The Future Of RuneScape 3 Is Concerning

ProtoxxGaming: I don't agree it's as bad as you think content wise, but I do still agree with you. The "bigger" updates don't feel like they "last" long enough in between each other to keep me engaged.

pheonix2j: Remember RuneScape was more dark and serious with a sprinkle of British humor. Now it’s the reverse, but no one‘s laughing.

thorakvideos2495: RS3 leagues is the most exited I've felt about RS3 in years.

Although, it might be a huge flop with people not knowing how to use abilities.

OEx25: One of the most negative and toxic communities on the planet. This player base is so dumb and negative that they'll complain about "not enough content," but then also complain if it's quantity over quality. There's literally tens of thousands of hours of playable content in this game and they have a roadmap to release some good quality content throughout the roadmap. How many people complaining about "lack of content" even have Comp Cape, let alone Master Comp or even Master Trimmed Comp? When you pay for your monthly membership, you are immediately given access to literally 2 decades of content. It's not just all about what's being released next. If you've no-lifed your way to having the entire game completed, congrats! You're in the 0.001% of players and you can not expect a company to always cater specifically to you, nor can you expect them to keep up with your no-life play style. To everyone else, why are you even playing this game if you are just going to choose to be negative and bitch about everything, while still having a massive portion of the game available to complete?

jdev3002: Bro. You're part of the problem at this point. There's no winning.

MapleSyrup666: Chev you're being such a debby downer :P But I agree, 2025 isn't all too exciting until Amascut, then it's pretty much Leagues and wait it up until Havenhythe

CheekyJebus: Honestly I'm not even all that excited about Amascut after seeing what they did with gate and sanctum. I'm not a fan of this "tick perfect stand in this exact spot" gameplay they changed to. That is OSRS game mechanics and I don't find it very interesting for a laggy tick-based system game, having more flexibility to use your skills and dynamically adapt to the fight like with Zamorak was more engaging and less tedious. I quit earlier this year after "content" turned into nothing but broken promises, 110 skills, and holiday releases for more than a year, their subscription survey was the last straw for me after all the shameless price hikes and increasing of mtx instead of removing it like they teased.

mwithz: So I personally think the cadence of major content updates has been intentionally slowed down obviously since post Hero Pass but I think its healthy?

The reason why I say this is that EGWD was a great content time but it really messed up the whole pvm and skilling economies with all the inflation. Obviously MTX is also to blame but with how fast they were pumping out content with EGWD and then Necro release, it was massively shifting the game without thinking about the consequences.

Now we're at the point of having all these new skilling sinks with all the 110 updates, Skilling perks and other things because the raw amount of resources but even then Mod Breezy was dropping info that 90% of the onyx coming into the game is from Zammy and that's ridiculous.

At this point I think they've decided to add foundational content as the main focus. Things they can build on which has long term development since Hero Pass. Group Ironman, a mode to play with a whole bunch of your friends in a restricted manner. Combat Achievements, a new system that helps systemize combat progression. User Interface Sharing. Visual Restriction game features. Calendar Update. I would even say Leagues is foundational content.

Not to say 110s aren't foundational content but they're suppose to be consistent updates that are still improving the game but we as players remembering EGWD/Archaeology/Necromancy release will compare it to the frequency of those updates even though they aren't great foundational content but act as more of a showcase like content which is great for getting the game out there again to people who might have dropped off. Similar to how you described talking to your friends of what the latest update is.

Because we've been so use to constant big releases we don't really see the value of the smaller updates that OSRS folks are much more passionate about. For example before Yama released this month, their last big content release was the Royal Titans all the way in February and the stuff inbetween includes castle wars qol updates, easter event farming qol updates and other miscellaneous updates. Meanwhile for us on RS3 we at the rough same time frame have had Augmented Skilling items, Easter Event, Duck Quest, Desert Quest, 110 RC update and Combat Achievements in the same time frame.

I think another factor is that RS3 players have no reason to replay the game so we don't value all the smaller updates meanwhile every other osrs player has more than 1 account because their game has encouraged restricted accounts, limited gameplay accounts and a lot more via Leagues and other game modes. RS3 has only restarted doing that and as we will want to play more than one account again, we will start valuing all these smaller updates that nearly all the end game players normally don't care about.

Luckily RS3 Leagues is happening and so is the new continent. I would consider them both as Foundation Content where they can be built on and improved on over time and OSRS having done Leagues for 5 years is exactly the time frame of them gaining a massive spike of popularity corresponding to the growth.

InitYeah: I think there is quite a lot to consider here tbh. Since necromancy and hero pass the updates have been pretty meh. But also keep in mind the game was sold, and hero pass likely shaped a lot of upcoming content too (thank god it was removed).

We have had some great stuff like Sanctum / the gate etc. Which is end game (will get to that) but still very new and re shaped pvm kinda.

But Jagex shoot themselves in the foot kinda, by "spoiling us" (lmao hardly?) With weekly updates. For example, most MMOS will drop an expansion then bye bye cya in a year for the next expansion. This makes each release feel HUGE. Where as we get stuff trickled each week and bigger releases every month, which feel small because they are working on BIG projects in the background.

Imagine if jagex dropped nothing since necro, then dropped leagues, every skill 110, sanctum, the gate, weapon rebalancing, new spells, havenhythe, amascut, and tons more all at once. Suddenly we would think "holy shit so much content!"

As for end game focus atm. I feel like necro kinda failed in a sense. It made "end game" insanely fast to reach for the average player. Meaning a ton of players hit "wtf do I do now" very fast and I feel like jagex are playing catch up to make space for it. (Another problem that wouldn't happen if they dropped full expansions not just necro alone for example).

Anyways just my 2c, or more considering the size of the comment lmao.

umbrellacorpsecurity6511: RS is a game you 90% play on your phone in your pocket secretly at work to skip the grind

CabbageGod: The Elder God Wars was peak RuneScape 3. Necromancy was also great, but short lived in comparison because GWD3 felt like a many month long bout of excitement. The quests were my favorite of all time, and the bosses were insanely unique and all brought something new and fresh to RuneScape. It felt extremely clean and polished (mostly), unlike some updates from early RS3. This was the gold standard that Jagex should be keeping in the back of their mind while working on heavy hitting updates like Havenhythe. Necro was nearly 2 years ago. The Elder God Wars was nearly 4. Its been 2 years, and we still have a while to go before our next big hit. If Havenhythe does not hit this quota I will be extremely worried about the future of RuneScape.

JoFo-cl6ro: Imo RS3 was a finished game with the release of Zamorak. That was a great ending lorewise, as well as mechanically. Everything including and after the release of necromancy feels like it doesn't belong in this game. And I don't blame Jagex for this, I blame the players.

If players have put over 5,000 hrs into the game, and then complain that there is nothing left to do, maybe they could stop and think about how they've gotten their money's worth? Starting production on RS4 seems to be a much better option than continuing to add onto this game that was complete a long time ago.

ChunkYony: We need a Warlords of Draenor level cinematic with the content level of classic wow. We need the vibes to feel dramatic and badass, we literally need something that a 12 year old sees and they go, "oh shit that's badass". Hunting for chocolate rabbits, and riding a carrot isn't gonna attract any new players lmao.

doogleleafenthusiast: Tbh Ive been adressing that the new content is not what new players are looking for and that the early game is extremely frustrating, but the community is extremely toxic towards people that want changes for some reason.

SL420-: All of the content feels so heavily weighed toward the most extreme players. It feels like 90 pct of content is just a runway to get you to the stuff that matters. I think MTX makes it that way because you can just buy XP and anything that is less XP than it's worth it to buy is just a loss. Also membership is just so damn expensive.

Demonic-jr9qr: I used to play RS3 and I have no plans to return. I'm more interested in OSRS now. We're getting much more high quality updates on this game.

kennethjames6114: I think it’s your mindset. I don’t see any positive takes from you. The game is great, and posting videos like this as a content creator that people who have never played the game might see is only going to persuade them not to play. Take a break or play another game if you don’t enjoy it.

You also have to keep in mind that not everyone who plays is a maxed out player, and this game has been built up over like 20 years with small additions that gradually build up over time. Think of the new player experience - they are extremely overwhelmed with just how much there is too do in this game. Your perspective is just extremely jaded from playing forever and finishing the game essentially.

nassertee: I agree about the content not glueing anyone to the screen. I currently see myself as a casual player (only coming back about twice a year for one bond to catch up on comp requirements) and with said comp I'ld probably qualify as a high level account to do new endgame stuff, but i'm not into PvM, so there is really nothing to do for me other than finishing the new quests (which i enjoy) and grind comp achievements, which just burn me out and make me quit for the next 6 months.

Zayelion: Im "somewhat" satified with the current direction. I liked having a new task to complete and build up while the fort was under construction, and they had story lines going on. A new little piece of story to work on when I had time every month but this is ok too. The 110 skilling is going to be a thing Im sure they will push up to 200m XP (lvl 150 I think) so there is something for the top end skillers to be doing. RS caterted to PVM bossers for a long time and things got really sour for everyone else. They are kinda reversing that atm and its gonna take a while. They have finally figured out that, hey not everyone is level 80 anymore. Theortically they could push to somewhere between 210ish

Everyones energy seems to be being put to the new continent which sounds like its gonna be 4x Anachronia. And Anachronia is relatively packed. Nothing there is really meaningless, and many quest jump in and out of it. Its possible we spend years there till they decide to make another one. Our first expansion was really Prif and they learned a lot from that, followed by Menaphos where they learned everything NOT to do.

Dragonwilds brought in a nice chunk of change and maybe even expanded the player base, the exects seemed to have chilled out and now the dev thing can get cracking making content and fixing up the game. Business plan is pretty stable now. Push up a handful of skills 5 or 10 levels, profit from people buying XP, and subs to skill. Drop a quest once a month to every 3 months to keep the lorehounds happy. And drop a boss once a year. Then sprinkle in a new skill if things get stale.

FireRing-e2t: unless membership from my main comes with league pass then league never be for me. league isn't update to rs3 it new game like how they release osrs, that fine. Don't see them allow me to play league with just my membership already paid for.

Cognitoman: I been playing this game since 2001… and still have so much shit to do

retiredcatto: I can relate to what you’re saying and the overall feelings towards rs3 right now as I myself am at the point where my desire to play is wavering a bit. The road map does feel very end game. Skill updates I know can participate in, but, pvm wise I know I won’t be able to do it - as like you said maybe 1-2% will be able to participate with it. At the same time I can’t think of anything that they could do right now to change my feelings towards the game. So I guess it’s a me thing.

So my question to you would be- is there anything they could do to change your feelings towards the game right now or in the months to come?

greycrimson3228: I was kinda feeling that when I was watching Wazzy play the duck quest with the niece.

Sithis_Rants: Bad narrative decisions paired with repetitive skilling content and very few PvM bosses is a recipe for disengaged players. RuneScape has a massive noob problem, meaning it has none of them. Shitty tutorials, a god-awful UI, and a confusing combat system.

I don't think people want to hear this, but the entirety of EoC needs to be scrapped and replaced again at this point. Leagues will probably be great, but it is NO REPLACEMENT for a proper and seamless new player experience. If even people who want to give the game a good college try are turned away by how confusing and layered even the basics are, they will not be telling their friends about the game.

pontusnyfelt8096: I do agree that the game is now in mentiance mode but it have to be that just sometimes yes it has been a little long time. I do agree that they dont market it to right pepol and hopfuly gets more soon and i am a lore person and do agree that it is a little to little lore as it feels a little rusht the lore a little or trying to hide to much of the lore for a grand revil

But then again i am in early late game so tge update is for me and still have some stuff i need to do of the old content so that ofcourse diff a lot when it comes to opinions where you are in the game

S.y.t.h.i.k: Okay but if you account for all the gambling promotions, the year is packed full of content!
