The Next Step for Hardcore WoW Is Going to be INSANE World of Warcraft

MysticT: The best thing about Hardcore is how alive the world felt in mid-level zones. Since people kept dying, they kept rerolling and there were always players around.

fankrys: Just make a hardcore TBC server, blizzard. Players know the challenge would be insane. If someone mess up a cube in magtheridon, raid wipe. If someone too close to you on gruul during the shatter, insta death. You can watch helplessly your character die on the 2nd boss of shadow labs during the mass MC. Speaking of dungeons, group can easily wipe on any trash pack of any heroic dungeons. The challenge is insane.but if people want it, make the server.

ptbear78: I think this is worth doing purely to watch a few insane guilds try to progress through the raids.

Chisegh: Minor correction: Road to Ragnaros was pre official hardcore, it was the first attempt at hardcore raiding when Season of Mastery launched. The guild that killed Ragnaros during Road to Ragnaros was HC Elite (and another guild, I think they were called Eternal? shortly after).

Frontier was the first guild to kill Ragnaros on official hardcore servers (though there is some overlap of players that were in both).

gname6891: I played TBC Hardcore back when it was still community-made (Road To Ragnaros / Road to Kharazan) and unfortunately the TBC character and talent scaling means it is an absolute walk in the park from level 1-60. You face no real danger.

Most elite mobs are switched to regular mobs, the talents are better and turn on earlier, item scaling and general power level is up.

I have had about 1/2 near death experience on TBC characters from 1-60, as opposed to 10 in Classic. And I'm by no means good

Unfortunately, I also played WOTLK, and the same happens. No real danger until 1-70 ( which is veeeery long even with the XP squish ) and then so many dangers.

idontknowwhydoineedtohavethis: Once you reach lvl 60 or 58 there should be a check point. If you die in outland you start again with your character at 58 and go again. Thats my way of thinking

fankrys: another point i'd like to emphasize. TBC class design makes classes actually fun to play and level with. I realize that playing the epoch private server, a vanilla server with TBC classes and talent. This is very important to me. Having fun with my class, smoothing out the kinks, make it play like a well oil machine. Simple change like being able to freze trap in combat to manage a bad pull, having taunt and mana regen on paladin, devastate replacing sunder and doing some damage, mangle for feral etc... classes have to be fun to encourage people to go again and again.

And as you mentioned, lower XP requirement to level, more soloable quests and better quest reward make the "go again" mindset far more likely. I would even bring a permanent joyful journey on hardcore server only, at least in azeroth, to encourage people to keep going and keep trying.

ncwordman: With all due respect to Queen: I want Hardcore TBC. And I want it now! Hardcore players need it. We may not be prepared, but we want it. Give us the challenge, and we'll accept it; don't, and we'll take it anyway. (What the dog doin'?) hehe

R_a_X: I know TBC is on the tip of everyone's tongue right now, but man I miss fresh vanilla launches. I hope we get new vanilla servers more than once every 3 years.

insu_na: Blizzard could make TBC hardcore easier to implement by expanding their addon API so that addons can query about other players things like "HasTraded" "HasDied" "HasBeenInGroupOrRaid", etc etc.

This would make it infinitely easier for the addon developers to create a TBC hardcore addon and ensure that players neither cheat/lie as well as allow you to stick with players of your chosen ruleset

Greenlaw77: TBC Hardcore servers should include creating characters at level 58 with modest level 58 gear. These characters should not be able to transfer servers at all even if they die. That would excite the community to do TBC runs more. I personally will never play hardcore. But I think that would get alot of the community excited.

gameharmony8775: Bit of a lesser-known anecdote of history here as well for any longtime HC veterans: HC Elite was the alliance guild to raid on Bloodsail Buccaneers, but there was actually a horde guild that raided as well - Blood and Thunder. They didn’t have the big name streamers that the alliance side did, so it never got quite the publicity, but they cleared the first 3 bosses in MC and got much of the way through ZG as a guild. Was an awesome time to be enjoying and playing the game!
