Using Toxicity To Get Better at WoW

GideonCyn: Yeah some people just see anything other than praise as toxicity. the wow community has a hard leaning mantra towards toxic positivity and it's hard to navigate when youre encumbered by a normal layer of skin. I once had a tank freak out in a spire after i suggested he tank Emberdawn at the sides because we had all melee comp and the downtime of running to the sides was crucifying our timer. He started going on about his score and how all the top tanks tank the boss in the middle, I tried to get across the logic of downtime and he just wasnt having it. we timed the key but he just couldnt understand what I was trying to tell him, he just kept calling me toxic.

EDIT: Great analogy with the road rage example! the two are so alike its almost uncanny, well, you know to a certain degree (fiery vehicular death being excluded from wow and all)

pickkahandle: I had a mage flame me for like 30 minutes in whispers telling me to end myself for not cocooning him when he had a debuff when my cocoon was on cooldown even though he never died, I am no longer playing m

BalasielVOD: I try to do the following:

- Constructive criticism: try to do better next time and respond nicely to the person

- Toxic criticism: try to do better next time, but don't respond. If it was a really bad comment, maybe block the person after the run

RSD is a thing I struggle with, but I try to be smart about it

vladimirdosen6677: You can't take criticism if your brain is trained to be punished every time you make a mistake. Criticism is often associated as a negative for that sole reason.

Vasatus: 18 MT, we get to the first boss with 2 deaths to casts. I toggle interrupt details and notice our dk has 0 kicks. Before pulling the boss I say "dk keybind ur kick pls". He rage grips the corner pack after I pull the boss. Go next :)

thelittlemerman3020: always construct never destruct

arlenenolte8475: The Abandon feature has solved some of the issues IMO

valrath84: sometimes? lol most times lol ive been told to uninstall by dps who are allergic to defensives more times than i can count lol

TheUnbreakable333: I just got to resi 18 key as a brew tank never having played brew tank before this expansion

I would NOT have gotten so far if I had not read all the toxic comments on my pulls, routes etc. mob abilities etc.

one example is the mob on 2nd boss in Nexus point

On low keys you dont notice because the damage is low - but on high keys the frontal the mob does one shot the entire group the void lash

first 16 key I tanked the mob inside the golden beam and it was not dead when BL go used and it frontal cleaved the entire party

I didnt know what happend and I got super flamed for tanking it so I killed the group

I learned, next run I tanked it just outside so it had its back to the group and then joined the group when it was dead

I have had many many learnings like this reading the flaming of me party chat and eating my pride

zagor098: How would you react?

Yesterday. We go into a resil 19. One decent run , some mistakes, reset.

2nd run some mistakes but easily timed, wp.

Now the same group goes into a 20 AA.

Me (r-shaman) before the run starts:

Ok guys I need you to drop puddles on the third boss behind the boss, then tank moves boss (helps my healing output tremendously). Show the exact movement required in that AA waiting room. Where the boss will be, where my totem will be, where and how both will move during the fight.

One of the dps:

What?

Just manage your CDs and we'll be fine.

How would you interpret that response and how would you react to it?

TheGoatLocker: I think another common area for players to be unfairly toxic, is groups. Like, a 3 or 4 stack of friends grouped up, pugging the open spot(s). Specifically in m . What tends to happen, is the pug gets called out more often, if not ends up being the only one called out for mistakes. Even to the point where they become a scapegoat, I believe to subconsciously or consciously avoid blaming their buddies or taking accountability. Everything in this video applies to this. Just pointing out a unique circumstance that tends to generate a lot of common toxicity.

Noxcide_DK: 3900 io unholy dk ive never seen ANY toxicity yet all runs have been chill if we fail usually say NT and people then leave the party i guess toxicity is just in the lower keys must be bad players with egos that think they are good probably classic andys will never admit they made a mistake where if i mess up something i will own it deff a ego thing

ДмитрийВитальевич-с8ж: HI dear Bog! i cant buy you a coffe, but can i buy you some IO? ( toxic joke) xD

azkendarken4403: most runs ive pugged this season.. the healer is terrible. key ends with a wipe or healer standing in simple aoe saying "my bad" and the group just disbands. if anything, we need more toxicity.. why is no one flaming noob healers? on the other hand a dps dies 1-2 times the party chat goes wild. but healers being garbage wastes of oxygen is accepted. what a joke

TheLobos42: I recently found you, I really like what you're doing for the M community. keep up the amazing work!

Bury11: 6:07 use your reapers mark before u use your dark tarnsformation, so its refreshed, and u can use it again in your burst window :)

otherwise good video, keep it up

Dandosa1: Thank you, dude! I’ve been a tank man for a long time, I started learning in legion and really picked it up in BFA. I’ve had my fair share of toxicity, but the majority of comments are actual criticism that you can take the opportunity to learn from. Taking these comments, seriously has made me a much better player and a much better tank

spiderlegs101: I usually say, "BRO USE FREEDOM?!?!"

Strezleki: 8:58 You got me with this edit, I could hear her voice playing in my head lmao

olTWOFACElo: When I was coming back to the game after being gone for years. I was running BFA mythics and I just kept dying. I basically forgot about my defensives got called out for it. Wanted to defend myself, but realized oh nah he right. Now I think about how to be better about my defensive usage.

sniperlul: I was doing 1st pull on SR 20, and as usual thrash first mobs moonfire talon and move to the bird, someone ripped agro on the bird which I taunted, but then healer ripped agro on the talon which i could not possibly taunt. So basically i started getting dogpiled on for group mistake, and how I dont hold agro on priority target. (This is first time I even loat agro on that pack)

Jusdolive: Hmm, this is my experience on the whole m toxicity but generally speaking, most keys are fine and I don't see too much ass hats in the pugs I get into. Me and my bro push together and we tend to take care of most important mechanics for us and the group. Being a shaman with many tools at my disposal helps with a ton of situations so that might be a factor of why we don't encounter that much toxicity. What usually tends to happen is key bricks, we forfeit, move on to the next key. I will admit, me and my bro sometimes talk trash about the performance of some people on discord but that remains between us as we review our performance in high keys. There is a certain level of expectation in anything higher than 15-16s.

That being said, I'd say I became immune to such things years ago and tend to ignore most bad apples. My most recent adventure when it came to a bad apple was this one monk tank in a 12 Xenas (doing lower key to get a bonus roll on that omission of light ring) with 3.8k rating. Anything between 10-13s are general vault keys so expectations are pretty low when it comes to what kind of grouping you get in those keys so I'm very chill and tons of mistakes happen for the less knowledgeable of players out there so I don't care too much. Anyways, most people are 3.6k on their main in the group except for the healer who is barely 2.5k. Tank has zero consideration for the healer's skill level and just yolo pull left side with 2x seers, and about 1/3 of the room as a lust pull all while trying to speedrun far FAR ahead of the group as if he was in some kind of MDI tourney or something, you know the kind. Huge ego type who think they are the shit in mid to low level keys. Groups gets there with the healer following suit a few seconds later only to have a full group wipe due to the amount of caster AoE damage going on (Also barrels on the side when seers activate them didn't help). Healer said they were sorry and tank starts to flame the healer for not healing and ranting that this is standard pull on higher keys (No one goes for 2 seers in higher groups outside of MDI stuff) and tries to forfeit the key. No one abandons the key and the tank, not wanting a leaver tag, started going on a rant about all sorts of shit all while we kept on going with the key. Funny thing is the whole key went on pretty smoothly and the healer was fine while no one replied to the tanks shenanigans all while timing the thing with 7 minutes to spare. Tank insta left after bonus rolling. Me and the group told the healer it wasn't their fault and they did a great job AND that the tank was just an asshole.

That was one instance of shit behavior I've experienced lately and I've have gotten to see more over the years I've played but I almost always forget about them as there is normally nothing constructive about those.

What I will point out when it comes to roles and the subpar behavior in the pug scene (I want to point out this is based on personal experience):

Tanks: Either good or bad, those who talk shit to others almost always have the same mentality, they will belittle others and never take accountability for their own mistakes as if all they do is perfect and not to be questioned, you're just the thorn in their grand m plans. They also don't tend to be team players, ONLY focusing on themselves rather than the whole group. Yes tank has a lot of responsibilities but that doesn't make you the king and doesn't allow you to look down on others. "Main character syndrome" sums it up best for this particular lot of delinquents.

DPS: A little bit like the tank but with some extra. Not a one shot but still died to some overlap with your defensives available? Healer problem. Got something that can nullify a mechanic but don't use it which could definitely help the healer and the group as a whole? Healer problem. Not top DPS? Tank didn't pull around me or classic healer didn't give an external or something something. One missed interrupt? Other DPS should have done it, I'm on my CDs. Never their fault, don't use any of their toolkit options or uses them in a poor way. Has way too high of expectations that everyone SHOULD play perfectly to their level. Also honorable mention to those who pull extra for the tank and wipe the group just because "MDI can do it, so can you" or some non-sense like that.

Healers: Based on experience, I very rarely see healers being the problematic when it comes to shit behavior. It almost always tends to be either tank or dps. This doesn't make healer immune from being assholes, I've seen some be dicks but they don't really have a consistent behavior outside except just pointing out mistakes in a non constructive way or deciding they give less importance to that one person for no apparent reasons.

This is my unpopular opinion on the subject but, while I know not everyone has time to do everything in game nor the interest in doing so, I think that people should at least try all three roles at least long enough to understand what kind of crap that role has to deal with. Especially tanks and healers. DPS have it easier than the two others and tend to be the one role that is most plagued with shit behavior. Outside of roles, another shit behavior even before you get into keys? Meta slavers that don't take people based on their skills but their class but that's another topic.

(I have a certain hatred for most aug voker players. Bad experiences in the past with a ton of them being carried not by their skill but class. Damn spec is soo polarized. Either god tier or back into the dumpster. You can't change my mind about that one.)

hugofreitas6799: The Main thing IS toxicity only affect ppl that let It. If you have self steem you dont Care and move on. Sometimes you fuck up, you know, They know, life Goes on, Trie tô not fuck up Again, remenbering Someone Go apeshit because you missed a mech, can make you not fail It Again out of pure spite

RNS_Aurelius: I'd rather be called out on mistakes and have anything i don't understand explained than my group just attempt to carry me. Insults on the other hand are juvenile and I don't engage with the people throwing their toys out the pram when something goes wrong. Most players are adults or at least in their late teens and some really need to learn to act like it.

dark83194: I met this really rude player in cata who kind of gave away the exact method needed to get all the best items and gold farms. He was rude but I couldn’t be happier.

sharonpace1693: you've been nailing the vids, big fella. I consider myself a fraud in M , im only 3550, but am proud of my score. When i see peeps who are climbing into the higher keys get flamed, i've been saying something similiar, analyze the actions, not the reactions. I try to keep their spirits up, cause I want more peeps playing. GG Bogs, GG.

JackBagdadi: If we all used defensives in keys as much as we do against constructive criticism, there would be less criticism
