POE2 Style Recombination Comes To Path Of Exile 1 New Option In 3.26. Heres Why Its Not Useless

CouchOwner2: keep in mind: 3.26 is getting a whole host of drop-only mods on Mercenary gear. depending on how good those are and how rare they are, there could be TREMENDOUS demand for well-crafted items with those mods, as well as items with those mods, combined with other mods that won't show up on Mercenaries (like Essence mods, presumably).

If the mods are valuable, Fracturing Orb prices are going to go nuts, Split beast prices are going to go nuts, and the crafting method here will be another contender in that space. That together with the Memory Strands mechanic might mean this patch ushers in an unheard of league of crafting starting from items that are not white/normal.

SangoProductions213: Basically: Have an item with 1 good mod? Recombinate it with another item with an absolute garbage mod. Then split it so that you have an item with exactly 1 good mod. Then get to the normal rolling, with your guaranteed good mod. Repeat until your item is half way usable.

500 divines deep and your second best roll is just 34 life. Then you realize why you never craft.

Zenbubbles: My build and atlas strategy for any league is playing a fun build in fun content. It has the highest probability for the most fun, which means I can clear all the content before the fun dries up.

Thekuschelchen: just a heads up, something i have abused a bit in poe 2.

Fractured items/mods stick to their base if the fractured base is chosen even if you dont pick that mod.

That way you can get a good item, for example one of the new mercenary items with a desireable fracture target, fracture orb it, and in case you miss the desired mod, but hit another high tier mod, lets say t1 life, you can use this exact strat to clean the item while also reusing the fractured "miss". There are some other use cases of carrying over fractured mods, but in general its important to know that in the new recombinator fractures just stick for free if the right base is chosen.

blackomega34: We don't need this in the game. The average player needs that shit way more than this power creep minmaxer nonsense.

They need to make Recombinated items Split, and Split items unable to be Recombinated. Recombinators should be cheap af, let you mash items together ONCE. A regular player gets a ton of value out of this, while top end players just get to do low-odds crazy gamba with it.

metasyntax42: This should be better in PoE1 as well because you can craft the donor items easier that in PoE2 since you can alt-spam.

HorizonVertigo: In HC with alteration orbs being somewhere around 4:1 chaos the last number of leagues, I have just been chaos spamming amulets or other items that I need to get a particular mod on. Then if I need a spot to craft affix or prefix can't be changed hit it with an annul and craft from there if successful. Poe2 recombination seems like a much lower chance than a successful annul? I know the cost of the divines for crafting will be higher but I think the time value of around 10 divs per hour is worth it in most cases. Either way something to keep to think about when estimating value of time to item value.

wtfwasthat16: The only slight positive i see from this craft style is that the resulting item is rare and 1 mod.

For the first amulet in ssf i would spider split. In trade i would Morrigan split for a pure 50/50chance to keep the mod. Though in ssf i made a ton of brand gear so i just rolled a ton of 1 all gear with alts or fossils with splitting.

ppokep: I wonder if there will be any use for trying to recombinate mods onto an item that has memory strands, to then upgrade them via Orb of Unraveling. I imagine the opportunity cost will be too high but still curious about it lol.

ILikeGuns1992: Sorry, correct me if I am wrong but even this best use case scenario is terrible? You are still having very little success chance and "success" is just cleaned up 1 all skill gems ammy?

However that's changed in3.26. that means they are already buffed

Also, iq is always harder to get rather than ir. And now they get few Huntress of iq instead of ir

And don't forget there are 400%ir scarb now

robertrose9307: Personally, I like the introduction of this mechanic, since it means players don't have to memorize charts and do insane math to figure out the best methods of recombinating items. Though I imagine doing it blind using the original method might be better in some instances as well.

tylerhall4677: The big question I got is if “exclusive” mods can be smashed together ie things like double overcaps etc or essence mods… if we can there is some very nice use cases for the new recombinators with for instance grabbing 2 bows and using 2 deaf essences and smashing together for a double essence outcome etc
