What Comes After Dawntrail? A FFXIV 8.0 Theory

kam_3953: I don't think we'll re-enter the Void until a timeskip/time dilation where the 13th has gone through a major change and when its residents evolve from aetherstarved beasts to a people we can interact with.

I'd love to see a Void Expansion but I feel with the inclusion of the new Variant Dungeon we'll de venturing into Corvos and perhaps Dalmasca if they're close by.

There is also returning to Hinganshi and seeing more of that land as they are apparently going through a contest for the shogunate now that Doma is liberated.

kleinTOD: We're pretty much done with the void for now. Its conflict is resolved and the shard is slowly healing.

If we're visiting any reflections, it should not be one that can already be accessed without the key.

The patch name implies delving into the mist which may or may not tease we're prepping up for exploring what's left of the rest of The Ninth.

The only thing that's certain is that the prospect of visiting Meracydia will continue getting blue balled for years to come.

pruuu731: I like your reasoning. I think it's worth mentioning that Graha functions as a tank also, and Unukalhai and Cliva may finally have their storyline tease paid off.

Personally crackpot copium is casting Sin FFX as a voidsent for raid

raysmooth1597: I feel like we need an expansion into the unsundered world to learn how to traverse the rift. A standalone expansion with Emet and Hythlodaeus as companions

IaconDawnshire: It's too early to head back into the Void. It's gonna be a hot minute for all of that Light Aether to dissipate and cancel out the Dark Aether

ChristopherG1990: “I think it would be incredible if the warrior of light gets separated”

Serious question, did you skip Heavensward and Shadowbringers?

We were separated from the scions for most of the heavenward base story, and then you speak of seeing the scions holdout on their own? They held their own on the First for years due to the time dilation and again we were practically separated from them, only reuniting with them zone by zone as the story progressed.

Zoeila: there's one major problem with a void expansion. there's no physical landmasses there only domains its basically a gas giant of darkness with the landmasses being the domains of powerful voidsent. youd have to do something crazy like dimensionally fuse the void with another shard.

ReyReyzzz: i hope we someday get an expansion that revisits old areas. it's really not a good idea for every expansion to introduce a new place (just look at world of warcraft's world and its sad state, they kept constantly creating new areas and now most of the world is stuck in time and not progressing at all, and have been so for over a decade now).

its more sustainable to go back and expand on old areas instead of constantly creating new ones. I'm sure a lot of people would love to know more about the twelveswood and the elementals, or expand more on Ul'dah's old and bloody history that not a lot of people know of. it's exciting and it has a big nostalgia factor that no new area/zone can ever have.

MysticBlackMan: I‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ can see where you're coming from, but thematically becoming a Reaper doesn't line up this time. In the past we've changed Jobs to adapt to the local culture of that expansion, like in Heavensward, Stormblood, and Dawntrail. We've also switched Jobs to counter and exploit our opposition's weaknesses, like in Shadowbringers and Endwalker. So, if we are "Voidbound" in 8.0, then I'd say that this narrative fits much closer to the latter rather than the former.

As you know, in ShB we became a "Dark Knight" to bring back Darkness to the Light of the First. Thematically, like a DRK, we sacrificed our health to protect our loved ones and consequently consumed the light. As for EW, to defeat the dark abyss of despair, we don the mantle of "Paladin" and become the light in the dark that illuminates the path to a brighter future.

I know you're following the rule of cool, and at first glance Reaper makes perfect sense for the setting. However, this is less about adapting to the local environment of the 13th and more of a fight to restore the natural balance. With that said, I feel that this could be the team's best opportunity to have a caster as the face of an expansion, more specifically, a healer! This could be White Mage's time to shine; imagine seeing a healer purifying and cleansing the corruption of darkness, all while looking ethereal, divine, and badass at the same time!

shade5640: I think if someone joins the Scions as a dedicated tank, it'd be Zero. She became a Paladin at the end of Endwalker

cynthiathewitch: Hmm… I haven’t watched the full video yet. But I am sceptical of a Void expansion. If only for one big reason; the void can not be cleansed explicitly because of reaper’s existence as a class/discipline. Sure it could take hundreds and thousands of years, but it creates a confirmed death of a discipline and may create other issues.

However… what I personally believe is that we’re going to be going to multiple shards. I suspect in patch .5 or .55 with part 2 of the msq, the scions are going to be blasted across multiple shards by the Alexandrian gateway device, perhaps Calyx manages to get hold of the key temporarily and as one last act of defiance against the WoL spites him with its use, leaving an impetus for the WoL to gain new allies to find his old ones. Perhaps it’s even a good time to kill off some of the scions and open up shard travel to common folk too.

WickedOniNagi: Wasnt Xeno the rpr, he even did the rpr lb in the benchmark

Kefka_Reborn: ah man reaper or ninja finally appearing on the wol in a trailer would be sick. They're both so flashy in game they could go crazy. I eventually would like to see all jobs in a trailer at some point..

thisisnotargun: Super cool ideas! I totally agree I think a void based expansion is very likely! I always had a theory that it would be 9.0 and not 8.0, but who knows it could be next expansion! I'm hyped for 7.4 where hopefully we get more hints at 8.0. Great video!

Edge2177: SE usually gives 2 expansions before recapturing into a story element, and given that World of Darkness was literally the last expansions post it's too soon. So Void in 9 makes more sense to me. Remember we got Shadowbringer - GNB/DNC with DRK as the tank for the expansion role job. This is the predictable jobs being added. So it's likely a new tank job as the new expansion job. Which I'm leaning towards a hammer tank job with Rune Knight, and a ranged job with gun/sword Corsair. Sort of a reverse Red Mage physical ranged hybrid.

ugxsan: A thought I’ve had with the “Winterer” stuff is that the expansions are gonna take on a seasonal identity. Similar to how ARR to Endwalker was day to night to dawn of a new day, Dawntrail was Summer. So we need an Autumn or Fall expansion next. Void could easily fit that. The Winterers whether they’re really ice-themed or not would be a focus of a Winter-themed expansion and that’d work very well for maybe an Ilsabard expac. Then Spring after that. Maybe finally heading to Meracydia.

IshDream: The game needs a new player start point, one where new players can jump into the story without the baggage of everything that has come before.

This makes "Into the Mists" potentially interesting, and we will see very soon how interesting. Mists are a classic narrative device for isolation and memory loss.

hippiechick73: Interesting and logical ideas, but I wouldn’t like the void again. I didn’t enjoy going there, with the drab, depressing surroundings and inhabitants. Personally, I think that the shard thing is going to have to resolve, with no Hydaelyn and Zodiark anymore. Maybe the star wants to return to normalcy and the shards start to pull together as if by gravity. I’m also thinking that G’raha has more soul-dense than any of the others and may have a looming existential crisis. I can also see the weakened Garlemald attacked by another nation.

packoNewportonrs: The void was also set up at the end of ShB so using the gap theory Dawntrail should of been the void.

DranCh: Interesting speculation, and aligns with my thoughts on what is coming up next. My only disagreement is on what the "Winterers" stand for. I don't think we are going back to an ascian-themed arc, becasue that has been done and Yoshi P has several times said that in broad strokes, the story of the Ascians is over. This means that the ascian teased at the end of 7.3 is likely a red herring, or they are just the catalyst toward the next big conflict and not the next main antagonist.

My own pocket theory is that the "Winterers" are a coalition or group of people from different shards who have escaped or survived their respective calamities (in the same way the Alexandrians did) and are holding out while finding a new place, or shard, to claim as their own new home. The Ascians (afaik there's only a couple left) involved perhaps are rogue ascians who reneged of Emet's plans and are trying to make good for the lives they destroyed, and thus are aiding these survivors with knowledge to help them survive and reach their goals, which would explain why they would provide the likes of Calyx, the secrets behind the mastery of Electrope and eternal life.

This, of course, could all align well with a Voidbound expansion - not only would we get to revisit that unfinished chapter with Zero and Golbez (who would probably finally take off his armor and get a full model glow-up for the expansion), it would definitely give the writing team an excuse to bring back Ryne and Gaia who are fan-favorites, and SE kinda need to both deliver something new as well as play it safe by bringing back character they know the players love. If not the void, perhaps we will be heading toward another shard that the winterers have set their eye on - though that could also be the mid-expansion twist.

Looking forward to all the clues well get this week when 7.4 lands!

chinsehatori5815: Discounts Nin cuz of Rin but doesnt discount RPR despite zero joining us in a Potenical Void expac.

DemiseReturns: I really hope we do get a tone similar to what you described. Us being on our lonesome, like in the beginning of Shadowbringers, would be awesome. Seeing the Scions trying to find us and fighting for us, getting to play as them with silly little minigames like shooting darts at strangers would be a good bonus

kythanos: Going back to the void would also let us go merge with the shard of Azem we left behind for some reason

Rabfour: Hello hello! Watching!

willowkaiser4036: I think at some point it will point back to the ancients again or emet selch and elidibus they left pieces open for it
