chaoitcdie6444: There’s also the fact how the Warrior of Light is just built different, being able to teleport so much!
Other characters, like Alphinaud, mention how unusual it is to be able to do that so much. (At least, iirc in Stormblood)
ChaosDX1: An entire army was lost when they tried to teleport into the middle of an enemy city, not knowing the aetherite was destroyed to prevent them from doing that very thing.
NickK1291: I figured it was just because of the fees
countyagi: Always register with the chocobo taxi
Max44321: And your entire party is considered your personal property
fire-breathingturtledragon4513: I walk everywhere.I rationalize it as Aether sickness and leave it at that. And besides, the world of FFXIV is beautiful, why wouldnt I want to see it for as it is?
Kuxiko: In 1.0 we had a thing called anima I think?, a kind of aether/currency, that was used to teleport. The lore was that normal people had very little of it, so they only could teleport once in a long time.
That was the original "why npcs don't teleport that much?"
There was a NPC in limnsa I think that mention about it too.
And the why we pay Gil for teleport, is just a few for the cities to maintain the aetherite that needs to be infused with aether from time to time to stay being a beacon
Setuaro: Thank you. I've been wondering about this SO much for RP x-x
TiamosLoren: Another important detail with aetherytes across the world is that adventurers - even the Warrior of Light - has to at first attune to an aetheryte in order to teleport to any of the available aetheryte locations in the first place. Put simply, if you do not possess the means to connect to the aetheryte's unique signature you are trying to reach, you cannot even use teleport to arrive at a new location.
Even when this process of attunement was circumvented by the Warrior of Light in their first arrival to Thavnair, it required so much of an exertion to connect to an unattuned aetheryte that it induced aether sickness. In the *Warrior of Light*. What this could do to the average adventurer, by comparison, honestly does not bear thinking about.
Not to mention the aspects of the costs incurred. The fees are mentioned at times as a means of upkeep and maintenance for the aetheryte, but it is also an oversimplification of the exertion it normally employs on the body, and the costs for further travel are considered to include the means of recovering from said exertion, so that you can walk around upon arriving as a fully functioning living being. It would just, for gameplay's sake, be cumbersome to have a cutscene every time of your character teleporting around sat down eating and drinking to recover.
igarshi457: another cool thing is well it may be rare, its common enough that there is an aetheryte in every major location.
while some locations are likely for gameplay reasons(such as the edge of the universe), most are places of interest for some party. and depending on the cost of setting one up its possible for have a small but influential group to have one for there base.
looking at you, scions in the waking sands
Onhyx27: A better question, a legitimate lore question: Why does it cost Gil to teleport?
Are City States and Outposts reaping the benefits of all these taxes??
acgearsandarms1343: My estimate is the average person(who can teleport) has enough energy to teleport once or twice a day on average. Three times max in extreme situations. In your opinions, how many times do you think the average person can teleport a day?
alydev23: I always found it interesting that we close our eyes when teleporting, like we're communing with the Mothercrystal or just seeking out a path through the aether to our destination. There's some great fanfics on ao3 that try to expand on the mechanics of how things like that work
hakuzosionnach: WoL sint got no time to walk
Chadsama: In addition, I recall either talking to an NPC or seeing incidental NPC dialogue to the effect of: the NPC felt exhausted from teleporting once and hearing them say that it would take a day (or more?) before they feel like they would have the energy to teleport again.
Teleporting also uses aether and not all individuals have enough mana to comfortably travel via teleportation.
IAmAwesomeRocker: "How come you have to pay gil everytime you teleport?"
"Because lore."
DragonXYZ8641: To quote a certain brick, "hell is real and u can surf on it"
araniusprod: Teleportation is just traveling at the speed of light
17Master: So what about the aetheryte shards in the main city-states? Same principle, sure, but the convenient placements of them make me wonder if their existence is canon or just player convenience.
Deltabolster: I always wondered why the garlean empire didnt just slowly over the course of years have members of their army attune to eatherytes in major cities so they can eventually just do a huge invasion
starofaetherius: oh hey its the video i asked about in the last short! im sure its a coincidence but still, i enjoyed this thoroughly!
kaleajadesilver8918: It might be my brain being tired but the sound effects remind me of the ones used in Dissidia 012, sorta. The colors are also similar too, when falling off the platforms in the fights. Neatos.
mugen1292: oh that's the reason? i just thought the aetherites teleportation system requires actual gil for usage and that the price is a bit too much for your regular andy, and the only reason we spam it is because the WoL had deep pockets and could just splurge, since for a man of high demand like the WoL time is money, at least that was my head canon
D3th10rd: Meanwhile in side quests random npcs can just teleport away effortlessly with their whole group even while in combat just to pad out the quest line.
Second_UNIT: Wasn't Yshtola casting Flow literally confirmed to be a primitive teleportation spell? I feel like she said something along those lines, or that was confirmed after her body was recovered post-aetheric dismantling
cherryindil8869: so wol is insane in short
