Shopping CartRhastasGaming: Watched the whole hour, nodding along the entire time. Jim describing what it feels like to be scapegoated as the new player, the loot goblin confessions, the "every man for himself" mentality,
I wish more people had the patience to think about others in the game in general, not just themselves. Nobody ninjas your herb, your vein, your chest, your loot. nobody talking in dungeons.
This is basically a highlight reel of everything I've been making videos about lately. That moment where someone told Jim "go to hell" over a loot roll? I literally made a video about that exact scenario because I watched it happen to a new player in my own group.
It's like veterans forget that new players are still playing the game, we all just assume everyone already knows it all. Hearing this from Jim's perspective as a fresh player hits way different than veterans complaining about it. Great conversation.
P.S. I'm Horde on the same server. If either of you ever fancy rolling a Horde character, the bags and starter gold are on me. No strings, just paying forward the energy you're putting out there.
kevindunlap8309: A lot of times, in a pug, if show "weakness" in anyway shape or form, people will just leave...
the50pkid: Ive just done 1-60 in open world as i hated getting railroaded by aggressive players in dungeons because i didnt know the boss mechanics or the most optimal route! It made me really sad...
Rivermandan: Definately the worst aspect of the game is other players. Extremely toxic enviroment especially in dungeons. The metric that new players are helpful and friendly..good players become toxic assholes and very good players go back to being helpful and friendly
fchampd4512: Jim, from classy to cap. Wow destroys people
Hundr_: They should just have Era servers for each xpack
loftus4453: The funny thing is we generally only remember the jerks from dungeons. The quiet players who just do their jobs well we rarely remember.
What is the name of your guild on Thunderstrike? My husband, son and I are leveling toons on Thunderstrike. It would be fun to join up with you guys.
I’ve healed for 20 years in Wow. I’ve advised many healers on what spells to cast, but so much about healing can’t really be taught. I swear the first 10 years I healed my biggest issue was panic. If things went wrong, like a mob of trolls coming out of nowhere, I tended to freeze up. It took me a very long time to learn to stay calm when the shit hits the fan. That can’t be taught, you just have to go through it time after time. Anyway, I’ve followed these videos and I think your healing is excellent especially since you just started playing.
And yes, the WoW community can be really toxic. I’ve heard it all. I’ve been told I was the worst player in the entire game. I’ve been told to die in a fire. It’s really unfortunate how intolerant the player base is of new players. Best approach is to realize it’s their problem, not yours.
MyntenEU: time to try other mmos! see how it is for new players
JM-ym8mm: To be fair, pallies tell you to not do anything before consecration in TBC especially because a lot of pulls require LOS and a good portion of dps players simply don't allow the mobs to get to the tank before they let loose. A lot of pallies use it as a marker for where the eye of battle will be.
I don't mind a tank who lets everyone know what his preferences are. In the scenario you are mentioning Jake, it would take a wipe before you started telling people what they should not do and I think anything that can prevent that is welcome. People are allergic to wipes.
For a new player, telling your group that you are new is "damned if you do, damned if you don't". You could tell a party that you are new and have people kick you or leave the party for it or you could keep it to yourself to avoid that and end up causing a wipe from a basic mechanic. I think especially in the old world and TBC normal dungeons, it is not a bad thing to assume some of the people in your group have not run the dungeon before and give some of the lesser known tips.
HotShot1-1: gota play HC the server lives and breathes with life
Rraythe: I’ve been playing MMOs since 1999, and I don’t understand why there’s this idea of Retail being so Disneyfied/feminized/whatever. Retail isn’t better or worse than Classic; they’re just different. You can still take your time to level in Retail, if you don’t want to get to the endgame right away. It’s true that it couldn’t possibly take 120 hours to go through a single expansion in Retail, but if you want that experience, that’s why Classic exists. The fact that leveling is faster in Retail doesn’t make it a lesser game; it’s just a different game. People who want to get to the Retail endgame quickly—and who, let’s be honest, probably don’t care about the story and don’t read the quest text anyway—are no different than the folks in Classic who buy a boost so they can get to the endgame faster. That mechanic exists in both games, so why does it matter to someone if someone else wants to skip to the end? If you don’t want to skip to the end, don’t. Easy peasy.
Retail has a wider variety of things to do than Classic does, but you aren’t required to do any of them, just like you aren’t in Classic. Both have leveling and dungeons and raids and questing, both have professions and gathering, both have the auction house game. You can do any combination of those, and if you only want to do some of them, you don’t have to do the others. If all you want to do is leveling and dungeons and raids and questing, then just do those and ignore the rest. Both Retail and Classic have collections (mounts, gear, reputations), but Retail has more things you can collect than Classic does (pets, achievements, transmogs, decor, way more titles, all depending on which version of Classic you’re playing). Again, if you aren’t into collecting, then don’t. If you aren’t into player housing, then don’t do it. If you don’t like Plunderstorm or Remix or whatever, don’t play them. Everything is optional. And even Jake said that he didn’t think he could do the level grind in Classic again; with all the other things you can do in Retail, you can stay engaged with Azeroth and your guildmates without getting completely burned out by the grind. (And while I've never seen people get burned out in Retail as fast as people did this season because of L'ura, an awful lot of them switched to doing different activities rather than just leaving the game entirely, which is awesome.) If you want to experience the story pre-Cataclysm, you have no choice but to do Classic; but otherwise you can do the story in Retail just fine, either as a high-level character where you can breeze through (most of) the grind and just enjoy the story, or via Chromie time (which isn’t perfect, I get it) so you can level through the older expansions. (And Chromie time gives you the opportunity to do each expansion with a different race/class if you want, so you can experience more of the game without have to do the same 120 hours of content over and over again.) You don’t have to do Newbie Island; you can still do the original (post-Cataclysm) starting zones. I agree that retail feels very seasonal—you can bust your butt to get the absolute BIS gear, and it will all be useless in a couple months—but it seems like plenty of people still enjoy doing it, because they keep doing it season after season. And that’s fine, that’s the game they want to play. If you want to get to the endgame and have your gear be BIS forever, then Classic is a better fit. But one is not better than the other. They’re just different. And people who think there isn’t enough grimdark in Retail have not done the side quests in Voidstorm. Oof. (Not to mention two different instances in the main campaign where you have to kill your own allies because they've gone insane.) And those that think it’s gotten too cute have forgotten that there have always been bits of silly humor and Easter eggs in Warcraft, all the way back to the RTSs.
I’m not saying Classic players have to play Retail, or should play Retail, or are somehow lesser for not playing Retail. I love that Classic and Retail both exist and offer different things to different people. But outside of how fast you want to level and how long you want your gear to be relevant, there’s nothing activity-wise that you can do in Classic that you can’t do in Retail, so I don’t understand why there’s so much hate and disdain for Retail. They’re different but related games, and neither is better than the other. Play the game style you prefer, and let other people play they game style they prefer without denigrating the one you don't like.
Also, I love this video series and I'm looking forward to the next installment. :)
javierkiman8302: Masculine?! Most people have a ego or nothing about Englanders version. Their are different versions that America has. Especially the different regions of different groups of the indigenous in this country. Peru has the most development of an embodiment. As Mexico had too much conflict of trying too be Mexico and not as easily related to the other countries. As Mexico is the leader of the United States and Canada or Alaska. This is what the continent is.
The game of World of Warcraft is good for probably many songs and a few places with forests of the north, is nice. I think the game should be better, but it already is a complete style that cannot be changed, because gamers already like the game and that is not that many. Their are too many accounts made but fewer people. Its not like osrs or rs3. As people stay much longer for osrs or rs3 and people for wow. Do play for a month for level 60. Seems like trash of wow too get a gamer to level 60 and it not being that much.
C-wey: While I sympathize with new players receiving toxicity - I do think some things can be done about this to help against it.
I haven't watched all your videos, so maybe you already do these things, or the advice doesn't apply...
But first realize that the rest of the group may not know that you two are in discord - so if you two are not actively typing out a whole conversation, they have no idea about the thoughts going through your head or the things being spoken about over discord.
If they don't know you're a new player then they assume you aren't a new player.
With that assumption, if you aren't typing all your thoughts out, as if you weren't on a voice call, then your silence and ignorance looks like stupidity.
I've mained tank for the majority of my wow career and there are people who are borderline incapable of aiding a group if anything is going wrong, or they are put in any kind of position that doesn't merely require them to stand in one place and press a dps button until the fight is over. Many times they are also the type who don't cknowledge their own mistakes, probably because they feel there was nothing they could've done in the situation.
I'm sure you can imagine how much fun it is to carry these types of people through a dungeon..
I'm not saying they shouldn't be helped or taught, or dealt with in patience - but it's easy to see how that can be exhausting, especially in a game that is 20 years old has been dissected down to the attack table.
So if you're new, say so. They will likely take a lot of pressure off of you in terms of the knowledge they expect you to have.
Also, people will be assholes if you let them get away with it and not call it out.
That group you had with the mage that ran off and pulled - if you'd called that out right away it likely wouldn't have gone that way.
If someone is refusing to run back because they expect a druid rez - tell them "idk why you're still at your body, I'm not using battlerez on you for that run".
If a tank keeps running off while you're a healer while you're oom - tell them once you see it, "If you pull while I'm oom then don't expect any heals while I'm drinking"
You shouldn't have to tolerate people behaving like dickheads, so don't act like you do. WoW is a good game to practice your assertiveness in. Don't come off like a jerk yourself, and keep the ego out of your statements - but be firm and matter of fact, it'll create far better outcomes.
And if you do alot of that and they still behave like dicks then fk em, leave them to their misery. There's a million things to do in WoW, you don't have to tolerate them.
csguy3223: The run back issue is purely a retail player problem. Druid rez has no cooldown in retail, but druid also has a separate spell for battle rez. Retail refugees aren’t aware of the difference.
jambalaa4546: For me it's this "Every man for himselfism" paired with the widely spread elitist mindset that drives me away from doing anything outside of my guild. You have many people in the game that think they are really good players and if you don't play like them then you're wasting their time. People that think like they are the .1% but actually play in the 50% range. Dungeons get instantly abandoned if the first pull doesn't work out like they want it to. The problem is where they play at (middle range of content difficulty) that hinders people from advancing up because of the wall of toxicity what awaits them in the middle.
nicholascox6411: Film yourselves leveling 60-70 now !
Navebackwards1: 47:40 This is why Illidan said "You are not prepared".
phindme12: By far the hardest part of wow is dealing with other people, that is true end game. Has anyone mentioned downranking spells to Jim :) worth looking into for druid healing.
yetigaming8711: Something to try to strive for when healing as druid is try to recruit a rezzer for the party priest, shaman, paladin etc. Especially if you guys make it to endgame/long dungeons it saves alot of time and frustration. Its something to strive for but sometimes you arnt given the luxury. Since you guys are considering professions engineering is great for an extra rez with goblin jumper cables even if you dont get the improved versions its another failsafe to lean on. Power leveling by buying the mats shouldnt be the crazy expensive to get the skill for the first cables and might save a run back. The annoyance of not having a consistent rez are non existent in raids and are only felt in dungeons.
luzid3462: As a new tank in tbc i allways tell my grp that the first time tanking here and pls give me tipps if you have some just to avoid wipes cause wipes are a thing that really destroys the mood
Hundr_: Leveling on a PvE server is waaay diff than if you level on a PvP server.
That was my first experience to WoW. Didnt know anything, and ended up mading a character on the recommended realm. A PvP, Low pop server, stayed low too, even after the mass merges. Hated the World PvP at times, but looking back it made some interesting memories, and some great world PvP battles at times too.
Zyotomir: The reason tanks are sometimes so strict or acting like jerks is because there are so many idiots trying to do "shortcuts", pulling mobs instead of us, ass pulling, not wanding/dpsing in-between heals, forgetting mana drinks or bullets/arrows, dealing with loot drama, the list goes on...
playerdeniz1: Can someone help me please i still dont know what to play wow classic or retail i am new. I like pvp and gear progression alot.
espo_lou: 9:53 you need to expand your horizons.
sirlionheart4614: Hardcore series when?
AlexandreParé1: Yeah but you're always close to someone that can help you or have the same quest
Wow classic in top tier
VentusHarpus12: I mean, for one thing, people don't really have to communicate anymore. If they're stuck on a quest or can't figure anything out. There is Wowhead, icyveins, and YouTube. Yes, I love doing research myself, but having these sources takes away from communication. But also, if you ask for help in this game and you get the wrong person. They're gonna harass you and belittle you, also making other new players go look up what they're looking for.
Then this was me a couple of months ago; I was leveling my demonhunter. Doing midnight dungeons. I had just come back from a 4-year break not playing the game. I was doing the lowest amount of damage. The tank of that Dungeon had a fit because I wasn't putting out any DPS. I apologized, and I tried to improve. Nothing was wrong with my gear; I was using the one-button rotation. Come to find out, the tank tried kicking me from the group; it failed. And the tank had a massive fit. Nobody would kick me. The tank said, "I won't proceed till he's gone. which made the rest of the group kick him. And the healer even stated. Low DPS in a LFR dungeon doesn't really mean anything. The tank wasn't having it. After waiting for 5 minutes for a new Tank. A vengeance Demon Hunter popped in. The group told him what was up. Well, that Demon Hunter didn't give up on me. He guided me. And he helped me. "I was putting out low DPS because I was using Aldrachi Reaver " in my talents. He told me to switch to "Fel Scarred," and he helped me redo my talent tree. And was I ever putting out more DPS. I went from doing the lowest DPS up to the 2nd DPS. If it wasn't for me getting the help, I was about to quit again.
My problem is I hate talent trees. I just want to be able to fight mobs and do stuff. Having a talent tree is confusing. I enjoyed the game when they got rid of the talent trees. And I have no idea why they even brought it back.
Another reason why I keep to myself is.. The reason why I was off the game for 4 years to begin with is that my original account was banned. For abusive chat. I would crack jokes. I didn't mean to harm anyone. But I guess some things I said might have been offensive. So I keep to myself, and I don't socialize. If someone messages me. I'll reply. I even helped a fellow rogue player out. or ill socialize of im in a BG and I'm guarding a base, let's say Arathi Basin. I'll call out "Ince Mines or inc LM, or inc farm. And that's about it.
I just don't want to lose my new account, especially with everything I've done so far.
