A Big damage Problem Guild Wars 2 cannot fix GW2

xoawolf: It is definitely a fixable issue. And tbh it's done regularly in other games, like WoW and LoL. I think that people, both devs and players are too afraid to go through with it.

Pretty much why I quit after playing the game for so many years. If GW 3 turns on out to have the same TTK, I wont even give it a go...

NexusNoxCS: Eh, we always knew Anet could, had the capacity to actually balance the game both vs. player and vs the enviroment. They just won't. Because capacity does not equal willingness. Because actually balancing means fixing the underlying disease at the source, not playing whackamole with the symptoms. Because to fix it, they'd have to be radical: delete Quickness and Alacrity from the game, slash ALL DPS numbers to a quarter, rework Boons to be short, powerful, impactful buffs instead of a constant baseline, delete Concentration stat from the game, rebalance all the post-HoT encounters for this new level of damage, reducing health bars and such. It is possible to do. They won't do it. The outcry of the playerbase would be too loud and too irrational. It will hurt their bottomline, 100%. It would just take too big a set of balls and too siff a spine to be confident enough to pull the trigger for this overhaul, and since Anet's people do not posess either... well, it is what it is. Can't put any of this nonsense back into the Pandora's box anymore.

satangw2: Very cherry picked example since Guardians are incentivized to pick Valkyrie amulet due to one single trait in Radiance granting you 800 precision. The real problem of today's GW2 is that more-or-less majority of the kit does a lot of damage. You are more or less dodging every single ability, your average skill does close to what your hard hitters do. The real problem is the overall DPS output. We had 60k dps build in PvE at launch of VoE compared to launch of HoT where only top builds could hit 20k dps. Homogenization of classes is another culprit, removing unique mechanics and utility where the bandaid is boon creep and more damage. This has been a major issue in the game since the February 2020 Patch where we normalized Ranged damage doing the same output as melee damage, and ranged bruisers/semi-tanks like Nade Holo. then Sbow Renegade then Mender Scourges dominated meta for a long time, while being constantly class stacked because you could nothing against a ranged stat-checker.. The Ranged Bruiser archetype led to ANet giving insane damage output to Untamed/Willbender/Harb/Vindi and then it went even crazier from there. WE NEED to go back to the design philosophy where Ranged Weapons/Kits CANNOT be camped, and are used as a part of the kit/rotation while reducing boon creep and bringing back utility/teamplay tools. We killed stance share on soulbeast to get traits like daze/blind on dodge. I still have no hope because the devs obviously do not interact with the gamemode, they will look past the issues and only keep adjusting the most popular meta specs like they've been doing for the past 4 years.

cogsincogs: There used to be hard counter builds for certain other builds, now many builds hard counter almost everything. The downfall started with condi spam and then finished the game off with boon spam and damage creep.

saracentia3193: Well said Cap'n. ive always said trait lines needed stats like the old days. it just made sense, not only for there theme, but balance as well. What's that? you've took a defensive trait line? have some defensive stats to go along with it. not exactly rocket science XD

If the goal is money, gacha mobile game is the way to go. It could make a year’s worth of MMO revenue in just one week.

Fixing existing things is always easier. Creating something from scratch is always harder, no matter what.

on my cute zeal lumi, I do 20k damage via 4 symbols that last 4s and are deployed in a 1s span

12-16k from 2 hits on forge 2

6k~ from sword 5 and sword 2

3-4k total from sovereign of light hits

and 8-12k from hammer 2.

all this happens in about 3-4s for 49k damage minimum. also you get dazed at some point during this clown fiesta. I kill hare vokers with this because they take so much damage so fast they don't even think to press their blur key

Gonjo0: With the direction Anet has both in PvE and PvP modes the past years, I don't know how anyone expects GW3 fixing that. If GW3 is indeed in the making it will not be a GW2 . It will be a completely different direction aimed at a different target audience. Only disappointment is to be expected from GW2 fans similar to what happened with GW1 but people cope too much. I am not saying the new game will necessarily fail but I cannot see it being what we want it to be.

TheRealSeryi: Sadly I think the only ones coping are the people who think GW3 would do anything except financially ruin ArenaNet. It's not the same gaming industry we had in the mid 2000s, MMOs are not exactly doing well in our current climate nor has this genre been doing so hot for the past decade for that matter.

What we have is likely what we're going to get. So we should keep trying to push for positive changes in GW2, however unlikely that might be.

My engineer had hgh, a rifle, and grenades. Elixer h, b, s, and x. Lots of condi removal, invuln stun breaker, stability and invisibility, constant swiftness, might stacking up the wazoo, and hybrid damage.

Then they changed it. I forever shelved the engineer because it just wasn't the same anymore. They wanted me to use a hammer instead of my beloved rifle.

I switched to an elementalist, then a revenant, then a warrior, and the cycle of temporary happiness before depression due to game changes continued before I finally quit.
