WoW vs FFXIV Why Gearing is SO Different

deejudanne460: ff14 gearing is boring as hell

trysephiroth007: For me, gear in WoW is just a means to clear the content so I'm not interested in farming it after the content is cleared. That's part of why I liked Final Fantasy raiding

Kenshin_Katori: Gear < Glamour. Everyone knows FF14 is a dress up simulator first and foremost.

xchaos2501x: FF14 player here. I haven't played WoW but I wouldn't be able to spend months on trying to get gear. I love that I can spend that time in other things such as new games, going out and about, spending time with friends and family or just doing some overtime at work for some extra money.

Jimbr16: Gearing? What is that? confused in GW2

Stratoschalo: i had bis on my hunter since half of .5 patch this patch added 4 new item that i got on the first day of the patch. geting bis on retail is easy and it will be extra easy next patch expet for the item 9/6 mitic

sct77: Not gonna lie I would rather have boring gearing and properly tuned raids than fun gearing and gear check raids.

Getting to Raszageth dps checks and knowing my group wasn't going to get past that for a while due to lack of good enough gear isn't fun and made me stop raiding on retail.

codernerd7076: Boring is good

TheMexRAGE: Gearing isnt designed around mono-gamers in FFXIV, this is why it is more likely to have people that does savage and ultimating raiding in FFXIV to also play other games, while for WoW or the WoW ecosystem it is usually their only game or atleast the only game they focus on.

fatboy1546: Personally, I thought I enjoyed the customization of builds and skills in MMORPG's until I had to play a 2nd class. I couldn't go through it again and eventually opted to simply following the guides rather than experiment and relearn everything again. Giving me a template job and gear being more cosmetic sounds mundane but the option of playing all classes on one character became the 'different build' gameplay for me.

envis10n12: One of the biggest turn offs for WoW (personally) was during the relics era with artifact weapons. It took me roughly 3 months to fill my slots on my rogue. I had epic gear before having filled slots. It was so disheartening and made it impossible to progress, and it was because of the RNG system for loot.

kaleiohu: One of the things I hated about WoW before leaving was the hamster wheel feeling of gear inflation. Since I didn't chase BiS I could easily gear to a high level every new patch without much effort. I stopped raiding because every patch made gear from the previous patch obsolete. FFXIV gearing could probably be improved in some ways but it's never been an issue for me. Since I'm chasing them for the fashion rather than the stats they remain evergreen. I know I can farm them at my own convenience if I'm willing to wait so it just adds to the list of content I could be doing at any time.

LeRoiduSaucisson-t4o: That's how my guild approaches raiding too. We clear heroic, do a reclear the next week to "confirm" or rather to take a screenshot because we tend to forget the first time around, and then it's "See you guys next patch!"

Speaking of next patch, I would have rather have them release it at a different time, it's in the middle of my vacation.

yeti9254: Thumbnail is very Jim Sterling coded

Cela-t1k: I wish gearing was more about unlocking set bonuses. Apply them to whatever gear you are using, regardless of the season or current raid.

stealthshopper2092: The problem with FF14 gearing is the job and how they respond to stat increases. On my fire mage, if i get more crit, or have 100% crit windows, my game play feels impacted. My shadow priest pops more ghosts and the rotation comes together with gear.

Summoner doesn't get anything like that. None of the jobs do. It's just a bigger number

mebrandonb: I talk about this with my friends who only play WoW. They LOVE gearing in WoW, vs me who bounces between WoW, FF14 and Guild Wars 2 consuming the content and enjoying experiences. I enjoy collecting appearances and stuff, but the gameloop of "I have to farm this dungeon over and over until this trinket hopefully drops" isn't something I consider enjoyable. Even with the current WoW design of throwing gear at players, I've found myself not playing it because I am just not interested in re-gear AGAIN once turbo boost lands, then add on the bis gear that only drops from raiding which I can't be asked to do anymore, and now I don't even plan to go back for season 2 at all.

I still think back to BFA when I was farming King's Rest over and over trying to get my warrior his bis sword and it didn't drop for me until the last week of the expansion, fantastic stuff.

I see WoW attempting to add some experience-focused content as of late and they have some growing pains there imo, but if they can figure that out and improve the open world experience they'll attract players who want more from a game than just the constant rng treadmill gear machine simulator.

nilsselbach5660: I have gone through a few statics and every time there is at least one player that complains about the simplistic nature of the loot/gearing system in ff.

I can somewhat understand the point but I always argued that this is a very intentional design - and at least during the 2 min meta not easily changeable. In fact, I think EW/DT FF XIV is deterministic to its core, you have in general very deterministic rotations of every job, the 2 min meta makes alignment basically deterministic, the dancelike fight design makes everything plannable. I always liked that because it meant I always have an actionable thing I can do to improve.

But that being said, I think with the removal of the 2 minute meta and the evolved mode as well as the changes to the gearing and endgames systems, there are opportunities for changes.

jmpbus5086: Yeah ffxiv also has a TON of evergreen content. I know very few people personally that uave cleared every ultimate/savage synced/field operation/48 man raid/deep dungeon/ criterion dungeon/q40/chaotic/-> solo deep dungeon/ blue mage.

Quad legend myself been playing on and off for years alongside wow...still need alot of that list

Theeeeeen there are relics*but i dont really count that).

vanos2968: 8:30 I haven't seen these many crits in one gear, in my life

Crafted gear 4 the win

TheNothingBurgerYT: Do ffxiv players not start getting gear for their alt jobs? I know it's all one character, but a warrior main could need different gear if they also play scholar. So don't they farm alt gear?

TheNothingBurgerYT: The main reason i play any online game is to show off my accomplishments. So when i clear current endgame, i stay in the game to show everyone my title, or emblem, or gear (depending on the game) to show everyone I've completed the hard shit lol
