okamiexe1501: Rematch just needs that "Air dribble" moment. that one mechanic that makes everyone wanna play the game and train for, even if they dont even know how to shoot on net.
Pinksilence: SMII7Y MENTIONED!!
palpaleo: The lack of direct competitors is really what killed RL in a way (thankfully there’s Leth and other creators that go above and beyond to carry RL on their backs).
So I’d really enjoy another game to hop on that feels new and actually cares about its playerbase
korekdorek: I don't think Rematch will kill Rocket League, but it will take some attention from it, that's 100%. RL needs better training system, better bots, more variety of map shapes and more gamemodes to make people come back to it or at least get some popularity back and make the game more enjoyable for newcomers.
danielal3868: I truly don't understand why anyone would say this game is similar to Rocket Leage. To me the fun part of Rocket League are aerials and all the freestyle
onofresilva9325: Also in soccer you can bait someone to put them off position and create space for a teammate. Space is important in soccer, you can create space, take advantage of space to confuse the defense and create opportunities to yourself. There is so much fun soccer and I hope we can do same things in Rematch. If we can, we can create so many creative plays, which, from my casual player point of view there is more of them compared to Rocket League
TGNDxGamers: The barrier of entry isn’t high but the skill gap will be
Sheamu5: Rematch is a lot of fun, but I'll miss being able to aerial.
lucasmartins7139: That´s what i love about Rematch, not a single skill is transferable from Rocket League, which makes the game actually good, because it looks more like actual football. I don´t think more hardcore RL players will spend much time in Rematch because of this core difference: Rematch is a game about football while RL is a game about cars doing tricks and it just happens to have 2 goals and a football. I think it will hurt more the FIFA population than the RL one, because for years the FIFA playerbase has yearned for a football game, any football game that was remotely fun and had a good gameplay and now there is one
pluto1730: GENUINELY I’m a little nervous… as competition may be great, I think epic games wants rocket league out of the gaming space for Fortnite and esports. If a company was to attempt to kill a game and gain its player base to move to their cash cow, doesn’t everything align? The skeleton dev team, trading gone in the name of a new game mode in Fortnite with updated graphics etc… but mechanically foreign to the game it’s referencing? Items bought are now available in Fortnite as well.
Which brings me back to my fear, this may actually kill rocket league. Epic already knew rocket league could be producing way more in sales with just a little investment and community engagement. I don’t think if this other game takes off RL will ever be given anything to compete unless the other game harms their Fortnite base.
voltageplays4480: I can see how it’s a fun game but the thing I like about rl is that you can only control the car and you use that to influence the ball. There isn’t a button to shoot or pass.
MattJ3enning: Rocket league has been completely broken on Xbox for 6 months with input lag, frame drops v sync issues and now the game just crashes randomly. One third of the RL community has been pushed aside while they focus more on churning out new items and bundles to sell. I’ve been playing since free to play came out and I’ve never had a worse experience playing rocket league than I do loading up the game now in 2025. The game felt smoother on my Xbox ONE which is a 12 year old console…
Spitflies: It will be interesting to see what high level rematch gameplay looks like. One thing that makes Rocket league so unique is that high level skills look and feel very cool and impressive. If the rematch meta looks like everyone solo bonking the ball on their head down the field for every play, that's gonna turn me off pretty quick.
hassan3o7: Modded maps will go crazy in this game
opcomment: What sounds more fun: running around chasing a ball or driving supersonic acrobatic rocket powered battle cars?
vaguelysomething: When rematch releases we need a ranked series
wooperman14: trading with taxes.
dngitbobby: As a guy who only has 1000 hours in RL and lost interest in it awhile ago after years of grinding, I finally have a game I actually have the desire to grind again. It makes me so happy
danieljensen6154: Using musty as the example of people who’ve tried knock off rocket league games
blizzard254: After nearly a decade of real life goalkeeper training, I'm sitting here envisioning the "how to be a great rematch goalkeeper" training videos wondering how far they'll be from reality lol I love the concept of the game though
jawadalam4409: A bit of a longer post.
For you guys that have played it a ton, does the game need a little bit more adjustment on how automatic some things are?
As someone who loves soccer/football and has grown up watching and playing it, I fell in love with Rocket League because of how similar it is in terms of needing to train the little things, aka mechanics.
In Rocket League, you seriously need to pay attention to where you make contact with the ball. You need to read the angle, bounce, and where your car makes contact with and of the ball. Just like in soccer, hitting with your instep, laces, and toes and the ball's pace, bounce, and spin all change how you hit the ball making it genuinely difficult to pass, shoot, or cross if you don't practice.
Rematch seems to focus more on actual soccer IQ with positioning and tactics and not so much on mechanics, but actual soccer mechanics seem to be very automatic. You can hit the ball hard and accurately with little effort, and scoring goals is dependent more on reading the game, passing, and positioning rather than technique or mechanics. In Rocket League, however, hitting the ball hard and accurately, despite being the most basic mechanic, is something you can get better at almost forever, like soccer.
Curious to see how Rematch decides to approach this. Making it a bit more difficult but not too hard could be perfect for longevity. FIFA is more similar to Rematch than Rocket League, but I think a bit of both could work wonders for soccer/football lovers.
user-yv6xw7ns3o: That game doesn't interest me at all. It's not the soccer aspects that make rocket league a long-term game for me, it's the way that's combined with all the freedom of motion and degree of nuance in the mechanics.
aarepelaa1142: Its like fifa but an actual game
vaguelysomething: I'm excited for Rematch it looks so fun but idk if I'm willing to pay $30 for it we'll see
korabeats_: Never been big on solo soccer games like Fifa, but I'm not gonna lie, this does look pretty sweet to casually play with the homies and not get wrecked or frustrated. Lol. Between full time work and school, I don't have the time to practice or grind games anymore. The fact the skill ceiling is so low initially, while also having the potential to get cracked at it, plus being nuanced enough to not get bored quickly, makes me very interested.
Hadeks_Marow: I fear for the playerbase cause, rocket league was new and interesting to most people. Rematch is like, the sequeal to something you are familiar with. And not everyone is gonna enjoy the first movie, but most people have to watch the first movie to know they didn't enjoy it.
That's not why I'm concerned though, I'm just stating what advantage RL had over Re. Rematch is pricing itself at $30. The difference between $25 to $30 is HUGE as far as "buy willingness goes". It's like the line between different tax brackets of game prices. Given what I said earlier. . . people are gonna see that price and it's gonna be the difference on if people say "you know what, I know where this ride leads, i don't need to do this again"
