MichaelMartin-jt9iv: I cant wait for Guzu, savix and soda to watch this on stream while splashing
DasDeutschbag: The freedom that I feel in deciding what I want to do that day in runescape is something I've never been able to replicate in other games and it's what keeps me coming back no matter what other game I try
JohnFromAccounting: Today I made about 10,000 potions and then killed Scorpia a few times. Tomorrow, I might do something totally different. I love this game.
statick160: I think that a large part of Runescape is that you never feel like you fell behind and can't catch up, you'll never miss out on anything by being too late.
You can always continue from where you left off and even if things changed, it will have been minor or advantageous, but the goalposts never moved.
critical3337: its amazing that so many people are having fun playing osrs for the first time because of nostalgia
Gengarlegend: I think part of what makes the game have the staying power it does is the fact that the carrot dangled infront of you and moved once you get close to it is significantly less than in other mmos. If you asked the average OSRS player what the best ranged weapon was in the game, the average player is going to respond "twisted bow". The twisted bow came out EIGHT YEARS AGO. How many mmo's will have one weapon stay relevant, competitive in bossing setups, and best in slot for many situations for eight years? You could have got a tbow when it was released, took a break for 8 years to get a doctorate degree, come back and the progress you made is still highly relevant. Compared to many mmos where if a new patch releases that all the work they put in to get gear they earned is effectively made worthless. I just don't see other games with the same sense of not pulling the rug out from players every few months to a year.
SirZotolo: Didn’t expect to get a philosophical lesson from this channel but here we are
Vaelin94: 9Rain quoting the Bible was not on my bingo list. Amen, brother! Great video, a true love letter to the game we all grew up with.
Edzter: say it with me: Permenance of progression
lucbourgeois6219: dont really have anyone to share it with but i just hit 2k on my GIM after the starting an account with the boys around covid time ( im the only one that still plays regularly) its been the most rewarding "grind" out of any game ive ever played.
Everything that happens or that you do has a slight change in the path you take your account through and i love that.
VentesPlays: No other game gets me up out of my chair in excitement. An unexpected Pet drop? I’m on cloud nine. I beat the Colosseum last night and I screamed and ran through the house to hug my gf. “It’s a collection log! Gimme!” I’m smiling.
I love this stupid game
Frybones: While I've played Runescape on and off for years, I've only ever just gotten my first ever fire cape a week ago, and it really was just such a high to finally feel confident to boss. I hope the wow streamers and players who are coming to OSRS feel accomplished when setting goals and seeing them through.
yellowraincoat.: OSRS truly suffers from a 'first glance' problem because of the graphics. You know that meme of the guy mining and then stopping right before the diamonds? That's OSRS. That first jump into the game from other MMO streamers IS that final swing of the rune pickaxe to unveil those diamonds and so many people are understanding it's not just click and wait simulator... for the most part, but an evergreen, true to definition MMO that respects you no matter what kind of player you are.
GreedyRadish: Honestly, even if I never made it out of Lumbridge I’d still love this game. There’s just something special about chopping trees and killing goblins with Autumn Voyage playing in the background.
It can’t be beat.
nunyabiness181: The main difference between OSRS and every other game is that progress isn’t lost. It’s permanent and meaningful.
LikeTheSauce: You know, I was just talking about this recently.
World of Warcraft players, including streamers that are currently playing this game right now said that they would never play a game like RuneScape and now that World of Warcraft is a dark sample of the game that it used to be the ones dreaded pixelated. MMO is now becoming the top dog and I think that’s in part to the old school RuneScape development teams commitment to making updates that actually matter and how passionate content graders have been since 2013 about this game.
Really solid video
PharaohofAtlantis: WoW and Runescape player here.
People talk about how "In Runescape you always keep your progress" and that in WoW "your stuff is invalidated next patch". And that's generally very true. But things I've accomplished in both games still mean a lot to me, even if the effort and time in WoW is harder to see than someone with a Quest Cape.
It's cool to see a video about this "migration" stuff that doesn't have a "lmao WoW sucks and isn't an MMO" thesis in there somewhere. Both games are played for different reasons; certain people put more value on different types of play and that's fine. We don't need to beat up on others for doing things different and enjoying the 100% on 100% off seasonal style that Retail WoW currently is. It's cool to see people I like in one game (generally. I'm a retail player but follow Classic through a few streamers) play and like another game I really like! And I hate seeing people put something else they don't like down. Thanks for not doing that 9Rain.
Adamantium93: You know what I never see people talk about with WoW? Richard Bartle's player types. Bartle was a game researcher who created the first MUD (multi-user dungeon, the precurser to MMOs [Runscape began as a game called "Devious MUD"]). In 2009, he created the theory that 4 types of people play MUDs: Explorers, Socializers, Achievers, and Killers. He said that a healthy mmo is one which provides ample and satisfying content for all these categories of play.
Explorers want to find new areas, experience novel stories, and discover secrets. Socializers want to be with people, both friends and strangers, and play as a social activity. Achievers want to reach the top, clear challenging content, and get visible marks of their achievement. Killers want to defeat other players and enjoy things like ganking and luring.
Each person has aspects of each type, but will trend more towards one or the other. A good mmo supports content that hits every one of these types. But retail WoW only really has enjoyable content for Achievers. Raids? Achiever focused. Mythic ? Achiever focused. Arena? Achiever focused. The content for the other three types is either perfunctory or has been neglected to the point of withering. If you don't like endgame, challenging, instanced, group content, there is nothing else to do in WoW.
Damekage: This video is incredibly well put together and really does explain why when I quit WoW I came back to OSRS and have been playing it since.
TheSykret: Damnit 9Rain... I didnt expect to end this video in my feelings... but by Guthix I am. lmfao
Glenn_Moore: This video made me want to log into RuneScape again
The007lord1: Do love RS was killed by trying to become wow and now all the wow players are coming to the version that wasn't trying to be wow lol
Xhomer367: Last week I finally got to the stats needed to do Sins of the Father on my Ironman, my most HATED quest on my main 3 years ago because for me that was my first “real” boss fight that I actually struggled with. Took me like 10 tries, I had to barrow a Karol’s top and bottom from a friend, and I had to spend money on brews to even survive and I just went and trained all my melees to 80 for this quest alone.
Got to the quest on my iron and only took 2 tries this time, had all the gear I knew I’d need now, only used karombwans and monk fish for food, and all I had was 70-75 for me melee’s. I genuinely felt really good about that as some proof that I was actually way better at the game than I was 3 years ago. Now I only have like 6-8 quests left till quest cape and I’m pretty excited to be close to the end of the goal I set out when I made my Ironman. I freaking love this game man.
kanggvng: I never played RS back in the day and I’m just as hopelessly addicted as the rest of you
DoctrineAudit: "Human beings at their most fundamental level are goal driven creatures."
Modern games suck because Devs sell you the goal
