Which Job is the Funnest? FFXIV Job Tier List

seth7514: SAM is my main, but my favourite class is Gunbreaker. Nothing is more satisfying than beating high-end content not just because you dapped up your other tank and locked in, but also because you smacked the boss' health bar for massive DPS with a literal gunsword. Every sound effect is meaty and satisfying, your burst rotation is satisfying, your weapon is satisfying, Superbolide feels epic, every part of GNB just hits right for me. Like come on...you're reloading bullets into a gunsword. That's metal as hell.

thatszelda: reaper probably my favorite job rn, really flashy and has aura but pretty punishing when u die so it does require some amount of skill to optimize it all

mirai3266: Your AST placement is interesting. I absolutely despise the homogenization and simplification happening in the game since ShB but DT AST was a pleasant surprise for me. It's still not even close to Stormblood AST, but it's the most fun I've had with the job since. The cards actually have unique and interesting effects again instead of just boring damage increases, and they offer quite a bit (for modern FFXIV standards) of individual skill expression too.

HyouVizer: If you were there for when Stormblood was current, you'd enjoy Dark Knight even more, it was peak. You had way more to manage of your MP back then. Dark Arts was a consumable buff that used MP to give secondary effects to myriad of other actions. Abyssal Drain was a gcd instead, by dark arts buff turned it into warrior bledwhetting. Back then drk was the king of self-heals.

You also had dps stance that kept draining your MP, so was a balancing act using your abilities to restore it and knowing the best times to use MP skills when it mattered. Sadly every since Shadowbringers, they turned dark knight to the equivalent of you feel about black mages changes, or current summoner. Drk is super easy to management, its MP isnt really an skill issue anymore.

dynamicbluequark: Someone has finally managed to echo exactly how I feel about Blackmage. For me BLM was at its pinnacle in Endwalker, it was absolutely my main. Come Dawntrail I didn't play it in favour of Viper and having semi-recently returned after a long hiatus the changes to the class have not made me have any will to play it that much. Once I eventually get around to levelling it I'll probably still enjoy it, but the removal of the timer hurts. I still remember my sheer shock at messing around on it on a dummy and realising it wasn't there anymore. The class I fell in love with is no more.

cattysplat: RIP old summoner. You were a janky high maintenance mess of buttons, pets, dots and timers. But you were OUR ugly baby, unique and special that only those who persevered learned to master.

Emilia-u8p5p: imo dancer. such pretty animations and its like you are doing your own little minigame lol. also low pressure. amazing glams.

BiT.d-K: Congrats on maxing all the Real Jobs! My fave is Red Mage, but if I'm doing melee, I'm probably on Ninja because it plays a lot like a caster (at least to me).

Gaig3ingit: I played solely paladin up until I got Gunbreaker then rode gnb out until I hit shadow bringers since then I tried a bunch of other jobs but paladin had me getting it back on level just to continue the msq on it. I can't escape the cool shield, heavy armour and the beautiful animations passage of arms is probably my favourite animation in the game The aesthetic is so good. also I love how ffxiv's paladin ins't religious/holy focused like most other MMOS the lore of being guards of the sultan and then them mostly choosing their own values and codes is really refreshing in a fantasy setting

tyhjyys: dragoon has my favorite class fantasy but i still only like to play it in pvp . i really love that they're trimming the button bloat with evolved mode and focusing hard on job fantasy/personal uptime mechanics. so many jobs will likely shine soon instead of being at the whim of raid encounter focused design. if all goes well and the new phys ranged is the crossbow falconer job some people think it is, i might have a new favorite soon.

if not, every job should feel new again come evercold anyway. most excited i've been for this game in years.

mike-fb4fw: how you talked about black mage really reminds me of how i feel about astrologian after doing they gutted it and removed the stances etc

whitegale4374: I understand your views on viper but personally I love playing it as I really like the class fantasy and feel of the job but, it really is just press the glowing button simulator and the reveal of bastion with it's melee and ranged forms of it's weapons that seem to be something you actively switch between is giving me hope that they will flesh out the two forms of the twinfangs as at the moment aside from animation flair they don't really impact on gameplay at all.

TheWitchMobile: When the great detective knows started playing, I knew I found a man of culture

TheLMBLucas: You've pretty much SUMMarized the reason why I don't have a main anymore... it was Summoner. It is dead. It has been for years. Monk is now the one I use and it's a lot of fun I'd still prefer a mage.

Sorry you feel that way about Black Mage, but they objectively fixed it and made it soooo much better. It was such a painful job to use before, in general, for everyday content. It was hard to play for all the wrong reasons, that's bad design.

swalkeeatake3350: death's design is controversial because it is NOT just a dot, it is a mandatory gcd that has to be manually applied to a target to really deal true damage, this leads to fluctuations in performance between fights, where some fights with many adds or tagets lead to the reaper having to apply dd to every target one by one unless stacked, causing massive losses in damage and performance compared to other dps (m9s was one example iirc). At the end of the day dd is just another form of self buff, but way more limited. Also many reaper players feel the job is clunky to play because of drifting of your ogcds over longer fights, making the job feel more tedious to play, and not in an intended way

twooty2148: The Trails in the sky music had me absolutely smitten

SAKA701: Samurai and Dark Knight are my favs too. SAMs castbars really give it that oomph and then it has a small cooldown mitigation which you can use to optimize dmg(tengentsu/third eye). I love that shit. That latter half is also why I love DRK(TBN).

snoozingoriginal4263: pld uses shield bash to stun in solo deep dungeons so taking it away would directly make it harder to run it in that activity. also evolved shield bash is aoe and shares a hotbar slot with another ability.

zephyr7552: Summoner used to be the most complex and game breaking job in the game pre-endwalker, there were whole debates on whether Garuda or Ifrit Egi did more damage in Heavensward and Stormblood, Titan Egi was the best magic tank in the game to the point he was used over actual tanks in trails like Ramuh till he was gutted later in ARR but he was still usable up until shadowbringers where they just made him completely worthless.

The modern Summoner was made cause SE didn't know what to do with it because its main complaint from the base was it was too hard and intimidating to play for most people so they made what we have now. While I main Reaper now Summoner is still my secondary job since I was a Summoner main till endwalker so it has a special play in my heart, but I agree is very boring now, Im on auto pilot when I play it.

archdetective: I was a SMN and MNK main. Then, they were dumbed down.

So I switched to BLM and all those transpose lines. Again, dumbed down.

So I switched to NIN; granted it was also streamlined, but at least there's still friction when fucking up. I'll just apologize in advance because my curse will definitely dumb it down in evolved mode.

Multifridgeman: There is such a disconnect in expectation for job design between pre and post shadowbringers players. Old style was branching combos, situational abilities, and timers. New style is high potency, gauge builders, and 2-minute-cycles. Newer players want consistent and flashy rotations, while older players want mechanical depth and variety in how they play each job.

Personally I think they should stop releasing jobs and use the resources to improve the current ones, instead of making future job balance more difficult as time goes on.

noahbabcock8542: Bro no way I discovered and started watching your FF14 videos today and got sad you hadn’t posted in over a month this is crazy!

Wicca_P: As a mch main I love seeing it get love. It doesn't get enough recognition. Linking Reassemble Drill, air anchor, Reassemble Drill, Chainsaw, Excavator, Barrel Stabilizer - Wildfire - full metal then go into hypercharge rotation is fun to watch dmg

HamburgExpress: I used to think that tap targeting would be impossible for me to enjoy. But the intensity of playing as a healer really hooked me to tap targeting. FF14 has really solid enemy and player job design.

soulayr: This is awesome. Too many videos are focusing on perfection, who is better, who is more optimal and whatnot which is fine but everywhere and not just in FFXIV the focus almost always on "What is the best?" and too little on "What is fun?".

Like you can play optimally and on a high level while also keeping fun in as a factor, which is what I always do. I'd rather become good and well versed on something that I'm invested in and enjoy my time with while doing so. If it ends up also being slightly more optimal overall then that's a nice bonus.

Wish there was more content like this, where it leans more on the side of what you enjoyed and less on the "What did 2% more damage".

Thank you for that.

PS: Dancer is my current main job in Dawntrail and only level 100 for now and by far the job I'm having the most fun with, but I'm getting more and more warmed up to the idea of playing Pictomancer, which plays so massively different but some of the spells are just cool that I'm interested in properly learning my first caster.

Jeemo88: What helped me learn SCH and AST was to treat them more like preparation healers instead of recovery. Setting up my heals on a pseudo-healing rotation was the key. Certain buttons are catch-up, but those two jobs are S-tier for me right next to NIN, GNB, and DRK

arcdraconis9579: I love Nin too, it's true frantic window where you have to grow two extra arms to push through everything then just go back to your one two three that's very fun for me
