Shopping CartTajinQ: I think Ultima might become a major antagonist somewhere down the line. There's still a lot of mysteries surrounding it, and it has ties with very important elements of the story (The heart of Sabik, influencing Athena, auracite in general). I think the key might be made of auracite. And it could be an opportunity to have a whole plot point about the WoL struggling to fight against Ultima corrupting your mind or even your allies through auracite, like Athena, or some of the bosses from the Ivalice raids.
Ultima is an extraterrestrial lifeform corrupting those who encounter it which reminds me a lot of Jenova from 7. Also speaking of Jenova, the very beginning of Sphene's boss theme is heavily inspirired by Jenova's theme, and the boss itself has a part of it which looks a lot like Jenova in its tube.
The next grand villain needs to be roughly on the same power scale as the ascians, and there'd need to be a reason why Venat or Emet wouldn't tell us about it. Since Ultima was here before Zodiark and Hydaelyn, its possible that it has been sundered, making its threat dormant. The ascians know very little about Ultima. The Pandemonium raids showed that it was able to influence ascians and that they know very little about it despite how advanced they were.
With Zodiark gone and most of the shards rejoined maybe the conditions are met for Ultima to take the front stage.
GlitchmasterStudios: lol
"You First Shard guys are used to living in hostile, aetherless white voidscapes, right? You'll be right at home in the Burn! You're welcome!"
SniperKing-O: JMulls grows a mullet when 8.0 drops when/if Yoshi-P give Highlanders eyebrows. xD
Kimboo_94: About ff9 characters... we have seen a variant of Steiner,Beatrix and Garnet, but no Zidane or Kuja, are they saving a big hint for a new playable race with the Genomes? And also, if they would bring both or one of them in, it would be a very fun twist if Zidane's new variant for 14 is the Angel Of Death and Kuja is more just a theatrical morally grey character who maybe is part of the Winterers. I know, absolute ridiculousness
wheelsrolling369: The Problem with the zanakand theory is that both zanakands are a physical location in ffx so it's not exactly a primal
Jon_the_Wizard: I am seriously wishing we'd get a Blitzballer physical ranged DPS job. Like, I'm so ready for it I've been collecting armor pieces that could conceivably be used as glamours for it, mostly shorts and the like from dungeons. There's very few armguard pieces that would work that I've found, so I might look for skintight pieces like the Abes, Duggles, Fangs, Goers and Psyches had instead of the slightly flowy tanktops like the Beasts and Aurochs. Just...please get Fanfest here faster so I can either have it confirmed and go absolutely crazy-go-nuts putting together a glamour for it or confirm something else so I can dejectedly put together a glam for that instead.
LyohKoh: Here's what i thought we were doing: turns out there are also shards of Zodiark as well on other moon shards.
I want more ancients, i want to visit their cities and learn more about them
I want the answer to the sleeping God to the west of Tural. It's mentioned exactly once, but you can see the fussures on the world map, so they are most certainly down there.
There's a tural vidral quest in Urqopacha where it shape shifts into a person and can talk! Very surprised i never hear anyone talk about this quest
I want more Cosmic Exploration but in the style of a Delve from Path of Exile.
I want a Return to Eorzea where the stories all converge and actually make a meaningful difference in people's lives
And of course, i want to visit all of the shards as well!
Don't really care about Merycidia, but that's a possibility.
And more Garlamald.
Also i know the game itself jokes No more Allagans, but i want more Allagans
Actually i want more on the calamities, i want to see them all. I'll hop on the time travel train anyday, i want to see it all
hasseo195: I want a short time jump in the story.
Currently are all big things allready happened. All of the scions has their own plans they want to do (build up Garlemald, write the book, find a better way for world travel). It should make a jump, so, that all this stuff is allready finished. And, i want the twins to be a bit older.
crisag7765: I have a theory: the Ascians have names of Greek gods. Azem would be Apollo, god of the sun, prophecy, and travelers. In Greek myth, Apollo has a twin sister, Artemis, goddess of the moon. My theory is that Altima is Artemis and is Azem's twin. In FF8, we meet Ultimetia; in the Japanese version, she's called Arutimishia, referring to the goddess Artemis. Artemis = Ultimetia = Altima = Ultima.
Following this logic, it wouldn't be surprising if, just like in FF8, Altima sought to compress time to unite the past (Amaurot) with the present. Furthermore, Azem's symbol is two twin serpents; the theme of the sun and the moon, destruction and creation, etc., would be a good parallel.
mismismism: I love the idea of Sin/Zanarkand but the FF14 version. Since Sin is effectively made to be an eternal sanctuary preserving Zanarkand and it's people(technically), maybe having the tenth seemingly reappear, maybe it's affecting the Source, causing water aether related problems like a calamity, and we go there only to find out the inhabitants used everything that was left of their shard to create a massive primal to house them in a dream of their world.
The only issue I could see with some play on Zanarkand is the similarities it would have with Ultima Thule, Amaurot and now Living Memory, it kind of feels like they should have saved that idea for an expansion using FFX callbacks TBH.
SuperRamos619: The piece of information you don't remember, is that in 6.4, when the Scions are opening a Void Gate on the Moon, Y'shtola states plainly that the Source and the Shards have a relationship, in which the Shards are naturally being pulled in by the Source. Hydaeyln, who uses the power of Stasis halted the advance of the Shards towards the Source.
Hydaelyn is now gone, along with her stasis powers in the Reflections. That means the Shards are now, once again heading towards a collision course with the Source.
PunishedJohnADouglas: Please accept this algorithmic comment in place of an opinion
jamiemiddleton5587: With all the references to winter and the ocean that Yoshi-P seems to be keen on for 8.0 and the recent relevance of the Milala. I think we might be diving into the fifth umbral calamity that allowed the denizens of the south sea isles and Meracydia to cross the ocean to the three great continents. Or maybe even going to the sixth reflection as the ascians used its imbalance of ice-aspected aether to cause the 5th calamity.
danielcrager1102: My brain keeps thinking that we're getting the First Astral Calamity.
trevormccaffrey2575: What if instead of merging the 1st into the source we can't save it and have to evacuate the people of the first to the source using the tower. After that we could have to find a way to other shards to evacuate them as well.
Demon_Batto: Something to mull over but remember when we were traveling to elpis in the life stream bc of the crystal tower? I think when we try to travel to a different shard we may get trapped in there between worlds and that's how the time skip may happen. My theory comes from the latest patch when the Asian talks about traveling between shards and I remembered how we go to elpis and thought what would happen if rhat was intereupted
Twim_Kersel: a timeskip would be amazing. Because all the WoL did not stayed the same age. I want to see all the Scions in older - what they might learned. Or what they might even lost.
xeonaught6942: I think a Sin like entity is inevitable along with a Jenova like entity
michaelbriggs185: I don't know if this would work because the source wouldnt be a mainline FF, but if they are going to be messing with time then some chrono trigger links would be interesting. Though this might just be me picturing an alliance raid on the Black Omen and having to tangle with iconic CT bosses. Maybe a Lavos type entity landed eons ago, attracted by the aether of the source, and the more the shards break down and the source swells with that aether, it begins to hasten its awakening and causes a bunch of time distortions thay let the players skip around different eras.
Tell me it wouldnt be awespme to do a Black Tyrano extreme fight or an undersea palace raid that ends fighting the Mammon Machine lol
StarBlood27: We are 100% going to Hingashi. We’ve only been to Kugane and a mountain, that’s not enough. There’s a major city in it, as well as being close enough to blindfrost for that to be the final two areas of an expansion. I’m not sold on it being 8.0, but it is islands, so that could be the water and wind
jengogonar: I think that Calyx is Fandaniel's "shard"
as for the 9th... I assumed that it was already merged with the source as 7 have been already rejoined (I tend to overlook which reflections have been already rejoined the source as they are... not exactly numbered in a way I can track lol)
As for Azem It was not at Elpis. I'm sure that Azem knew the future and he choosed to be sundered in irder to be in all the reflctions, and at some point the WoL WILL go to the past (not sure how since the Crystal tower's power must be depleted, BUUUT from elpis he could go somewhere else, I suppose) and met Azem to tell them spoilers of the future via echo most likely
default178: I'm excited for what comes next
DefenderX: Hey, I have been theorizing for some years. Here's one that I found that isn't really confirmed, but it's very obvious for me atleast.
They are setting up for a new rejoining and I'm hoping this will be a grand rejoining of three shards in one go.
Here's why. The umbral calamities that have happened until now have been rejoined with certain elements that is according to the elemental wheel going clockwise from wind to water. After the sixth calamity, the Seventh Calamity of the Seventh shard was rejoined with pure darkness aether, pure astral. This is important.
It seems to me that all the elements were called forth empowering the source, and then empowered with darkness or perhaps sealed.
Now we have six shards left (yes six), which is enough for all six elements to be called forth once more, and this also fits very well if the shards were rejoined with not only elements, but both astral and umbral aspected elements.
There needs to be balance between elements and astral and umbral.
According to the texts for the elemental wheel, after going through the elemental wheel, it also describes something called the three conquests and three submissions. These are triages of elements that cancels each other out.
I think that if the source is unbalanced with the correct elements at different locations.
Say you have an overabundance of lightning aether in Heritage Found shown as a vein of lightning aether spewing out lightning aether, that particular part of the source is overabundant of lightning.
Now we only need two other places on the source to be overabundant with earth aether and water aether, and viola you have a major rejoining with 3 shards.
ShoshanaBennett-q1x: My own theory - what if the WOL or Y'shtola suddenly realise the fate of the 9th shard, and in a moment the WoL decides to be the hero and try to use the key to allow for the Milala in Treno to escape just in time before it's collapse, but in doing so the gate which is opened by the key to the source "sucks" in all the aether from the 9th shard due to the lack of Zodiark/Hydaelyn to control it, indirectly causing a rejoining/calamity of the 9th.
