Path of Exile 2 Dawn of the Hunt Dev Insights with GGG

CrazyByDefault: Those who might not watch till the end - Jonathan apologizes at the end for "malding" at the start and says he clearly got off on the wrong side of the bed today. He does get a lot more comfortable as the interview goes on.

Please remember that Jonathan is human, has been working through the weekend, probably is sleepless, and that we shouldn't attack people personally when our criticisms are with the game.

Timetravel1979: I give these devs credit for being willing to walk into the lion's den and taking the hard interview when most studios would run away from this sort of thing in this type of scenario.

itsjustajokejeez: "Well, there were some blatant...fuck ups". I love this era of interviews where people just speak plainly. It's so refreshing.

gnomelord9593: I wanna say I appreciate Ziz, Jonathan, and Mark for speaking plainly and not being afraid to argue a bit. Everyone here is clearly passionate about the game.

alexsmith8364: Ziz really hit em with the old "if you let me finish" right at the begining

ramonvdelst: Mark is so vital for the flow of this interview

Killwaukee87: Ziz, for anyone that’s ever called you a “shill” for ggg, I hope they watched this interview. Thanks for everything you do for the community.

grapplepi: As a POE casual the biggest thing to me is that I cant just pick a cool looking skill and build around it. I understand there is a high ceiling on stuff, but under lv10, engraving an attack gem and having it be absolutely useless makes no sense to me.

TheOfficialExposure: bro im proud of what you did thank you...yes u were blunt but u didnt let them push u around or let there disposition get to u when answering questions....u did awesome my guy thanks for a great interview and thank u for getting what needs to be said to there ears even if they didnt wanna hear it i appreciate it alot thanks

michaeljones1753: Man I can't help but feel Jonathan is more and more stressed and over worked while Mark is handling the pressure way better, makes me think Jonathan took over the management that Chris was doing before he left, and Mark is able to fully concentrate on the game without worrying about the business.

clintfoster23: Jonathan seems pretty defensive while Mark seems more committed to genuinely understanding and responding to feedback.

Edit: He does apologize at the end which I definitely appreciate and I do understand that he and the team have been under pretty constant scrutiny from the community. It's great that they are willing to do interviews like this and commit to making sure that players are having fun with the game.

MopeyZooLion: Mark sitting there looking at Jonathan like "Please put the shovel down..."

sunlaser: while it's obvious that jonathan woke up on the wrong foot that day (which he apologizes for and i give him lots of respect for that) i think it's good that he gives sort of pushback on a lot of things, rather than just agreeing with everything and saying "yeah ok we'll fix that and that" cause it creates a discourse and things are being looked into critically which is generally healthy for any project. i think GGG are good devs and the game is still in EA where things NEED to be adressed, so thank you for representing the community Ziz and leading such a good interview

TellaTheTruth: I'm relatively new to PoE and i'm kinda mind blown that the creators of the game actually sit down and have an open discussion with the community and address glaring issues like this. Especially with the amount of assholes iv seen in game and on the subreddit who are never satisfied with anything (even tho the game isn't even released yet). This community definitely takes it for granted. Like 99% of gaming devs would never even show their face and just continue to make the game they wanted regardless of feedback and only have their eyes on your wallet ESPECIALLY a couple days after a very controversial patch dropped. I get that people are passionate and have an expectation after playing poe1 but it seems like Jonathan/Mark and their team are equally as passionate. I don't think even a fraction of the hate they get is warranted. Great interview Zizaran.

LondoMollari_: This felt like being a fly on the wall in a developer game balance meeting or discussion, you did a good job Ziz! Hats off to Jonathan and Mark for being this transparent!

SpaceTiger9: I love hearing from Mark. It feels like he's got a good grasp on things

Yuuryan: I love how mark talks. I start to think he is the sucessor of Chris

sebastianholsclaw: Palsteron makes a good point: you can have their vision of meaningful combat against bosses. You probably cannot do that in semi random swarm packs.

thiagobadin5331: I just want to recognize the amount of pressure those man are going through. They really like and love their game, it's the work of their life. Saying that they don't care is ridiculous. Now imagine going live in front of tens of thousands of people wanting your head. It must be nerve racking and i aplaud both of them for doing it.

Takamorisan1: Early in the interview Ziz and Johnathan were in war mode. Mark Panda aura saved the day and after the turbulent beginning everything went well.

christo2690: W Mark for actually listening

joshuaowens570: Ziz brought up a perfect point. If people tried to speed run the campaign and not kill everything for upgraded gear and xp we would just get absolutely crushed by the bosses, so this idea that everyone would run away from every monster all the time is completely wrong lol

TickerSymbolYOU: Watched this live: really impressed with the depth of the questions and follow-ups. One of the best POE2 interviews to date (and maybe one of the most important given the current state of the game). Great job.

Laeyz: "Its the fact that people like building glass cannons"

No, not all of us want to, just that there is no other option

branndead5289: i'd much rather see devs being honest and emotional talking about their game - for good or bad, than have some corporate trained teleprompter response to questions.

It's so much more interesting hearing their honest views and thinking about responses in real time.

credit to Jonathan and Mark for this - great interview Ziz

Meitti: Have to remember that even in Souls games most standard monsters go down in 1-3 hits. Despite their famous difficulty standard monsters in those games are not a huge challenge, they just force you to pay attention to the screen.
