The History of World of Warcraft Private Servers

Veishan: NOT THE CHRIS CHAN COMPREHENSIVE HISTORY OP

jojothepro15: Hanging around in private servers during TBC and WOTLK because I couldn't afford the boxes the subscription was truly a life saver for me, I likely wouldn't have fell in love with WoW if it wasn't for them.

neugassh3570: you have no idea how many huge private servers were in europe even before cata

tokeshed: Was not expecting that Chris Chan opener

DallasLangdon: When Brack said "vanilla" back when the announcement came out, my uncle was still alive and we rejoiced and I literally cried. My uncle died a year ago last June and he's the one that got me into the game back in 2005. I am now 31, almost 32. He played with me for years up until he passed.

This game is much more than just a game. It is a time capsule of memories, love, hate, sweat, blood and tears. All the people we've met throughout the years, some people got married, some divorces (i witnessed one live in 2019). I'm still friends with this couple that had a little boy when we first met in WOTLK. Now he's a grown man and I got to watch him grow up and stay friends with these people because of this game.

blizzard has a chance to do the greatest thing ever with classic

and that's to capture the first time playing experience that we all had back in the early 2000's.

astridlory3982: 0:57 this will never be forgotten, “you think you do but you dont”

u3pyg: Good to see that "Do me a solid" was present even 22 years ago...

gpturismo: WoW is that ex-girlfriend you have fond memories of, but she went off the rails in conspiracy theories then drugs and you're watching her just wreck her life. You still care for her and hope she gets her stuff together, but it's not looking so good.

FruitSmax: RIP Dalaran-WoW

RulerOfMiscellania: 28:30 classic ragebait by MadSeason

makingadjustments: 0:28 bro the chris chan reference is incredible

anwaralexander3035: I never touched Private servers until the end of Shadowlands. Took a break from WoW and saw a recommendation about Turtle WoW. My God, what a lovely 3 year experience. So thankful that I made the jump and though it's over, it was the best experience I've had since original Vanilla to Wotlk.

RIP Turtle WoW, RIP Original Vanilla to Wotlk times.

d.optional: Did i miss it or was Molten not even mentioned at all? They were a huge player in the private server scene from like 2010-2015, when they turned into warmane (i think). I never played any of their pve realms but i remember they had a very shady reputation and there was always talk of them offering paid services beyond what was visible in the cash shop and manipulating things in certain people's favour.

Also as an honorable mention, arena-tournament needs to be highlighted as THE definitive wotlk and also tbc arena focused servers with instant maxlevel and gearvendors.

They had a few massive population peaks for a pure arena server, especially early on around 2011-2012 and kept a stable population throughout that allowed for fast queues. Many wow pvp legends played or made their name on arena-tournament, the competition was extremely high. For many years it was a pvpers dream and i kept playing on it on and off. If i remember correctly, at some point they came under the molten umbrella and eventually became warmane's Blackrock realm, that probably still exists today.

Nick-4K: As a middle school kid who's parents would never pay 15 bucks a month for a game. Private servers were the goat.

XentheTek: Once Ascension is shut down I doubt ill ever come back to wow again. Blizz will half-ass classic again, give us shit and call it icecream

velho6298: I have very fond memories in middle school (circa 2006) we put together private server in our lan events to play and goof around. Mod speed to jump from hyjal to darnassus, custom bosses in our image, etc. Super fun. I think that is the reason why I am software engineer nowadays

JM-mg4el: I subbed for your osrs series but honestly every video you release is a joy to watch

emanuel81111: Not gonna lie, those rings look absolutely DOPE.

honestfan420: I know you’re not actively playing but it’s always great to see a wow/classic video from you

MajoraOra64: Man I remember first discovering Ascension so many years ago and being absolutely in love with the OG classless design. Making all sorts of nutty builds. Amazing how much more money Blizz could make if they just listened to consumers.

gibble1: 1:56 ngl i wasnt expecting the chris chan. nobody is ever prepared to see chris chan out of nowhere.

Kilometers_KPH: A Geno Samuel Chris Chan Documentary opening parody on a WoW video

I dont think anybody was expecting that

TurboV8boi: 8:50 omg man

crow_buddy: 0:36: That's Greg Kasavin from Supergiant Games (Bastion, Transistor, Hades)

StudioChrome: TURTLE WOW FOREVER

alexanderc2334: the opening music giving me PTSD flashbacks

olddirty4163: Lvl 17 hunter - never forget
