MikesDescent: You want my hot take? Content in this game is too slow to release and at the wrong times. Why would they wait so long to release a deep dungeon? Most people that level all jobs are already done at that point and doing content and benefiting from it in more ways than one is best. OC should've been accessible at level 90 and would be able to level. I mean sure make it so you had to finish DT in order to unlock it but then let it be 90 . I just feel SE needs to understand how players operate during the expansion.
barcey: Time for another of Lady Barcey's spicy takes: Let Alphinaud and Alisiae grow up already. Those two have been kids for years now and deserves a growth spurt after all the stuff they've been through. It could even lead to some hilarity where the other Scions see them all grown up and wonder who they are.
andrewmiller6264: Hot take. If you are truly miserable with XIV? Just. Stop. Playing. Crying, kicking and screaming about every little thing you don’t like about it is just ruining it for the rest of us who are still having a good time. Or if you are going to stick around, then stop dragging the rest of us down into your pit of misery. Stop acting like spoiled children throwing a tantrum over not getting as many Christmas presents as they got last year.
Edit: Just to address some of the comments, there is a world of difference between constructive criticism and bitching temper tantrums. Criticism is great so long as it’s constructive and not being said in a way as to put down or degrade. Tantrums are what I am calling out.
SilentCrypts-j2d: Grind Good. RNG bad. Fuck RNG. RNG should not be a thing.
Edit: Also, If the entire life of this expansion comes down to 'oh yeah it was a really good expansion for the last 4 months before the next expansion launched'....that is a bad expansion overall for the majority of its life.
brownyq4135: The demiatma grind isn't even that bad. People forget that relics are long term goals, and you have "at worst" until 7.3 before the next step drops. That's two months to get 18 random drops. The community's obsession with speedrunning all content like starved inmates when a plate of food is placed before them is sad. Grind content for hours every day and anything will feel like a chore before long.
jellybryce7742: OC is great. Just think the gold farm stuff is dumb.
richardlane3417: I think people are wrong around the content, people absolutely no lifed OC. No wonder they’re bored,
If it followed other games, half of it would be content locked and people would be annoyed then.
There’s so much content in the game.
No-RE-q1w: My biggest issue with the devs is that they won't commit to either side. Sometimes they'll make engaging and difficult content, but then the casuals whine yet stay subbed anyways. Then they'll make it turbo braindead and then everyone gets bored and unsubs. They need to stop listening to the few bitchy people who are bad at video games and just listen to their core MMO demographic so that the game can stay alive.
mrsonicedge: For me the problem isn't the grind, I played enough TT to get the card mount and I'm currently going through the Firmament to get the Pterodactyl mount. The problem is (for me atleast) is that it is 100% uncontrolled rng. I been doing OC with my friend when it first dropped and we've been grinding for 4 hours. He got 5 demiatma while I got 0. Later we found out we had to get 18 in total and I was actually dreading it. If we could turn in Gold or Silver for the demiatma that be great or hell if we had to get 18 at least up the spawn rate.
38spoonman: I don’t know how much of a hot take it is. But I wish glamour wasn’t limited to role. I play mostly dps but i like the armored knight style sets that tanks get and i just wish you could glam what you want
coryaustin7379: Idk about FATEs being more interesting if you go somewhere else. Every FATE is the exact same. You kill 15 mobs, you kill 15 mobs and talk to an NPC to "turn in" items, you talk to an NPC and kill 15 mobs while moving, you kill one big mob. That's it, that's every single FATE no matter where you are in the game. The lack of creativity from the devs is actually astounding. We had one FATE that they tried to do something a little different where you follow a boss mob FATE from point A to B and have to kill it before it reaches the town and that idea was NEVER used again.
Nman222223: The grind is fine, the biggest sin of OC is NO QUEUE FOR FORKED TOWER. The barrier to entry is so high for “casual content” bozja had queues and people loved it now it’s trying to get an 8 stack of people and hoping you can get 4 other 8 stacks in the same instance that want to do the content. This should have been 3 steps forward from bozja but it’s like 1 1/2 steps back from where it should be, and 4 steps from what we expected
markcollier3644: My hot take: Final Fantasy XIV has a content creator problem, and has had one for a while. Most of the folk who make content for the game for YouTube aren't particularly creative or insightful, and during a period of low content during the Endwalker patches, leaned heavily into rage bait for views, and now make that their bread and butter. It's best to just cleanse your feed of most XIV content creators.
vfaulkon: I've seen people who've already mastered ALL of the phantom jobs for OC already. I worry that these people have not slept since the content came out and have just lived on that island... which is part of not only this problem, but the larger problem with MMO audiences in general (and here's my hot take):
Players of persistent online games will RUIN the game for themselves, and potentially others, if you let them. I see it here, I saw it in WoW, and while how WoW dealt with gearing was a mess in a lot of ways, player attitudes towards it just made it worse. If the devs are smart, and I like to think they are, they'll recognize the complaints of players like this, take them into consideration, but not make them the primary focus going forward, because you cannot win with them.
I've done a lot of relic weapon grinding in this game - all but three ARR relics, halfway with Heavensward, not touching Stormblood because Eureka is pain, and I have all the weapons of Bozja and Endwalker because it's fun for me and I also am mentally ill. What I can tell you about these grinds (save Endwalker) is this - they're meant to take time. Like, a LOT of time. By my reckoning, assuming a similar pace to Bozja, we're not getting a new zone to explore for the relic grind until 7.4; in Bozja, after clearing the first zone, the next step took you to a standalone raid that was the main step for at least a patch or two. It's not guaranteed they'll do the same thing here, but there's a solid chance that OC content is meant to last a few months... and people are blitzing it in a week? No wonder they're burned out on it, however they choose to articulate it.
But that's what some players in MMOs do. Don't give them a hard cap? They'll no-life the content, then complain there's nothing left to do. Tell them to pace themselves, they'll ignore you. I promise you, if endgame tomestones weren't capped to 450 a week, or current raid loot to one drop per fight per week, they would LIVE in that content 'til they got everything, then complain about having to do only two Expert dungeons a thousand times or how easy the current fights are as if the devs made them do each fight a hundred times a week.
Worst part is, there's no real solution either, because the problem may be with a subset of the player base, but the solution is largely personal and involves each of those players self-reflecting and choosing to be okay with sub-optimal progression or not racing to the finish line. No amount of advice will reach someone if they don't want to hear it, and if those players have come from a game like WoW, which is more expectant of that behavior, it's all the harder to get them to change. You can't MAKE someone be more patient.
Just to be clear, I don't say this to disregard people's complaints about OC - it's not perfect by any means - but even just doing enough of it to fill out the Challenge Log for the bonus job EXP each week has helped me make considerable progress in a short time, so running it just a couple of hours a week means I'll get everything I want out of it soon enough, and probably well before the next step comes out. Certainly before the end of the expansion, and that's the true lifespan of this content really.
Shante-k1f: Yes, everyone whining is the problem. Its always been. Whining about Eureka got us Bozja, a now dead zone where its impossible to get into the dalriada. Whining about Bozja is what caused field exploration to just not exist at all because it was "too grindy" for players. Now we finally got this kind of content back and we are back to square 1. And this is only when talking about this kind of content, when you look at why jobs feel samey, its also because of players whining, they couldnt get into groups because it was slightly worse to bring their job than the alternatives. Everything that is "bad and boring" in ff14 to this day was bought about by the playerbase's complaints, including the lack of content, because everyone wants everything for free and as fast as possible with the minimum amount of effort. The state of the game reflects that playstyle, yet in this expansion alone, it seems like they are actually trying to look away from those complaints that only damage the game.
bene5594: The sad thing about the demi's are that if you grind them out in zones outside of the OC, you get better incentives. You can do it while lvling alts, you get bicoloured gems helping you along in that grind. Meanwhile all you get in the OC is inzone currency and some exp for the inzone jobs while constantly doing the same few CE/fates there are wich can't compare to the vareity that they have in the open world.
sevenandone71: Actually, i can compare it to ARR Relic, i was there back in 2.0 pre-nerf. Why? Because of RNG. I've been playing the content and doing my relics with both my main and alt. My main, while playing 8-9h a day, it took me 12 f'n days to get my 18 demi-atmas. Yep, over 100hours of Fates and CE. On the other hand, my alt in 3 days playing only 2-3 h a day, already got 8. I've spend the first 3 days after the patch(2 in occult, 1 farming fates in dawntrail area all day long and got 0 atmas!!!). My alt already had 3 after 4 hours of playing(i wasn't lvl 10). My nephew play the game aswell...got his first relic in 2 days!! A friend of mine, spend days after days doing fate and got nothing!!! I know, i play with him in my party for 10 hours straight and got nothing too. So yup, it's basically the same time it take me to collect the atmas in 2.0
0siris-Abraxas: Here is my hot take. The post 7.0 MSQ is actually freaking good shit. Its what I actually wanted for Sphenes character where she was actually a victim of the plot and not pushing the plot. Its leaning back on the Warrior of Light as Sphene is engaging with us and not fucking Wuk Lamat.
777rick777: I find with the occult crescent, and the relic grind at this point I want to finish it so I can stop playing it, mostly because I'm already burned out on, and I'm one demiatma away and I just want to be done already
lu1958: Just from my Pov, ive been oddly seeing the tables turn. Now im seeing more positive feedback for WoW and more negative feedback for FF14. My take i really hate gearing in FF14 and how long it takes especially if you decide to switch jobs, WoW right now just throwing gear at you even on alts. The one thing i will say for FF14 vs WoW gearing atleast in FF14 you can just be done with gearing where as WoW it seems like youre always climbing.
DeidaraKoroski: Im so glad that you hammer in how subjective this entire thing is, im so so sick of people saying "this isnt for me therefore everyone else hates it too"
upsidecloud8700: My hot take: there will always be players upset with everything they release. The relic grind is proof.
yabiyabi: People are not complaining about the lack of variety or lack of content being here (A lot like to complain for the sake of complaining)
The problem is the release time, from expansion hype a year prior, to needing to wait over a year for first half of the promises....
A lot of things I was excited, but I no longer had excitement. I am a heavy deep dungeon fan/lover. But even that taking this long, I lost appetite.
DarkDyllon: my issue with OC's grind is that it's abysmal RNG, overal the zone is "fine" it doesn't blow me away, the CE's are fine, but they start repeating their mechanics stupidly fast, as demonstrated in this video, you kill the adds and the boss just alternates between out, in and exa's in that order.
I like big meaty grinds, but I dislike heavy RNG grinds, there is no light at the end of the tunnel, you can be done tomorrow, you can done in 1 month.
I rather that they had require me to get 99 of each demi atma, but I had a more consistent way of getting the atma's.
A grind becomes good once you realize that you're getting closer, having a clear road ahead of you gives more motivation than praying that RNG finally favours you.
i'm already done with my demi atma, but I felt damned well near demoralized and bored when I was grinding it out in the overworld fates, the 1st few went relatively fast, but then the last few took 4-6 hour, and it didn't feel like I was getting closer to the end either, I knew that this fate could be the last ... or that 1 ... or that 1 ... or that 1.
Also, having the forked tower be inside OC itself is just ... why? they had that with BA and people disliked it then, they then fixed it in Bozja with DR and DRS being queue'd from the outside.
But now they revert back to BA?
iceman3317: I don't mind the demi crystal grind. In fact, I'd rather do that than do the tomestone grind. We were promised there would be multiple ways to get relic weapons, but instead, it is just the same thing that we did before. We should have a choice to do Demi and tomestone separate to get our weapons. At least then, we'd have a reason to go back after our first weapon is finished. Plus I just freaking hate doing the same damn dungeon over and and over again and barely get any tomestones. At least with Demis, I can also do fates and get bicolor gems for things I dont have.
Firestar1992: Mild take: I'm okay with the limit, but 450 is way too small of a cap. I'd rather they just make it 900 for the whole patch cycle.
Hot take: I want the 1.0 cutscenes to be viewable in the Unending Journey. I don't necessarily want to play 1.0, but it should would be nice to actually see our character in the scenes that get referenced over and over. That one scene with Cid in ARR confirms that it was our character back then. Plus the choreography and the like were beautiful back then and it's a shame that because the system of playing sucked that those scenes are doomed to be lost to obscurity. I liked what I saw in many of those scenes better than what we got in ARR.
