acat5338: There's a visual indicator for shallow, moderate, and deep. Two ripples for shallow, 1 big ripple for moderate, 1 thin ripple for deep.

Plus there's set patterns, halfway through the bar before the school moves again it switches to moderate always (unless it's one of the shallow-only fishes). It maintains being moderate while on the move, and once it stops, it goes to either shallow or deep. Once you learn that you don't have to pay "as" much attention.
