Also a huge favoritism to ranged characters, the best "melee" builds rely heavily on ranged attacks

Oh, boy. That was it's own problem. And GGG nerfed I think literally 7 mechanics around it, because it was too OP before finally redesigning how it works in like 2019. They nerfed ignite, prolif, fire damage on tree, multi-effects on tree like fire ignite nodes, they changed the mana costs, man... Man what a problem that was way back when. With these changes theu fucked melee into Reave-Only for over a year until Heralds came out to fix the prolif being the only Melee clear... Man... Big GGG OOF.

Cold also doesnt have to be just chill/freeze.
GGG could improve upon the available creative of this being a new game. They have the opportunity to fix the short comings with this game and so far they've been following old design cues.
humanbugman: Ice also sucks because HoI doesnt trigger on Deli monsters so its basically dead if you wanna do deli, which is basically the best way to top-end farm.

LethalPastry: I remember in 0.1, I plucked up the courage to theorycraft my own build for the first time ever. I ended up creating a cast on freeze, which was objectively worse than the one that became "meta" and was immediately nerfed. At that point, my entire build was bricked, and I couldn't respec. That aside, a week later when everyone was playing mana-stacker spark and full clearing their screen, I just asked myself, "What was the point?" How is one insta-clear ability okay while another is not? The cold versus lightning was just the icing on the cake. The release version of cast on freeze could have easily stayed, and it wouldn't even be in the top 5 strongest builds (that never get touched).

Ignite is also fundamentally flawed mechanically. It should be completely revisited.
Stun being only for phys and melee is also so obvious.
Timinax: I don't remember if poe had as big of a lightning problem before, ofc shock has always been op but when we got lucky hits, everything is now just lightning, then they added volatility and other ways to increase max damage.

MrBuns-yi2hk: I don't think lightning damage is the problem. Most lightning skills just outclass the other elemental types. I would much rather have cold damage than lightning damage in the current meta.
Fire damage is the only type I can say is genuinely bad.

droid5785: Told my friend I wouldn't judge skills off the patch notes like galvanic shards going to 1 bolt instead of 4... Then I realized it's a lightning skill so unlike frag rounds and permafrost it still feels good. Lightning op but I've still had fun on other builds... Just harder
viktorstorelv: Even on my explosive shot mercenary, I had to use gloves that change fire to lightning damage to make it pop. And.. I don't want lightning. I want fire!!!
