CeliacBandit: Grabbing a front row seat for this Ted Talk
osmanthus5427: for fellow burgers, recap time
when considering a currency strat,
1) what are the win conditions of the strat? what makes it work? (e.g. big hits in rituals such as purple omens and raw divines)
2) what modifiers accelerate/optimise your gains? (back to rituals, increased buying power, as many big hits per page possible, as many pages possible)
3) what kind of character do you need to clear it? (aoe? single target? mixed? speed?)
4) how much time do you have? (does it require you to interact with players? whats the demand for the items youre selling from the strat?)
5) is the amount of fun you have worth the "effort"?
when theory crafting in passive tree,
1) what is my character trying to accomplish?
2) what conditions are best suited for my character to function? (for example, if you have instances of chip damage of your build, is it really optimal to run passives that give you bonus damage against full life targets only?)
3) opportunity cost (when you go for skills, youre always giving something else up for it. is it worth the exchange? for example, using a controlled metamorphosis diamond. are the skills you get to pick up from the controlled metamorphosis worth dropping an entire rare jewel's worth of stats, your loss in resistances, and the skill points used to get those skills? could those skills be used to get something else instead? what are you giving up to fix those resistances?)
4) what does my character suck at? will improving my strengths negate these weaknesses as well or do i have to sack some damage to get more defenses?
5) if i want a certain stat bonus, are there any other sources for it? (for example, critical spell damage bonus is less common on gear than in jewels and the passive tree. hence, you would want to focus on stacking as much critical hit chance for spells on your gear so you can allocate more critical spell damage bonus on your tree to optimise your damage output. logic works vice versa as well.)
when gearing a character,
1) what stats give me the most power/defense for each affix i can get?
2) what stats do each piece of equipment offer that other equipment offers less of or doesnt have entirely? (optimise your affixes. for example, using your glove suffixes for crit damage bonus and attack speed and using your ring suffixes to cover your resistances instead)
3) when buying upgrades, swap similar sources of certain affixes around and find the combination that gives you the most value for your buck (for example, going for boots as a source of chaos res instead since crafters 99% of the time get chaos res on them. higher supply, means lower cost. basic economics)
weapon swaps
1) what is the purpose of each weapon set? for example, why would you need damaging spirit gems active for weapon sets that increase your mobility (blink, whirling slash, etc) and/or are used to apply buffs/debuffs (infernal cry, conductivity, etc)
this skills/spirit gem or this other one?
1) what is your character struggling with?
2) whatever fits your playstyle bro
3) again, opportunity cost. what is the win conditions of each of them? what is easier to accomplish for how much you have to invest into it?
bUdGeT?
lock the fuck in and put the fries in the bag bro. you suck, its okay, get good, stack paper. scale your character to the moon. blast the balls off everything.
lastly, TRY and figure shit on your own. ask questions to clarify your understanding, not to be spoonfed information.
