Did Mirrors RUINED The Ectoplasm Economy? Guild Wars 2

ReapeX: Ideally, I would like ectos to be used instead amalgamated gemstones to get research materials.

n-Chantreuse: Sure hope this crashes soon. Ive got legendaries to make.

sh00termacg: They were 18 silver before. I'm waiting for them to drop further, been a pain to craft legendries the last few months.

nestormartinez1593: Can't wait to buy my ectos back for a fraction of the cost lol

Marcus_Vbc: Im confused with the dooming about ecto prices, they used to be at 20silver for several years and the economy was completely fine and stable, just because they arent overpriced like before and selling for half a gold doesnt mean everything is going to crash

mayam.3240: It felt like during Soto we had someone in charge who actually understood the game's economy. At that time the game has suffered from deflation for years, so it was healthy to create some inflation while also providing massive ecto sinks. JW's rewards were well done, too.

In VoE it feels like someone else got in change. Instead of carefully dialing the inflation down they decided to nuke to economy by removing the infinite gold from VW while also flooding the market with materials. Especially the mirror farm is very problematic since it appeals only to a fraction of the players while affecting everyone's rewards.

Yes, low prices can be good for some people but it's a problem if a lot of the game doesn't feel rewarding anymore. Especially VoE has an absoultly terrible rewards design. Unless you are interested in all the account bound skins, certain leggies or the brainless mirror farm there is not much incentive to come back to the maps, no matter how pretty they are.

306316: Add a sandstorm tab that eats only ectos

pspdsi22: Perhaps we need some sort of luck & Crystalline Dust sink to encourage the salvage of ectos?

krieghandt-l9i: When people talk about inflation, they ask if there is deflation. Well, there is, and this is a prime example of why it is not a good thing. In fact, IRL, the horded ecto would soon be hitting the market as companies, er, players sell at any price to get liquid capital to restructure their business model. This was the #1 cause of bankruptcy on the gold standard.

Vermitrex-420: 10×supply >price goes down. Much wow

saoiray: No reason for ectoplasm to be expensive. They are incredibly easy to get and just a small part of everything.

Higher prices is just market manipulation and bad YouTuber videos

steher: 18-20 was normal. Idk people are so greedy in game. What are you going to do with a million gold? Just play the game and have fun.

Velgor: prop sitting on 100k of ectos , hoped they got at least near 40s

anet really needs to add more sinks for ectos (and some other mats which are vendor value...)

nikola4511: i lost 9000 gold

AlexTh3Gr8: I really should have sold my 10k ectos on the first day of the festival when they where around 33s each, since then they have steadily dropped more and more in value. Im not a gambler, never was never will, I hate the whole mentality of RNG especially in a game. Im all about hard work and perseverance. Fun fact, I haven't hoarded them from the mirror farm because I find it mentally exhausting and soul sucking, so I just got them naturally from other sources in game. The reason I have so many is that Im full purple and have no reasonable way to use them other than to sell them or gamble them. Obviously selling them is the only avenue for me and keeping them until the next legendary pops in a few weeks might be far more profitable than selling them during this festival. There is also the HoM patch in the future that might find a good sink for them. Not to mention Anet could do either of 2 things in the short term, make a significant sink for them (and other materials) in the next patch (which is supposed to come with new armors and weapon sets) besides the leggy sword. OR..do what they do with leggy weapons, "ghost buying them" from the trading post to keep their value above a certain point. As a person who crafts leggy's to sell, I know for a fact they do buy them from the TP at critical points in order to stimulate and artificially inflate their value.

For me, if the price doesnt at the very least peak at 35s or above, I'll just hold onto them until the next expansion in 2 years, I have all the space in my alts and bank to hoard 100k of them easily and I have no shortage of gold anyway. I dont need to buy them, I certainly dont need to farm them from mirrors, I didnt even do that before the first (and now 2nd nerf) and I dont need to sell them. All and all, this festival never was my cup of tea, because gambling gives me only anxiety and no dopamine rush what-so-ever.

Edit:

And for the love of god, no mirrors in the fourth map too unless they are even further nerfed.

lanceclark5993: I have no sympathy for market manipulators and moguls who lose on their ecto gamble. I'm sure they will be just fine, and figure out some other market to manipulate to take advantage of the average player.

Enemy_Operator2534: Good!

Lossentur: Can't wait for the ecto price spike after the last VoE update. With the nerf to mirrors and legendary, which heavily use globes, the 50s from the last festival will sound cheap.

borc69: Thanks for the video reminder , logged in bought 700g of ecto , got chak infus and bubble wand , great

belgianht: Anet have always been regulating the price of ectos and mc's a bit and interfere if the price got too high or too low. Then they publicly said they'd stop interfering a few years ago, but for some reason they decided to interfere twice in the course of a year but heavily underestimated the outcome. First they cleaned out ectos with the insane 1:7 four winds conversion rates last year, shattering infusion prices which will never recover because unlike the past when they didn't drop (aside from the non existant meta drops) outside of 4 winds, now they also come into the game at a way better rate in the weekly raid boxes.

Then they overcompensated the lack of ectos with the ecto mirror stuff and just let that go on for way too long. Wouldn't surprise me to see quite a need for ectos for something in the next quarterly update. If not, then the ecto price will stay low till an expansion after gw3 where they could make something that requires ectos again. One thing 's for sure imo, you'll never see a 1:7 ecto rate in four winds anymore, not even 1:6. Maybe 1:5 on a good year.

They just should've never put all the infusions in four winds to begin with, should've just been a festival with a crazy infusion on its own that was only obtainable 3 weeks/year. If they'd ever need to get rid of a lot of ectos then they could always "sacrifice" that 1 infusion and create a new one the next year to give people that carrot to chase. By upping the ecto:zephbox rate last year, they didn't just sacrifice one, they sacrificed all of them...

scotiasweetie1647: It will be interesting to see what Anet does. Ectos should be moving more but they aren't. We are used to fluctuating prices but the over supply is causing value loss across the board. That affections the motivations for doing the metas for the rare drops. If the rare drops become less rare and less valuable that can be an issue for the motivation for making gold and doing events for the rare drops. I personally dont think they should have put so many of the infusions into raid and fest boxes. The plus side is one can get infusions at a bargain atm. But the more the market is flooded w cheaper infusions, it cheapens the value of doing the events to farm for them like the fun of pinata or chasing tms goes down if the potential score isnt as valuable. imho

funnyhour101: You can blame blish hud as well. I think 1 leg. Req. 3000 but that seems easy to farm in a couple months

fictivefun2048: Many people hoarded ectos because of videos and other players telling them to hoard ectos for this festival. There are two things to do with those ectos, gamble them or sell them. It seems most of the ecto hoarders went the sell route. Supply > demand means prices drop

kwith: Good, more people will be able to afford legendaries. I hope they keep dropping. Now if only coins would drop in value too.

Daniele-rc3vo: thats why a gamer is not a trader ^_^ Everyone expected to make money buying at 22 for a year and selling at 30 lol big FOMO event

Maelstrax: I spent all my gold loading up on Ectos when you said it was going to go up, It hasnt gone up lol hahaha

Sandoval-Leo: what if make the farm of the mirrors once per week? and do a little buff on the mirrors
