Shopping Cartmadeline8062: that point about scholar needing arcanist is so real, when i was just starting out i absolutely LOATHED those 30 levels of arcanist, i guess it was worth it looking back cause i love scholar but i really wish scholar or at least a more "healing oriented" version of arcanist was available starting out
PyroCeras: I like the straight forwardness
Even when I'm not in the best headspace I do decent enough on WHM in savage, and am not a burden. And Holy goes brrrrrrr
DaemonetteBait: Really, the problem is the dichotomy of the FFXIV player...
On one hand you have "ALL JOBS ARE THE SAME NOW! CLASS HOMOGENISATION!"
And the other hand "X-CLASS IS THE WORST! IT DEALS 0.5% LESS DAMAGE THAN Y-CLASS IN THIS SPECIFIC CONTEXT!"
Honesly i find ignoring anyone moithering about the jobs are worth ignoring, if a raid group wont let you in due to the job you play, its probably not worth the effort of raiding woth them in the first place ("we already have one" or "we only have this slot open" doesnt count in that)
Ziegrif: As I've reiterated multiple times | HOLY CAST |
dacomputernerd4096: One thing of note with white mage is it's great in stone vigil hard because you can Benediction the knights in the cuca fera fight to stop a wipe
grottosstuff: Welcome to White Mage party mitigation!
We have:
- Temperance
- Divine Caress (But it's taped to Temperance)

syaojyn: I play white mage and sage over astro and scholar, for comfort and partially because astro is a super nightmare on controller
A video about methods people do to tackle controller player deficiencies would be cool
Veienn: I love white mage, but the sad thing about this class is spamming holy or stone 90% of the time below level 80 with nothing better to do. If others are dying I'm at least allowed to have fun and raise or heal them which is what I actually like about playing a healer. Maybe that's why red mage feels like best of both worlds.
masterspade7991: Personally I think the only thing wrong with WHM is the loss of the Druid class fantasy as you level it up
I loved playing Conjurer, throwing rocks at the enemy is so much more fun to me than spamming WHMs flashbang attacks
If we ever get a Green Mage or Druid job I will have no complaints about WHM anymore
mthebubble6565: While MP economy is interesting, it matters very little if at all with the amount of piety they have recently been forcing on healer gear. You can literally spam nothing but cure 3 or succor for a whole encounter, with lucid dreaming on cooldown, and you won’t run out.
In which case, MP recovery only becomes relevant as it applies to recovering after death. Whereas previously when minimum piety sets were so low on piety, it was risky to run out with your dps rotation alone, and lucid dreaming usage was way more important than now.
You will always have more piety than you need these days.
TheAlmightyTurkey: Until SE makes a fight that any one job CAN'T
free_live_free-511: i just think it's neat
indiepyx: Please Yoshi-P make Regen an OGCD with two charges with a CD of about 45s. It just sits unused on my toolbar in higher levels since using it mid-battle is a "waste" of a GCD, especially in more difficult fights like the Chaotic Raid where the DPS check is more tight.
Sparkthor: I think it's not the white mage who need an additionnal short mitigation CD, but SE should get rid of Collective Unconscious. Also AST is in my opinion the biggest mistake in FFXIV.
To clarify this a bit (and not be killed), AST, as it was designed back in HW, was a flexible healer which can be paired either with a SCH or a WHM. However, in HW, Scholar was still more a dps with a healing pet (or the scholar was the dps pet of Eos), and all "time" aspected spells which extended the duration of buffs provided by the AST doesn't work with shields. Also cards were pretty unbalanced and i think busted.
When they add Sage, they decided to cut be "shield" part of AST, and Collective Unconscious mitigation is the last meaningfull part of this past.
kumoko3728: pros of whm: holy
cont of whm: Holy
All4Tanuki: Video title had me shouting out "Holy! Holy!" like I'm doing backing vocals for Geordie Greep
mthebubble6565: Divine caress should not be tired to temperance. It’s often excessive for most situations in casual content, feeding into its excessive healing narrative.
MrsLittletall: Last time we had Warrior, my to-go-tank and today we have White Mage, my husband's chosen job ^^ When we dabbled in Extremes/Savage, he was really pulling his weight, like my husband is a fantastic healer and saved quite a few tries with his healing. We also often do stuff together that is meant for more than two players, I as Warrior and he as White Mage. He usually only has to heal me when my self heal is out and otherwise can do damage and stun, like treasure maps are really fun in our combo (though they take a while).
My chosen healer is Astrologian and oh boy, I get the galaxy brain comment... I actually found it easier to heal with Astrologian in Extreme content, as I knew exactly what was coming when and could plan around it, while in dungeons and normal trials and stuff I don't have it all memorized.
And last, these discussions remind me a bit back when I played WoW. In WoW I was healer with heart and soul (now I am tank with heart and soul =D ), and my chosen healer was the holy priest. Holy priest was fantastic for group heal, but not as good a healer for single target heal, and we constantly got outshined by druids and their damned tree form. In a sense, it all makes me think of infighting.
It's a healer. Just bring what you have and when the person can play it well, everything is fine. We don't have to have the perfect group combo to win. Or to quote a video game character from the 90ies... "Strong jobs... weak jobs... True masters will win with their favourite job." Because as long as you love doing it, you'll get your all out of the job ^^
TruckDrivinGamer: To date, White Mage is the only healer I feel comfortable with on controller. I usually wait to spam Holy on dungeon pulls until 15 to 30 seconds in, to allow time for the Tank to use up mits and let the burst happen, then stun lock, if there's any left vulnerable to it, while we burn them down. I don't know if it's optimal, but it always feels bad to waste 7 seconds of the tanks 30% and 40% mits. Additionally, while I can, and do, heal level 100 dungeons and normal trials and raids, I don't know if I will ever try high end stuff with it
4NSW3RM3: As a White Mage simp, I must Knight for them
They are the best for reasons
brontome: It is interesting to think that though whm shares this starter job problem with warrior, warrior got a far more favorable community reception.
izzy5576: It's the most fun healer in dungeons at least.
Lily-iu9ms: That point about holy is also very true for paladin at higher level, it sucks to have the WHM use holy and stun at the same time I'm using my burst and getting a ton of healing from the swords (people really underestimate how much self healing is built in with paladin's damage, it's a mini bloodwhetting every 60s)
neverbloom4717: at 70 WHM doesn't have any mits yet in my UCOB pf struggles I've seen it more than AST, like a 4:1 ratio its so weird
zacharydavis3579: As someone who does raid callouts and generally likes my difficulty to come from the fights themselves, WHM is a happy place and a home I can consistently return to without worrying about a million tools or resources.
DumBinchJuscal: Back when I first started this game, Conjurer was my first class because I almost always play healers in mmo's. I didn't like it and still don't to this day. I remember thinking: "Is healing not for me in this game?" Then I found out that there was another healer that I could play, I would just have to be dps for 30 levels. I hated those 30 levels as arcanist, but I got through it and unlocked Scholar. Eventually I tried Astrologian and Sage(which are now my favorites). It seemed like every new healer I tried, I liked it more than the one I was playing before. I don't know why, but White Mage actually feels harder to heal with than the others for me(I have gotten them all to 100)
