Ranking Every WoW Expansion by the Features They Added

itinerantscott: Mists of Pandaria (5.0.4 pre-patch) added AoE looting.

summakore: nice thumbnail

DIEGhostfish: BC added dungeon stones actually summoning.

SpookyStu: The Buffdor thumbnail lured me in.

andromidius: TBC also added Haste, Expertise, Resilience and Spell Penetration as stats on gear - as well as revamping Hit, Crit, Dodge and Parry into rating rather then a fixed percentage. Absolutely massive change to how the game works. Also revamped Raid size to 25 man, which is a massive change that lasted a long time.

Krys1543: Shadowlands also introduced the Catalyst and I think that's been one of my favorite additions. Not only for making tier sets easier to get for progression, but also for unlocking the transmog for each class. And with subsequent expansions allowing you to upgrade pieces to unlock higher difficulty variants, it makes it really easy to get any class's tier set appearance.

arc7818: It's interesting to see how far the game has come over the years. I've taken for granted that we have most of these features, but, of course, we didn't used to. Hard to believe.

SubxZeroGamer: Scenarios are a huge deal because basically every questline uses them at some point now lol. We don't queue up for them anymore but there's tooooons of scenarios. Delves are basically the grandchildren of Scenarios

Atratzu: Up until Cata I thought Crendor might just put everything into S tier. Lol

posthuman84: I think the barbershop definitely deserves a mention! Added in Wrath. Other than that, solid list

eohcyt2996: cheesements were huge.

ETA: I wonder if anyone knows how many features they’re copying from SWTOR.

NotTheWheel: Funny, I just noticed after Legion they stopped using those circular portrait designs for expansions.

LooseCo: For me Dragonflight is at the top hands down for no other reason than it introduced Skyriding. Absolutely knocked it out of the park, I have not touched a flight point since 2022. TWW comes in second cause I'm almost exclusively a solo player and Delves were a fantastic addition

ilovehobos02: I really like how quests have improved over time.

BC’s Daily Quests improved upon Vanilla’s Repeatable Quests.

Wrath gave us Weekly Quests.

Cataclysm cleaned up some of Vanilla’s quests.

Mists gave us orange Legendary Quests.

WoD gave us Bonus Objectives.

Legion’s World Quests improved upon Daily Quests.

BfA gave us War Campaign Quests, which by Shadowlands became Campaign Quests. This has made it clear which quests are for the main storyline.

Dragonflight gave us purple Feature & System Quests.

War Within gave us Story Mode Quests.

There are better Catch-up Quests than there used to be as well.

I’ve enjoyed watching improvements to quest design in this game for a long time. It has variety and flows more smoothly than ever before. I hope it continues.

charmingtrainer: Legion also had the mage tower, BFA's version with horrific visions too, and Torghast in shadowlands. Though I guess those were like major patch features except torghast

Zazeros1: I really like your videos, and I'd like to suggest something. When you're talking about new zones or features, like flying and stuff, could you show clips of those things happening? It would be really cool!

FreddyNash: MoP (retail) also changed gathering so anyone could get a node rather than just one.

He also laughed at HalfHill but that was the Alpha to Garrisons & Garrisons were the Alpha to Player Housing

crane8819: LFR always got a ton of hate but I liked it. When I played WoW I was primarily a solo player and never really had any desire to join a guild and have to adhere to a raid schedule or anything like that. All I wanted to do was run through a raid for quests and story and LFR let me do that. Thanks to LFR I got to see a lot of content I otherwise never would have.

I guess I was an odd fit for an MMORPG because I played WoW because I loved the lore and exploring the world not because I wanted to share in the glory of taking down difficult bosses with others.

Kevkoss: WoD added mythic raid difficulty along with flexible groups for lower difficulties in prepatch. So 2 things that are still staying strong.

MoP also had scenarios and challenge mode dungeons - scenarios were mostly abandoned, mainly used in solo and campaign content, but challenge dungeons evolved into M

SL added Catalyst, which is imo good feature.

smallpandochka: Midnight introduced flex mythic raid bosses

jordanread5829: Can never forgive TBC for giving us daily quests :P Especially a certain faction.

magnusvir8: seeing this tier list was interesting. i havent really played the game since BFA. i like to see how the game changes and evolves even without me there anymore.

aninparadx: What I love about your content is that you have such an unique and wondeful perspective on WoW. You play the game how you want and not how the game wants you to play it. Love your content and keep on doing it I love it

Manamuffins: 5:50 We absolutely have scenarios still, they just arent things you que up for, all those lil "events" with a bunch of step-by-step goals are scenarios.

359Aides: It's interesting, Legion hit so much differently for me.

I didn't care for M , world quest I actively hated, artifact weapons I found questionable lorewise and horrible gameplay / grind wise, didn't care much for order halls and didn't like DHs (until devourer now).

For me Legion would have been C or even D tier (in big part because I hated the whole world quest system which made it S tier for you)

Drako999x: I really did love the little farm you had in MoP. It's just a little sad, you basically only used the stuff for cooking ^^'

But I also really liked the garrison in WoD, so maybe I'm not the most reliable person on that XD

Actually I really miss one of those things in the newer expansions. Something like the class hall or something alike. I even liked Torghast...

Also bring back archeology!! qwq

halfhero: I fucking love housing so god damn much, the way it has fostered creative expression in players is unparalleled, which is really saying something in a game thats been live this long. Housing alone puts midnight in S for me, but i have also just enjoyed the expansion across the board.
