was left to his own devices for too long, and the other 5 again did nothing to stop him. Had to be Grenth and his 7 BFF necro buddies to deal with Dhuum initially.

What is the point in worshipping these charlatans again, exactly? They provide humans with neither answers, nor protection, not even guidance.

IvanThink: Amazing video! Very well spoken and amazingly presented!

P.S. Abaddon will rise again!

KeyOrion: In the original Guild Wars, at the beginning, there was 5 gods, and the 6th god, Kormir came about during the Nightfall campaign. It was also learned during that campaign that Abbadon was a fallen or sealed god, that the rest of the gods had imprisoned. Abaddon being the god of Secrets, and Kormir becoming the god of Truth. The lore behind each god can be found in the Guild Wars wiki. The lore of each god as we learned is closely linked to their first apostles or very first followers. The lore is very in depth in Guild Wars, to the point in years past, players would actually argue of who was the best god or most powerful, and argue the points detail by detail.

By Guild Wars 2, the six gods of that time, had left the worldly affairs of Tyria, and it is learned in the Domain of Kormir that the gods were leaving Tyria. Whether permanently or not, we do not fully know. It's during the early campaigns that we learn that there was a falling out between five of the gods and the one known as Balthazar, god of War. To go in depth would give far too many spoilers at this point. I do highly recommend either picking up the details in Lore videos, Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 wiki's, or just playing the game to learn all the details. It's a very full and flavorful universe to live and adventure it.

pheidippidess: As I understand, Abbadon 'gifted' magic to Tyria by simply releasing a lot of the magic stored in the Seer-created Bloodstones, which the Gods and their followers had found not long after their arrival to Tyria. The seers had created the bloodstones originally to seal a lot of Tyria's magic away and lower the ambient magic level so that the Elder Dragons would go back to sleep and stop destroying everything, which the Gods and Humans didn't know about at the time. The misuse of the Bloodstone and Magic in general, plus the whole Abbadon incident, basically woke the Elder Dragons back up. Consequently, the major motivation for their departure (the Exodus) was the knowledge that if they fought the Elder Dragons, which they would inevitably have to do if they stayed, it would leave Tyria destroyed regardless of the victor. Balthazar obviously disagreed with that though.

Mina-Diamandis: Lyssa is my favorite god and definitely the most mysterious. Is she one entity or two? Is she actually queen Jennah/Anise? to what end? We already know that she loves to disguise as a mortal and meddle in human affairs. hope we get to learn more about her.

dreadpiratexx: Praise the 5... F Balthazar

finallyanime: Avatar spells were so sick in gw. I hope they do something like that again

cubeislife1675: I appreciate your videos

Thank you.

kiratastic7048: Actually in regards to the gods giving magic, we know exactly how they did it! They found the original bloodstone and used those to bequeath magic upon the mortal races. That’s why they put it back into the bloodstones when they took it back!

KitKelpie: It would be interesting to get more about other gods mentioned: Ameyalli and Zintl, Koda, Menzies, Mellaggan (who may or may not be Melandru or Soo-Won), the demi-god three queens, and if there was one before Abaddon.

nielsjensen4185: If they were able to rival the Elder Dragons then they would have stayed and fought. After being in Elona I no longer believe anything about how powerful the human gods were.

I fully believe Balthazar when he said that he was at full power after absorbing the Bloodstone. It was just the full power that the human gods were able to display while on Tyria. If they were connected to the Mists then it would be another case. This also explains the reason that Abbadon could stand up to FIVE of them, he was connected to the Mists when they fought.

The history of Elona also fails o match up with the geological evidence. The Sea of Elona is connected to the Endless Ocean, it stands to reason that the Crystal Ocean was as well, else it would had been called a lake, see "Lake Michigan"; the Red Sea is an inlet of the Indian Ocean. The Endless Ocean spans Tyria, Tyria is a globe. If they burned away the sea to create the Crystal Desert, then they would have had to burn away that amount of water GLOBALLY. If they raised Elona from the seabed, then the area would had been raveged by apocalyptic level earthquakes and finding an intact vertical surface anywhere would be impossible.

I do think that desertification was happening in the area and that the fight merely accellerated it.

Yeah, Kormir told us what would happen if the human gods fought the Elder Dragons, and I think that was a lie, that from her point of view was the truth, since if someone knows nothing else, then that becomes their truth regardless of how incorrect it is.

An important thing to note about Kormir is that all her domains are esoteric and essentially mean nothing. All the other humans gods, even Abbadon, had one domain that was observable and measurable. Kormir is truth, spirit, and order, all things that have no physical form. The other human gods never even gave her the domain of water, despite it being right there and up for grabs. Being from a desert, water is extremely important. I think from the pov of the other human gods, Kormir was just convenient to have around, so they gave her a BS portfolio that sounded important and in reality means nothing.

If you look at it objectively, even Joko embodied her domains because he was the truth for his people, their spirits under him was extremely high, and he created order. Granted, the truths were incorrent, the spirit of his people were motivated to some extent, and the order was extremely harsh and despotic.

cinderheartMLP: Humans still have prayers to their gods as skills. If they can hear and answer prayers, that counts as a god to me! Even if it can be killed.

gigantasaurx: Great video

JaredWilliams-u1w: Gw3 gonna snap! I want to see how Grenth took over.

16Vagabond: The Charr did nothing wrong, the human "aliens" came out of nowhere and drove them out of their homeland violently with the help of their gods

It's no wonder they tried to find one of their own to take back their land

LuMatyja: Why gods left without taking their imprisoned pals with them? They just left humans to deal with all their bullcrap, on top of other nightmares like dragons
