This DX12 Update Changes SWTOR Forever

OutcastCantina: Well said my friend! Let's hope D12 finally fixes a lot of the graphical issues, it's pathetic at this point, Jedi Academy with Rend2 runs and looks better than SWTOR. :/

Sort of makes me wonder what this game will be like in the fans hands some day..

matteo_z: I need to explain something as someone that has studied rendering.

Swtor having a new renderer scares me, first of all it has nothing to do with new classes or world instancing. if you want this, you have to write code that makes this work (or int the case of classes, I don't think you even need to write anything), something that is easier said than done.

The engine is in itself a mess, that's because of updates that add stuff on top and a very, very, very apparent lack of refactoring on both bioware's and broadsword's side, this makes the game run at low framerates whenever something bad happens (it's also why you have fade to black that takes ages to go away, why you suddenly lag on completely random spots at random times, pop in meshes on ssds).

I wanted to make a technical video about swtor after finishing the inquisitor storyline, but I guess now is as good of a time as any. I'll start working on it.

VintasticGamingX: Actually I rather have class ships being replaced by our own armada or fleets Wich we can decorate ourselves

gamingnewsupdates: The biggest barrier for me is the subscription. the cost to content ratio, compared to buying the thousands of solid games on steam for $15 each month, i cant justify.

Better performance would be nice, and if they can retouch the worlds, add in ay more npcs, the environment changes (i was enraged seeing Korriban burning during the Revan arc), those would be worth coming back to. But man, i really think they need to look at the subscriptions.

ActionPackedFTW: This is good but the game is still in a terrible state. Everything in the game is dated and there's barely any new content each year, if any at all. We still can't even replay the clas stories.

The game running halfway decently doesn't really mean much if there's nothing to do and it's still full of janky/antiquated graphics, mechanics and systems.

mishainutr: I loved this game on release, but for some reason it cutted out war between empire and republic which was main selling point for me and main campaign...and then in next years they did everything possible to avoid that topic and story...it was so bizzare... like you had to do literally everything other then just fight these two factions...for no reason...

zecaburduada3728: Very well said. Man, I agree 110% with you. The space social hub, PvP with class ships, FP with class spaceship... All of that I never though. Thanks for the video and the insights. Hope the developers hear you and have the economic bandwidth to implement.

starwars_toy_box: Good points. Never thought about it this way. To your point about the class ship, Part of the problem that I see is that the ship was merely a means of travel that made navigating the game possible in its earlier days. It was never truly integrated into the "life" of a toon in the same way ships are in games like Star Trek Online. In games like those the ship and player character are virtually the same but as important to Star Wars as ship-to-ship battles are, it would be hard to see the developers do that at this stage outside of what they've already done in-game. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see it, but I'm not sure how feasible it is now.

Lotiondemhands: It means coming to console i know it after wizard 101 dropped on console they know they looked at the sucess of it if their competitor did it they will to

Blackdawn80: I'm looking forward to these much needed updates. Regarding a new class. I would say that the Smuggler/Agent class could use a Tank spec. It can be tech-driven as that would make sense considering the gameplay and current mechanics of each one of these variants. Different shields being deployed from a belt or gauntlet device. It's the only class that doesn't have a tank. Aside from that I don't think we need a new story aside from the current 8 we already have. I would even agree to a new playable race as long as it meets the "basic" language requirement and such.

nogz01: 03:43 Please do not use this sound crackling effect.

I'm an audio engineer and holy shit you have no idea the anxiety this gave me.

PharaohXIX1989: when does this dx12 come

Revenpsix2: ...and while it sounds like a boring technical update, it means I can't play the game I played for 15 years anymore, as my PC can't handle Win11.

StrongArmEntertainment: Still the same annoying tab target combat. I would love this game if it had guild wars 2 combat

optumis1433: I would love the idea of getting new combat styles to freshen up the gameplay. I would like to see a mandalorian rifleman with a blaster/sniper rifle or a trooper/agent with dual blaster pistols

flimreyals9674: The return of world PvP would be awesome ! Also some updates to the combat system animations etc would also be very nice maybe even a slight overhaul im not talking full on action combat like black desert but maybe something like ESO

bf720-v3j: Tbh if we get even paintjobs for the ships in the CM, Broadsword would make a decent amount of money from the sales, people are probably itching to customize their ships since 2011. Imagine having the option to cross from one planet to the next, and have a little open space area, where you can meet other players, see their modifications to their ships and such, have to option to voice chat if both allow, like we see in the game cutscenes or movies, even RP could increase with that, or even, with a decent performance overall, we could have the option of open pvp in space, how cool would that be.

ultrademigod: I think the issue with a new class is it would actually have to be two classes. One for each faction, and then 6 sub-classes for each of them.

Then they would have to create new skill trees, without just taking older classes abilities.

It would be much easier to add a new playable species with a proper large scale update

KorhaWB: I find it unrealistic that they would add a new class, but if they even did then it would feel dramatically different from existing classes, mainly in terms of story. They already made the player character borderline mute in the newer content the past couple years so imagine having a class that suddenly isnt fully voice acted like the rest

sergiol.aponte13: As a PvE solo layer, this seems a non issue. The only time I see that many players is at fleet, and we learn not to go there unless you have to. Thinking this will bring the masses back is weird. I love the game, been playing and subscribed since launch, yet do not expect this will have any impact at all.

hackintosh3899: Some help on DX 12. Just putting it on DX 12 will not drastically change things any more than leveraging something like DXVK which many have used for years on this game. That uses a Vulkan API backend and helped smooth out things quite a bit for solo play, leveling. You still had hitching, you still had fleet stutter and things still broke down when too many particles/spells are on screen. What you did not have was shader compilation stutter because it does it asynchronously. As an aside DXVK also DRASTICALLY helps Jedi Fallen Order which is a DX 11 game and stutter guides on Steam about the game will tell you that.

Now on to some EZ benefits and graphics improvements they could implement to help things quite a bit, besides rewriting everything which I highly doubt they will do, because at that point you might as well use a new engine. UI. This is a big deal. If you remove the UI or even prevent health bars from dynamically resizing, the game plays a lot smoother currently. If you open bags while moving you will get stutter. Moving this to a separate CPU core would be the easiest way to see big gains. Tessellation. Newer versions of DX have this. If you ever look at the sand on say Tatooine it is completely flat. Tessellation could allow for an easy upgrade of old assets and it could be optional.

Now for the biggest visual upgrade and something that could smooth out CPU performance on older hardware. DLSS, FSR 4 (framegen). This does not work with DX 9. If you want to see just how good this would look and you have an Nvidia GPU, use DLDSR in the driver and check both options. Then use a higher resolution in game to supersample it and turn off in game blurfest AA as DLDSR acts as a superior form of AA. This is AI assisted supersampling, but newer models like DLSS M that you can apply from the Nvidia look just as good without needing to supersample. The difference in visual clarity is pretty staggering, though with supersampling your UI in the game will be tiny and hard to read. When I last played I used 4k on 1440p and the game looked beautiful. This is the kind of AA that you will be able to leverage with DLSS/DLAA. FSR 4 is getting very close from AMD as well and even if there wasn't an official implementation people have figured out how to implement it from the driver level. See a channel like Ancientgameplays for that if you are on AMD.

Now do I have any faith in this team? That is another question and I don't see myself coming back unless the game went free to play, since everything cool is already monetized. The lack of new content, raids, classes, balance, pvp matchmaking, pushing away new players by letting premades farm people, lack of ranked means a 15 dollar sub fee is a joke when everything worth a darn is on the shop. This game having a sub fee while games like Guild Wars 2 don't is absurd.

Stop premades, make it F2P to get a much larger playerbase and do at least the minimal DX 12 improvements I laid out? Sure I would come back. I don't think they want players like me back though. They want date night, dress up barbie players and premades who farm new players with pay to win augs. They don't seem to have long term goals. They seem to have maintenance mode, milk the remaining playerbase dry with MT goals. I imagine DX 12 will be more about making the cash shop stuff look better and more animated crap with particles that makes the game run just as bad in pvp or when more than 5 people are on screen. They could cull or limit that stuff in BG's as particles spells absolutely destroy performance, but again I don't think they care.

I hope I am wrong and they have long term goals for the players. Anyways have fun in the game, just nothing for me there anymore. Don't feel like farming new players and making them quit in pvp. No ranked. Wpvp dead. Raid content and raiding is near non existent because why would anyone bother with the cool stuff on the ahouse.

CaspianShadow: If they added a new class what do you think they would add? I think maybe Outcast class (force user with blaster) who focus on debuffs/damage/healing. And renegade class (tech melee with shotgun) who focus on debuff/damage/dot

KeybladeMasterHarlock: Tbh i just want swtor 2. Or controller support, or a combat overhaul to modernise it abit more. I play wow, i play ffxiv, i play gears war, eso and star trek online and ive done 70% of swtor bug for some reason i struggle everytime rekearning skills and rotations and it always feels like i rotations dont exist and its just a button mash. For so long when i return and i dont knwo why lol

ridgefc7716: I was one of those Beta Testers and day one Subs... Illum PVP, 1 frame per 5 seconds. :)

1. DX12 was announced over 2 years ago or around the time the game moved to Broadsword. I question if the staff has the skill for this major overhaul.

2. Story Writing and Storytelling has been in the gutter for a very long time. You can argue this, however how many of us have replayed the original story a dozen times on each class. Delete the Character and do it all over again. Sure, a new class may be nice, but without great story telling, it's a dead class based on content.

3. DX12 has maybe a 50/50 shot at improving the number of objects on the screen. The Hero Engine itself is massively outdated and propriety. It should never have been used in the first place. WOW, can do the DX12 update, because they use their own engine and continued to update it.

4. The Game also died because no new RAIDS.

5. Look at Date night, they launched it, with 4 dead characters no one cares about. Give me Kira or give me death. Ok, some other cool ones too, but I am a Kira fan.

6. Say want you want about everything.... Raids help hold onto the guard.

7. SW Tie Fighter is in the GC Hall of Fame. Yank that game into SWOTR.

Ok, I will stop... but there is no 1 fix for SWTOR. SWTOR is my favorite game. It must start with a change of Management and Developers, that put gamers first.

DetrathBhodika: DX-12 will not make a significant difference to players; it will make it easier for dev's to spot and correct coding errors though and gain some efficiencies (but a player will not notice the difference). However, DX-12 is far superior graphically, but very little difference occurs in gameplay itself.

Evil0tto: I play for the story, but honestly one of the reasons I grow bored with the game is because of the gameplay. It's basically old-time World of Warcraft. A taskbar full of buttons, few of are much different than the other buttons on the taskbar. Oh good, my Sith Inquisitor has yet another power that zaps an enemy with lightning. And another. And another. Character tree abilities that are "Reduce cooldown of [FILL IN THE BLANK POWER] by .2 seconds" (I'm not making that up) or "Causes [FILL IN THE BLANK POWER] to have a 10% chance to cause [OTHER FILL IN THE BLANK POWER] to proc." Combat is staring at cooldowns.

MMO cliches like random trash mobs EVERYWHERE. Need to break into a facility? You'll kill 30 or 40 dumbasses just standing there milling about. And if you need to go back to the entrance you'll kill the same 30 or 40 respawned dumbasses. It's the same thing over and over again, and it gets so tiresome after a while. I'm to the point where I almost always pick stealth classes and just skip all of that so I can get to the enemies that matter.

WoW updated its combat extensively. Fights are much more dynamic, with pared-down powers and skill trees, all of which have much more effect and different uses depending on your needs. It feels like you're making choices that matter during a fight, even if it's against trash mobs.

PGCelaritas: UGG "SWEATER!" NOT SOTORE.. it's just upsetting to say and hear brah. Day one player, been saying Sweater ever since
