Maxs Thoughts On Parsing In World of Warcraft

Luthies: for healers the only logs that matter are the damage logs

czekskii: I quite enjoyed 150 pulls on Crown because of P1 greeders.

gruncleiroh5525: 100% yes. My guild wiped so long on Lura because no one would swap to an ad that didnt get knocked in because thats no good for their parse. We wipe every week on Chimerus because everyone runs over everyone else to get to the ads and we blow up.

luminanza309: I play a fun little game sometimes called “spot the raid leader”, because it’s usually quite obvious looking at the parses

kobeyaschi7532: Beloren cheese pugs was a wild experience. Told to stop dps on boss so we could kill adds.

People would then flame people for doing bad damage.

Maybe I'm wrong but isn't downing the boss more important than the parse?

jourfriend: I as a healer Play only for the DMG parse. As Long as i have the Most hps in my guild and no one dies, the 99 DMG parse is the only Thing i Care about

Slashresto: Parsing has killed more guilds then anything else in wow, including blizzard.

Parsing in of itself imo is bad unless ur in the top 50-100 range and aspire to improve further.

Just look at Classic as a great example, 99% of players are parse maxing 24/7 and it's created a super bad enviorment where only like the top 10 guilds and GDKPs and a few casual guilds manages to stick together.

As a great example i was in a top 5 classic guild during cata in their 2nd/alt roster and even there people cared so much about parsing that players were beeing kicked for not parsing 95% on every boss.

Ive been mainly on Pservers the last 10 years and its been a blessing compared to retail/classic , the attitude players have is so much better. You still get parsing andys but most people just want to challange themselfs and play better and have clean raids > sloppy parsing raids.

Willowberryuwu: Parses are my reason for playing the game. I enjoy chasing the leaderboard and I've hit rank 1 on my spec playing in a world 800 guild. I don't care about racing to end that content as fast as possible.

Without parses the only thing to chase would be killing the boss... which is a given. Parses give me a self-goal beyond the obvious that is just clearing the raid which all of us will eventually do.

dirtymightmusic5239: Having good logs is super useful outside of guilds if you wanna pug.

My guild is pretty casual and only does HC raids so if I wanna do a couple of mythic bosses I always have to pug those.

Got into CE only groups for Chimaerus eventho I have never really pulled the boss yet because my HC logs are almost all 98-99s

Ixxlostinabox: I care about my parses on a personal level as a metric to track my performance over time, mainly to make sure I am consistent and improving in areas that need to be improved. As I get more gear my parse should go up, if it goes down I know I need to look at why.

The bit that frustrates me about parses are the people who actively ignore mechanics because it would be a DPS loss. No one cares if you get a 95 parse if you kill 3 people on your way there.

Also healers who sit in heal spec but hunt for 99 damage parses should be incarcerated because we all know only a psychopath would do something like that.

depressedpacito7024: My guild got HOF this xpac after being US 400 .

A big change the group made was looking at logs of other kills and to study what people do in their kills and adjust accordingly

wdeqwdas: Guilds: we want you to parse 100

Also guilds: we want you to do mechanics

fresh1714: I tend to raid in lower end mythic guilds (ones that struggle to get CE ever) but I feel I’m of a CE caliber players personally. I’d rather raid in a guild tho that is more laid back because I just tend to perform better so slightly worse guilds tend to have the better vibes. Personally I like to parse chase (usually on Reclear) because it’s the only thing keeping me motivated to play since I tend to be done with prog way faster than the other players in my guild

Osprey1994: All I know, is that when I was mythic raiding, I would land middle of the pack with blue parses, and be the person who was alive 99% of the time. I will do as much damage as I can while focusing on mechs, if I have to sac damage for completing a mech I will. Then the goal is to look at things and see where I could be more efficient with casts, positioning, etc.

Buhlockehhh: Pad demons rise up Amen

bilbobaggins7095: A guy in my guild wipes us if he is having a bad pull

ProxterZ: When i get into a guild i will tell the raid leader im parse focused, but that he will not see me fail my assigned mechanics, but that id rather do good dmg than mechanics, so if i can be assigned.

On the guilds ive been, im generally always top of the dps meter even if my class is good or bad and the one with least deaths or fuck ups, to the point where people HAD to comment and were surprised when it happened (this was 100% motivation to keep fuck ups to a min).

I only got tilted whenever multiple priests decided to PI me and fucked my log.

IF you want to parse, dont fuck up and there will be no issues :^)

xaxzer4117: Some parsers are obsessed and will int because of it but it’s rarer than people say. It’s a fact that basically every good player is/was obsessed with parsed at one point. When I climbed from WR 1k to HOF in two tiers I loved to parse, but I’d still always focus on mechs. It’s just pretty rare that you can’t do both

ACEYGAMES: I want to defend tanks who want to parse well. As one, there's nothign else for me to do. I can't taunt the boss more, I can't move better, I can't do more of the dps's or healers mechanics then I already am so either im just sitting there bored or working on doing my rotation a lil bit better. Also bigger number more funner. The only time tank parsing leads to badness is if the other tank does so much less dmg it fks up agro.

Which happens sometimes, I did runs on mythic chim with a blood tank who was doing 20k dps overall, being beaten by a disc priest. After one pull of weirdness we adjusted and agro wasn't a problem.

ishne23: Well im sorry im not playing with grey parsers lol

yutaxyz: As a new player since midnight I like logging (especially in mythic ) to compare my dps to players with similar gear to figure out if I am playing my class mostly correct, I am focused on getting the key in-time and not just raw pumping dps but looking at the logs afterwards and seeing what I can improve and how close my dps was to the top players helps me improve I feel.

hay20579: I was grey parsing as unholy in raid until I realized you have to rp dump throughout the entirety of DT. That was nice to find out

LunaNovaXIV: Problem is private logging doesn't actually solve the issues surrounding players who are motivated by parsing to the detriment of all else. What matters is leadership and enforcement surrounding that. I used to raid in a bottom 1k guild (they were part of the Dimensius Race to World Last) who private logged and parse culture and the negatives surrounding it still existed because everyone still had access to logs anyways, even if they didn't log themselves.

This sort of discussion always comes back to leadership, it doesn't really matter if you do X or Y thing top guild does if the people in charge don't know or understand why/how X or Y thing actually gets used at a top level

Flau-h4b: Why is tank parses a red flag? I don’t understand why I wouldn’t want to be doing as much damage as I could and not be dying.

Real_Gron: once our guild starts focusing in parsing i quit the season

IanStrain23328: Yeah I only care about parsing once my guild has the boss fully on farm, i just wanna kill the boss and move onto the next while progging

bosssavage3325: Performing mechanics correctly should be 25% of a parse.
