I Checked the Population of Every WoW Classic Version

vanyadolly: I'm looking forward to playing classic in the retirement home.

Don't know what Era servers you checked out, it's busier than that in my experience.

Ghotet: personally i wish classic stopped at WotLK rather then king fu panda. I'd probably go play it more if it did but, I play TBC or hardcore instead.

dra55555: Halp I can't stop playing hardcore

bsixkcmm: WE WILL NEVER STOP PLAYING! I LOVE THE GAME.

Xavire1603: I play in the tbc anniversary server and its crazy the amount of people there are, even if it was even busier the first weeks, the population decreased quite a bit, its still packed with so many players.

gressivekom: 13:14 tbf for Retail, a majority of players are usually populated in the endgame contents of Midnight, so while you won't find a lot of people in Stormwind or Orgrimmar (Well, technically servers realms are also something to be taken into consideration because you'll still find lots of people in Stormwind or Orgrimmer on RP realms compared to others) for example, you'll find loads of people in the new Silvermoon City as that is the new current hub for Midnight. This is also what kind of applies to MOP Classic as the main hubs are in Pandaria.

kobwmoose: You were on the wrong server on MoP, on the legacy servers. I can assure you people are playing on the right ones

osirys: Classic Era is the underground smash hit right now. The realm cluster combined has around 2k active players, which is like original Vanilla server population intended by Blizzard. This is the sweet spot: no layers, enough dungeon grouping, no over farmed outside resources.

SerVincentTheBlesser: They really need to just merge all the classic servers

sirlionheart4614: I play hardcore. our servers are healthy.

johnhavardvalebrokk6151: Era is indeed alive. The footage you showed there looks like the pyrewood village cluster, which is the server I play on there. I'm not overly active, but I do log in every now and then with a warrior that I've had since I felt the itch to play Era in 2023, my original 2019 characters are on MoP, which is my main game at the moment, and MoP is not as dead as shown. Go to the actual active servers like Hoptallus, Shek'zeer on Mirage raceway cluster and you'll see players. Not so much on the old 2019 servers, as there was this server merger that happened at the end of tier 14 to consolidate the smaller player base. And this should show people how alive Era is, cause that's what it looks like on an English PVE cluster. Just imagine how alive the firemaw cluster is. As a matter of fact, last I checked, Firemaw is on "medium" status instead of "low". But yeah, as evidenced by the video, the Pyrewood Village cluster is pretty clearly an "alliance majority" server, though I do see horde players sometimes, but not often.

TKCalocedrus28: You sure your MoP Classic character isn't on a Legacy server since you said it's from 2019. I occasionally go there and have a Hunter in Northrend and I'm surprised how many people are in Dalaran.

BarbaraPearson-h3p: bro, i have played since vanilla.... like when they added mauradon. i made my first classic toon last night and was amazed by the amount of people on. i havent seen random crowds like that since Ice crown. was on this morning looking for leveling strats, found your video, and have to agree. im only level 9 now, but i can already tell there is a lot of the "spirit" of the game and the players here in classic.

lunar3367: bro, were you in an ITV documentary about perscription drugs a few years back?! also nice to see wow classic content of any kind.

ThisisCitrus: You should see the Ascension CoA servers, it's insane.

jimofee: This was a great comparison video to see first hand how popular the servers are. I was genuinely surprised about mists of pandaria, as i expected more people in there too! Jaw dropping man. Wow, we are in the best server!

Megis4Life: You need to lvl upto 60 in HC if you never done it. As a new experience it seems like it's the way to go. The adrenaline you get is insane.

eternalboomer1990: All my classic servers are dead. :/

Omegalux: Jake, check out the PVP server on Classic Era, it is way WAYYYYYYY more populated.

derbudz: The Megaserver is the reason I stopped playing Classic Anniversary.

I second what you said about the game not being designed for that amount of players.

It's easy math really. The old realms/servers were designed to hold a maximum of ~2000 players online at the same time, that was increased to 2500 some time in original TBC. And these 2000 players were spread out all over the game world, dungeons, and raids.

Now the Megaserver works with layers, opening a new layer every time one is at max capacity. Which means that every zone, no matter where you go, will always at (or close to) that maximum amount of players, which leads to absolutely stupid waiting times for pretty much everything.

I'm not only talking about quest mobs/items alone, every node and herb gets camped permanently also. That's just not how the game is supposed to be.

The idea of layers is a good one in theory, and the reason behind them are crystal clear. Blizz will never have to merge any servers and therefor it will "always" be populated.

If only they would decrease the maximum amount of players per layer, that would help out a lot already.

But they don't care, and it seems like most players also don't really mind.

As much as it "hurts" me to say, if Classic will adapt the Megaserver Layer system 1:1 as it is right now in Anniversary, it will be a hard pass for me.

credimus6176: I dont think ill even play Classic unless it shows off its really worth it. Stick to classic era.

nicholascox6411: Anwser: it is never too late, classic is popping off !

CalvinBrownie: i played classic era on launch a few years ago and started playing again on whitemane again my first server and it feels like exatcly the same, i miss the 100 vs 100 in hillsbrad battles but its still popping.

Kephinio: I’ve recently come back and have pretty much exclusively been playing Classic Era. The only aspect about WoW I miss is that the story doesn’t progress, but that’s something I’m willing to stomach, given how cool the game feels, having to learn skills, learn professions etc.

Nightstalker314: SOD raiding population is sub 7k when it used to be above 200k. Visiting Orgrimmar on one layer doesn't tell you anything.

XanEros: Classic Era is awesome. Stormwind and Ironforge are busy every night, even Darnassus sometimes. I think a lot of us hope they will keep the level 60 cap and just add more content with no new core cities like Dalaran or Shattrath, keep the core hubs in Azeroth proper, balance some classes.

addisonwong2472: Getting back into WoW and not sure about what server to pick ? I want to try classic since the last time I played was leveling up a troll hunter to play shadowlands. Am I better off jumping into WoW Classic or TBC ?
