World of Warcraft has a new player problem

BecomingMum: SO weird to watch a new person experience it when I've played through the starting areas so many times and instictivly know where to go! XD

necrosyther: I remember my first character was a hunter, and I totally skipped getting a pet because I had no idea how, made it to lvl 20 and gave up

FalloutFM: He picked a night elf druid just like we did

w33d533d: my little brother bought one of hte newer expansions for me to try to come back, i didn't make it out of the starter zone before i quit, it's not the same game it's like trying to play a mobile game version of the game that i actually want to play, it's depressing to even try to play it

PsychoWedge: you should do a follow up vid. you two guys are entertaining and it is interesting as a og player who recently came back after 14 years and is bewildered what retail has become. :D

ThisisCitrus: Asmongold mention was a red flag, I hope your buddy isn't one of his sheep viewers.

JohnRed: WoW has a Blizzard problem. Nothing in the game was confusing for a new player until Blizzard started making the game more ''approachable.'' They went from a game where you slowly learn the mechanics while exploring, to bombarding the player with 100 different mechanics overtutorializing them on everything, leaving the player completely lost after they've completed the tutorial having learned nothing. ''Press this press that open your inventory, now craft 10 chaos gems, I don't care that you don't know what this mechanic even is, just fucking do it, press WASD to move, this is a group, just join it already and clear this dungeon, hey you're following IDIOT? ok now leave the group.'' Player just goes ''what the fuck just happened?'' having clicked the glowing buttons without understanding what he was clicking.

oldschooldude8370: Being guided to IF through wetlands at lvl10 and dying over and over always stuck with me

gameusurper: 34:34 "I might be wrong, but I feel like I'm missing a lot?"

Oh bro, you have NO idea.

calmly_raging: Dude the fact that Jim, as a new player, felt skeptical of Retail 5 mins in says SO much. That should be a major red flag for Blizzard.

sungodniku: Only at the start of the vid but it's so weird to see someone just leave their bags open the whole time.

jimofee: T'was a unique experience with more stories to uncover in world of warcraft. Thank you all for the lovely comments! I will carry on as much i can!

adlez47: As far as "100%" the game goes, there's a ton of ways to feel like you've "completed" the game. There's no official checklist, but players just make their own goals. Some want to complete all the raids, some just want to reach max level, max all the reputations, or just make an army of alts to master every crafting profession. That last one has been my dream for years but I'm too altoholic to buckle down and progress any of them XD

idfk773: Itd be cool to see this guy hit max with you in both tbc and retail, see what he thinks after both experiences since beginning

CptFarlow: My first character was an Undead Warlock. I chose that because the guys I worked with at the time told me to make that because they needed it for their bg team. "Level to 70, tell us when you're done." The only time they really helped me was to get me out of Silverpine and over to the Barrens to quest. It was a pvp server as well (Eredar!) and I hold so much nostalgia for my experience playing back then. I've leveled my main through every exp except DF but I tend to get bored with endgame rep grinds in retail, and thankfully we have Classic and TBC Classic to fall back on to relive the old days. Great vid. Would love to see more of the two of you.

juanjesus3771: Retail pretends to be an epic journey, but it feels like an arcade

adelghawanmeh: the point he made about retail lacking the "reward" feeling is spot on. at least it's the reason I stopped.

Nothing has value at all, everyone can get everything even gear at end game!

chronicles8324: REtail is the epitomy of what happens when you tinker and add to a core game and create a total mess, i dropped out as an experienced player after 3 expansions and at that point i was getting confused and fatigued let alone for a new player

Iggypox: Rolled tauren hunter the first time a long time ago, didn' t know what to do so I stayed in Mulgore for more than a month thinking that was the whole game, A friend later showed me Orgrimar and the rest, loved it since day one.

Arenumberg: I introduced a person who played varying games - though would of called themselves casual - to the whole MMO thing and immediately ran into issues like movement - the concept of using wasd and strafing and such wasn't particularly intuitive to them because its a control scheme that's very foreign if you've never encountered it before - particularly with controllers and what have you. Was really an eye opener.

thorarnefahsingandersen4793: Love this video Jake! I want a full playthrough now

sungodniku: 15:40 Wait until Jim finds out that it's literally impossible to complete osrs (statistically impossible to 100% the collection log for example)

grammy2838: The classic 1-60 game was a conventional RPG at heart with a lot of inspiration from table top DnD. The old devs talk about the 1-60 experience as the main game and raiding as a kind of post-game activity.

Blizzard made some decisions in the early expansions which hurt the long term viability of the game like raising the level cap, the introduction of flying, dungeon finder, the gear treadmill, bid to turn PvP into an esport, high difficulty progression raids, etc.

The big question for the new version of classic that they’re working on is can they make an evergreen end game ecosystem for vanilla without these inherent design traps.

Xintho: Now I'm wondering if Jim knew about the Stormwind glitch from watching me guide Azmon on the beta. As soon as I saw where you were jumping from i knew it was doomed.

Santirata: I think it would have been fun to see the retail experience completed in Teldrassil to contrast the changes made to the same area.

xrudley: exactly how ive felt trying to play retail. my friends tell me to get on but i dont even really get to play with them. theres so much on my screen yet barely any direction. i have plenty of characters, played dragonflight campaign, war within campaign and a little bit of raiding/ end game gearing. it just feels like i have less agency and progression is just given to me while having to ask a friend what i should and shouldnt do.

Minkmiester: Also, NOTHING, makes me want to be a completionist, more than seeing other completionits.
