djflip23: In the Shimmering Flats and Tanaris there are two halves of a rocket car that looks like it's driving through the mountain between the zones. This is a reference to (another 1984 movie, what a year!) "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai in the 8th Dimension". A very strange but wonderful film and one of my favorites from that time.

johnwood6750: You might also have mentioned the multiple references to David Lynch's Dune (1984), including the Jom Gabbar trinket (AQ40), Ouro (AQ40) a straight up Sandworm from Dune, Bone worms in Outland (TBC) summoned with a “Fumper,” culminating in rewards that include Crysknives, and of course the The Sleeper Has Awakened quest in Ashenvale.

You missed a fun 80s movie reference, also done by Jim Henson. Inside the Deep Run Tram on the Ironforge side is a gnome named "Haggle". Some have seen him as a ref to the character Hoggle from "Labyrinth"
