Dazlidorne: Thank God I am not the only one that thinks this. I have been playing since vanilla (yeah, I'm one of those guys) and I feel like there are too many buttons to play a class.
soho2409: It's the arms race between fight designers and add-on developers. That, and blizz trying to turn wow into some sort of e-sport.
ReganSmash83: I really think you hit the nail on the head here and I think we need an overhaul of the leveling process to help teach you how to play your class. Class quests in Classic are great because you’re doing things that specifically relate to your class. Finally, addons should never exist in a designer conversation. If players want to use DBM that’s a player choice and an encounter should never be build with the assumption that addons are being used
brandonce9521: Even the quests are not explained clearly a quarter of my play time is on wowhead
S.Romanes: Well said :)
Pancakes832: Too many spells and buttons to press. So many. Wish it was like elder scrolls lol
Briansgate: It's too damn convoluted. Too many currencies, too many factions. Crafting became useless. You have to log on for your part-time job, including your daily and weekly to-do list, just to stay relevant.
TE-eq1dc: Now take most class rotations X 10 and you got outlaw rogue. Been playing combat/outlaw since BC and this class needs some major help/rework need a manual and calculator to play this damn class not to mention I’m getting older…sucks
nemek2082: ''The game today assumes players will just look it up.''
That's exactly why Retail lost me this year. Every classes, Every dungeons, every raids, every world events and collectables, EVERYTHING is built assuming you either have addons, or have Wowhead open on the second monitor.
This formula is anti immersion, and the amount of bloat makes it so it's no longer enjoyable to play, it's just become a dopamine overload. I do 1 Raid, or 1-2 dungeons, and I feel burnt by all the blinking lights, all the explosions to dodge, the bloated active rotation, the addon requirements etc.
PvP is no longer playable and hasn't been for years either due to every classes having 5 cooldowns, 5 defensives, 5 cc's etc making it impossible to track and have a clear satisfying combat that isn't bloated.
I want to play a game, get immersed in the design of the game. Not lose that immersion because the game is designed for eSports, addons, and wowhead. Inviting pro players on WoWcast does nothing good for this game.
The amount of addons being downloaded isn't an indication of what players want, it's an indication of what's missing. Adding a 1 button rotation due to hekili having 60m downloads isn't that people want help doing their rotation, it's because the rotation is too hard in the first place to be doable and fun on it's own. The solution isn't rotation helper. IT'S CUTTING THE BLOAT. Why are they treating the symptom of what they created, instead of curing the disease ? To appease the little player base left doing highend content asking for this ? What about the countless millions of players who quit because of this ? How is this good...
Tried classic for the first time this year as a MoP starter, it's been fun, a bit too slow for me but it's Hella immersive! A good middle ground between retail and classic is where it's at for me. There has to be a middle ground, and that middle ground won't be found by listening to MDI & RWF players who keep pushing for more every year, pushing millions of players away.
Classic Leveling made me fall in love with WoW once more. Again, I think it's a bit too slow for me, but why does Retail ignore all these expansions of content and rush people to end game ? I've never known anyone who fell in love with WoW by doing end game content. Everyone I know fell in love while leveling and experiencing the world... I've tried to get 3 friends into WoW recently, they all quit at max level which took no time at all, they were completely lost, had no idea how to play their class still, and never got immersed cause the experience was all over the place...
I want my immersive MMORPG back... Everyone I know is quitting because of these things...
ullazitabinder2091: the worst part for me (an aging player) is the fact that they change the abilities, the talents, the core to the specific class time after time...I've always loved my arcane mage, but at some point, they changed it so much, that I simply gave up to following along. That did open up the joy of melee classes, but yes...too many keys, too many factions, too many bloody things you have to do each day/week to keep up with the game (and second job). I enjoy raiding, I enjoy doing end game stuff like M , raiding on higher difficulty etc, and while I understand that higher difficulty equals more mechanics and more cooperation, there's too much you have to keep an eye on, and sometimes you even have to prioritize what stuff you can do today, because you have a RL job, and a RL life to tend to....and the time that I spend on wowhead and icyweins takes away the game time...I've played since cata, and though I still feel like coming home when logging into wow, I find myself more and more often playing other games to actually doing something relaxing
towstySlim: Exactly
VaranTheCasual: If the game was simplified more, more people would be interested in coming back or trying it out. Simple as that.
cocs88715: I am really feeling exactly like this since Shadowland. The game is demanding more and more and more of competitive stats-driven gameplay, and at the same time losing more and more of that complexity in storytelling and immersive exploration. Right now it’s just a shallow Disney giant Barbie that unapologetically tramps over you if you don’t know how to press its buttons.
Though deeply, I feel it’s also us who made WoW what is today, not just Bliz.
creepyypaper1438: The answer is simple. Classic
kroven009: A ranking system for literally everything ruined the game. You're required to be an expert in every scenario, even brand new stuff. If you're not, you get spit at and booted. I miss when all we had was thottbot lol
nawdog187: 100% accurate on the game , seriously!!
NikumbaUK: Loved the videos, you cover a lot of points, I went through an issue in 2024 where had several operations on my eyes so your videos were great to help me get back into it, but I struggle to enjoy the game any more, partly as there is just so much to track in a dungeon, having to use weak auras, gtfo, dmb, I even use Hekili as that helps me with the rotations.
I am looking forward to the one button coming in and hoping that will let me enjoy the game a bit more, I am a casual player, I do some m with my guild but always low down on the DPS meter partly as I am trying to juggle mechanics, cooldowns and 15 odd key binds.
Telamont: Yeah gotta say things really do feel kinda off, I came back a few weeks ago after stopping back in shadowlands and only thing not at 80 is mage 77 and rogue 74 (should have those finished tonight or tomorrow) and some things do feel really repetitive with your example of pally probably being the worse in that regard.
silentdocsihreen1912: Yes, I agree that WOW has lost the plot. Having played since BC, on and off, I think that during the time Activision management pushed WOW to be an "E-Sports" title, was the start of going off the rails. When you only cater to the top 1/10 of 1% of the player base, who play the game AS A JOB, you are on the wrong path for a game that is for the majority of folks.
I think that FFXIV is closer to how the game play loops should be for the different classes. In fact, in playing FFXIV I feel like the game designers are always looking for ways that the players will be challenged, but are given the tools and training so they will ultimately succeed. This is of the reverse feeling that I get when I play WOW today. WOW's design seems to focus on how I can make sure that players FAIL, unless they PERFECTLY execute high end content.
J3dotgg: As a returning player that also never experienced vanilla through wrath when they were current I think this video is very narrowly focused on being optimal in combat. Whilst that is certainly something I would like to get good at eventually. It is most definitely not my concern when I am just playing through the campaign and doing some simple farms.
TooMuchTuna7: Nice video! Def agree
T.R.75: complexity for complexities sake, isnt fun, and game devs need to figure this out fast. its lazy game dev. make it fun, dont make it annoying.
nitshian: My friends stopped playing cuz of that, every season you need to get a science class before playing. If you switch into a new class its horror. New expansion instead of excitement, they can't motivate themselfs to log in for two weeks. Games are for fun and joy first, then you can make them challenging.
rudy2978: I would like to point out something.
I recently focused on Warframe, reaching max level and complete all achievements. (For reference there are about 120 achievements and 35 ranks, after 30 they're called Legendary 1, 2, 3, etc. So L5 is highest)
Why is this important? Well, it was 100% work and skill and 100% reward. Sure, there was RNG, it was sufficient to keep you playing but not time disrespecting.
I quit wow for the same reason I quit so many jobs, 100% work and skill for maybe 30% reward. Taxes upon taxes, upon lies, upon gaslighting, upon bla bla.
It's an issue because you never feel good enough no matter what you do, while being judged on whatever metric and punished if you don't know.
I call this "Life is chaos, I actively do things to insert order into chaos, 100% work, 100% reward. Chaos is adicting and confusing." Same goes for gym, 100% work, studying, training, eating and 100% reward.
Good luck and I hope you found this useful for the future.
stygia2002: The crafting system has become cumbersome and overwhelming to the point that I have given up on it. I used to love crafting so this is a major buzzkill for me
