Skirmitar: Good video mate. on one point i would argue a bit . The crafting in POE 2 is a downgrade from poe 1's crafting. At release in practice you still chased the perfect drop in poe 2, because most of the deterministic crafting option was gated behind low drop rate or extremly high price on the market. Now with every patch, things gets better and better but still nowhere near as good as was in POE 1
off-meta-michael: great vid bro!
ChipnChep: PoE1&2 are the true successors of D2(LoD) but at the same time a step in a direction I never felt like following. As you perfectly described the "work with constraints" vs "totally free engineering" just appeal to different types of people.
And to this day no other game has - imho - ever been able to reproduce the perfection that was D2s loot system. a system where any kind of drop could be useful (white normal items? might be good for runewords, blue magic items? some are best in slot with the right attributes or can be crafted, yellow rares? the potential is often limitless, golden uniques? they truly offer unique effects) and even drops from the early stages of the game (like chipped gems or crappy jewels) had value to the endgame-level players. PoEs loot system relies more on modularity and predictability, which is probably the correct choice for these days but just never gripped the same way
SerrynRS: Wtf are you on about in the crafting section? You described poe not 2, it has no crafting just identification with extra steps
gokofanatiko15: path of exile 1 is the staple of arpg's in this current era, not d2 nor poe 2, skipping over poe1 is such a weird choice for a video like this lol
XevnPlays: i love GGG, they admit they love Diablo 2 and thats what inspired them to make Path of Exile 1.
jpVari: I'm someone that has played Diablo 2 since release, gleefully playing the same archetypes through the same storyline for many years
Then poe2 came out and satisfied me more than any game since D2... And other players were whining the campaign was too long because only end game matters lmao oooo.
I love poe2, and I love D2, to me it feels like an upgrade. Idk how you can ignore things as simple as wasd or as deep as the passive tree and support skill system.
Anyway, I hope they don't squander it due to poe1 heads.
modelistas1: Nice vid, but you should make another one after poe2 fully releases
lexdtv: IT'S A HELL OF A GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME
Barn80: I have play d2 and d2 r for a long time and I was so excited when I heard that ggg took inspiration from d2 for poe2. After about a month of playing poe2 I knew something was off, at least for me. There ls just no other game like d2. I dont think there ever will be. It will always be the pinnacle of Arpgs. Poe2 is a step backwards
TalkativeTri: Great vid, especially the editing with sound/transitions.
davidbehrendt8812: Path of Exile be like: "Am i a joke to you?!"
InsPoE: Everything about this video was amazing. Subject matter, production quality, presentation, and cadence. Fantastic job, hope it gets the recognition it deserves!!
everseenTV: beautiful editing, can definitely tell you put a lot of work into this! :D
andysng83: POE2 is becoming a disgusting Gambling Simulator. Every thing is random this random that. Hardly any controls on crafting items. Even with expensive omens to influence the orbs usage, still random. At least in D2, I can expect intended outcomes with runewords, specific horadic cube recipes and more. It's usually wearing set items, uniques, rune words, or those specially crafted orange items. In POE2, the Recombinator should just rename to Incinerator. Even on the fricking lottery luck that your two selected stats get combine successfully, you still need to succumb to 4 more super random Exalted Orbs use. And it ignores the base item level and still can give you modifiers as crap as T1 level. For example, you struck lottery on the Incinerator and you managed to combine "150% Increased Physicial Damage" with another "50-70 Additional Physical Damage". You slam 4 more Exalted Orbs to only suck it up low T# modifiers like, 10-20 Fire Damage, and 3 more lame suffixes like 10 Resist/Attributes instead of 40. Sure you can use very expensive Orb of Annulment (Remove random mod) with omen (help you remove lowest mod) to remove the lowest stat. And then? You apply another Exalted Orb to risk more lame stats. There's many ways this can be improved and attract more players back to the game. Like, Recombinator should not destroy items upon failure. The expedition materials to combine is already high cost enough and such low rate of success. Why should our hard-earned/found base items disappear too? Next, plenty orbs can do well changing from Random into Target Modifier. Fracturing orbs should NOT be random. It's worth and rarity should just let us pinpoint the modifier we want instead of randomly picking the stats. Adding modifiers with orbs on any items must also be more protected. If a base item is looted at level 80, 81 or 82, They must not have any random T1 stats appear on them. The lowest Lvl 82 item should get is T6, and all the way to T10 modifiers. A table of metrics can be implemented to provide an overview of what ranges of T# stats should be on which item level. But I am not sure what kind of "FUN" vision Jonathon claims. It's not fun seeing your hard earned loot goes POOF. I remembered in D2, we can destroy the socketed gems from the items to plug in other stuffs right? And also a choice to destroy the item to recover the socketed gems/runes? In POE2, you plug the wrong sockables, there's no changing already.
dragon_dyce: I much prefer D2 itemization over path of exile 1 & 2
jerryjia2321: Hey you probably won't see this but this video randomly came across my feed today and I was blown away by the quality and presentation.
I ended up binge listening to all of your recent podcasts while building a new crib for our soon to be born son, have to say I really enjoyed them very much and respect your demeanor and outlook towards the future of poe2.
I hope for your success on this channel, and look forward to future videos!
thesphyrth: The answer was stated early and late in the vid:
A case for True Succession - PoR is what D3 and beyond should've been in terms of graphics, mechanics, and overall feel.
VonCurry8: Been way too long for the Internet to put out this video. Great video, and yes this game strikes me as the true D2 successor, loving it and trying to not play it too much so i still get that new car smell when it releases lol
coolguy42318: love the documentary style vibe to this. blazeworks on top
w1mark275: Realistically POE2 and Diablo 2 actually have a very similar skill tree if you look at the actual skills and not the passives. Diablo 2's skill tree is a mix of both passive and active skills, but it's mostly just active skills, whereas poe2'skill tree is entirely active skills. The passive tree in poe however, is mostly unexplored in diablo 2. Yes, there are a few passive skills that you experiment in conjunction with active skills in diablo 2, but those passives are limited by your class or unique items. In path of exile, a majority of the depth comes from the passive tree itself, what path you take depending on what class skills you want to use, or how you want to play. On top of this, every character in path of exile 2 is essentially a hybrid class, as what truly defines your character is what weapon(s) you use, and ascendancy class you pick. Technically you can swap out any weapon you like, so I guess you could say your weapon choice is "not" your class, but at the same time, it's the most defining aspect of your character. Ironically if you exclude weapons as classes, diablo 2 has more class depth than poe2 since ascendancy classes are way smaller in comparison. (You can argue where you start in the passive tree is your actual class so there is more depth, but at the same time every class shares the same passive tree so its uniqueness is not as defined as it is in diablo 2 where every character has their own unique set of skills)
thecasualexile123: Awesome! Nice video! Ofcourse, POE is the true sequel to Diablo 2.
Honestly, I also played slow in D2. That game was scary even for a 13 year old me.
Xtimus: Nice vid dude GGs
DapperGoldie: Awesome video bro. Even from someone who never played any of the Diablo games growing up it’s clear to see the inspiration GGG has taken from Diablo 2. A certified Classic
lucasbigliatto974: Amazing video, mate. Grats!
It's kinda wild to realize that PoE feels more Diablo-like (heh) than anything Blizz made in the past 20 years.
jpVari: It's easy to respec in D2 now, you get a free respec for an early quest. So that's x3 by end game.
