prestencederien: And here i am,watching the chat, and there are 3 guys flooding the chat saying this takes too long, they dont understand, can they just sum it up in 1 sentence. While literally watching an interview. Self-centered and with the attention span of a toddler. That's why we can't have nice things. Cause ppl like that actually have opinions and their opinions matter.
TheInkyBlackDot: Can I just say that it's nice to see Ion has come such a long way since the beginning, and the amount of growth he's had to go through. It was a very thoughtful presentation.
SweGamingNoobs: I fucking live in this city (Malmö, Sweden).
I had no idea there was a video game conference... There's been ZERO marketing about this here. What the hell.
OriginalVoiceBox: I love Ion. Hes not a perfect man, but he cares about WoW and he cares about Blizzard.
TheAdventuresOfAdam: No link to the original video?
netrimo589: you can find the original video on a wowhead article called 20 years of warcraft: meeting players where they are. It's in the middle of an unlisted video from Nordic Game convention
SuperduperGamer1: becoming a really big fan of blizzard being honest and straight up recently excited to see where retail and classic goes
MTweedC4: Where can i watch the original??
wellandy: Super Smash Brothers Melee has had 0 balance patches since it launched. the meta still shifts and changes slightly to this day. crazy
nimck-y2z: I think the true difficulty is things get figured out, then get boring, then people want something else, and the cycle repeats.
gollese: The dude in xaryu's chat pointing out how much he hates retails talent tree's, it's so good. You can even swap around if you want, the old tree's you stuck to 1 tree, MAYBE swapped out 1 talent every now and then. The road they have been taking now is good, hero talents.
sunnygo8469: They removed meta from warlocks then gave it to DH. Never forget.
kafgark: Last week, i joined a 7 with my Survival Hunter. An arcane mage was complaining about me because i was survival hunter, one of the worsts dps in 11.1.5. But he didn't left, he kept telling the group that if we didn't timed, it was bc of me. All this before the dungeon even started.
At the end of the dungeon, he finishes with 2.3M dps overall, solid player. He did everything right about mechanics, interrupts, etc. (i just play the game, i don't know what are the damage numbers for each spec).
I ended with 2.7M dps overall. Beating him at single target and most of the AoE situations.
He said sorry and also said that he's never watching tier list videos again. (i doubt it).
nickh4354: Xaryu, life choices are much different than developing an MMO for millions of players
paneoce: can you post a link to the original video?
Fotumain13: The problem with the deep freeze argument is that it wasn't removed because of bloat. it was removed because it was an impossible spell to tune correctly for PvP. Much like Holy Paladins glimmer, those spells were holding the classes back.
uyhawirt: this made me realize we truly are a chaotic creature
ABetterCoalition: Honestly, I have blamed Ion for the down slide of WoW and the MMO experience on WoW for a very long time, ever since I watched the documentary they did for WoD and he explained what he contributed towards, which I think was Group Finder or something. He's been stubborn about his bad ideas for a long time and he's finally admitting he's had bad ideas and allowing new ideas to come in and WoW retail is starting to look better and better. It's about time.
seifyk: On vocal minorities: Players are great at telling that there is a problem, but they are terrible at solving that problem.
SPRSCRTDINOCLUB: someone asked in chat "assmangold game director when?" that would be a HORRIBLE idea wtf haha
yournamethere123: Gained a lot of respect for Ian. As this is the most I’ve ever heard him speak before, I was utterly surprised how in tune he is with the game and its community. Haven’t played “seriously” in nearly 8 years but I follow the game because a part of me will always belong to Azeroth. I really hope I find a reason to come back for more than just the story and seeing the new zones.
delsere7095: That slide with the win rates over time with no changes in Starcraft - wow! I like how Ion was able to pitch these ideas, then give really powerful visuals to support his case. You can disagree with some of his philosophies but overall, after watching this presentation I have much more respect for developers - and I had already respected them before.
The other thing that really resonated with me was when Ion pointed out how the business model of WoW is subscription based. Which implies that you not only need to keep your players happy, but do so in a sustainable manner. This is a really great model, because if I think of other games like Diablo 4 - I think about how much hype there was, there was a ton of advertising, then on release the game just felt rushed and unfinished. And in a sense, because there is no subscription model for Diablo and Blizzard had already taken in the initial game sales, what prospect is there for dedicating resources to continue developing the game if the only revenue is microtransactions and the occasional expansion pack? Its much easier for developers to abandon a project if it isn't on a subscription model, and so a subscription model is actually great for the consumer.
_Libosido: In theory, they could add into the game beside of few talents, new system, like increasing specific stats/substats (like in Diablo1)
Joparen: I remember playing FFXI Online a lot as a kid and what made that game so good was each class had a role. It was important to play that role. You had to be good at filling that role. I don't ever remember thinking so much about the damage I was doing in the large group content. I was Red Mage so it was important to support heals and do damage when I can. Also one of the best classes to dispel debuffs off. What was also so important was your subclass. As a Red mage I could sub Ninja and have dual wielding and ninja spells too. It was so fun! I miss that game so much. Gameplay wise it will always be superior to anything nowadays. The adventure and the struggle to achieve what you wanted to achieve while learning how to use your class the best way you could. FFXI was so different and rewarding. If you are past level 10 and die you lose EXP so dying was a big negative and if you didn't get a rez you had to run back from your home point. Treasures of Aht Uraghan brought in town PvE gameplay. You would be running throught the new city then it gets attacked by mobs and the try to overtake the city. It was soooooo good! It is so dated now but if that game got an update its all I would play. Truly had to be there to know.
Hulkaholic87: As an OG Mal'Ganis raider I remember thew days of EJ and Riot Act, the forums on EJ was where most of the info was at.
aimanalbalushi7920: such an enjoyable presentation from Ion fun react
