kdynce8637: Achievement hunters: We aspire to get EVERY achievement!
Yoshi P: I'll make you eat those words.
scaper12123: The struggle with South Horn is that the rate of fates and CEs are so high that the content is quickly exhausted. The brighter flame burns out quicker.
selay333: When it comes to forked tower all they need to do is switch it to a queable instance at the village. If they really want to they can keep the currency to get in for a while.
DoctorPlato: Forked Tower should have had 2 diffiulties.
Breadumi: Forked Tower is some of the best and most fun content they've ever done, locked behind the single worst entry system they could have possibly devised. It's a shame that almost no one participating in OC will ever get to set to foot in it. Really, really hoping SE changes it, but seeing how BA was left untouched, I just don't have any faith anything will happen. Please, please, please let me be wrong though
TheKarishi: /twirl definitely doesn't only drop from the carrots, because I haven't gotten a carrot yet and I have it already. Not sure whether I even found it in a gold chest from a pot - It might have been silver or even bronze.
scaper12123: Man, Squenix really are fans of “dedicate your entire life to FFXIV” achievements, aren’t they?
unitmikey7: love that Mr. Spider always has the "Child Labor" quest pinned in every video, always makes me laugh
BazzFreeman: At nearly 70 years old, I'm a casual player. I reached level 14 in OC and just noped out. After 3 full day (I'm retired, so no time constraints) I got a grand total of 4 atma.
I quite liked Bosja - the choices to gather the things were great - no FC online? Go do dungeons or Crystal Tower. FC available, run CEs and FATES and the Raids. It was nice. I got 5 Relics done.
This time, I just can't be arsed and I've basically stopped playing entirely right now. First time since 2019.
venabre: From what I've seen trying to consider supply and demand for content in XIV, I would expect the carrots to go down in price over time. Supply is the highest it will ever be, yes, but demand is also the highest it will ever be. There will always be a constant trickle of players sure, but the bulk of the people interested in getting the achievements are doing so now. And they are outpacing the supply of carrots. As more and more players get their achievements it gives the content a chance to settle down to a more stable flow, and prices will go down.
I say this as someone who has made the mistake of assuming that prices for items would increase after the prime of the content, only to see them slowly fall down as demand for those items decreased.
RockR277: It's really funny that they let you enter FT with 16 and immediately hit you with a 24 person body check. Feels like a deliberate F U lmao.
Razash: It is so sad that blood tower is fun. IF YOU CAN GET INSIDE.
The design of the encounters inside is also questionable. DRS and BA were designed around "you screw up, you die", tower has several instances of "you screw up, everyone dies" - that is not how 48-man content should be designed.
I have seen instances of people doing "instance prog" (trying to get everyone into the same instance) for close to 2 hours, even hopping datacenters because it just wouldn't work on the first one. Then wait 30 minutes for tower weather. To be in the tower for 30 minutes.
It's just bad.
masamunedomo: I don't see it lasting the month to be honest. By then most people will have most of their goals, and only the ones who want to do everything will remain
SE should have known better about the tower, after all look how fast people dropped the Chaotic after most found it not really doable with random people.
KamitsureKaine: The Forked Tower situation is depressing. This is the type of content I love the most, and I was fully expecting it to be like Castrum Lacus Litore or The Dalriada. I've tried to organise people to join and participate with Forked Tower every day for hours since it was released. I've gotten in once with sixteen people, and immediately wiped at the bodycheck.
rustyjones7908: I've yet to see one carrot.
TuftyTaltan: This is content that's going to sunset itself if they don't fix it
Julessian: Doing the CEs and fates were fun at first. On day 1, it was the most fun I had in awhile since the mechanics were cool and interesting. However, now that its been simmering for quite awhile and getting all the demiatmas required for the first step of the relics, this place feels so empty and unalive. Its a constant slog of kill>rush to fate/CE>kill. I have no idea who said it was a good idea to scrap all the improvements that Bozja had not make this place a leveling area.
On the topic of demiatmas, aside from the extremely painful drop rates and RNG, the fact that certain atmas are locked behind zones in CE is absolutely horrible. This wouldn't be an issue if it were like Bozja where fates were constant, in different zones per one time, etc. CE took a step back and essentially forces you to do EVERY SINGLE CE/FATE that spawns just to make the next one spawn faster, and just pray that the fate/CE that spawns is in a zone that you need. Its so bad man
Snowmanse: I feel like they didn't think this stuff through properly. I have capped every single phantom job, except ranger, because it never dropped. So I have to hang out in south horn doing nothing, for a boss that spawns every 2 hours at most, for a drop that just isn't happening. I grinded Bozja forever because there was a lot of stuff to work towards. South horn is just an absurd RNG mess trying to force you to play longer through rng.
AbsoluteEse: I think I'm the right audience for content like this lol, being someone who did over 300 BA runs, spent years guiding randoms through Eureka and making guides - proper field instance addict :')
Obviously extremely biased opinions here. I think the South Horn itself is... strange. At the moment, it's hitting the right itch for me in terms of the grind, but I am very confused about the level not mattering at all, and even the special gear doesn't matter much. The way it all scales is very uneven between different phantom jobs, it doesn't mesh with real jobs either, so leveling seems almost...worthless? Unless you want to do FT. CEs are popping way too often, FATEs scale super weirdly, and people just don't need to work together or communicate at all for this reason. So, its a shame. I feel like it lacks just a liiiiittle bit of something to make it the best field instance, so it actually feels the worst, cause of how repetitive it is.
However, I think they did Forked Tower almost perfectly. 72 people instances are better than 144 people instances in long term. I remember, for BA, we had a looooot of trouble getting the groups in after the first few weeks have passed cause only 1-2 instances were open on Chaos, so you could host a single run at the time, and it was very very common to be stuck in Kugane for 2 hours waiting for the opportunity to get everyone into the same one.
With 72 people, its easier to get new instances to open more quickly, it's going to be much better in longterm. Also, BA was almost exclusively done via discords since the beginning, so I think SQEX is counting on it. It's a weird thing to count on, but I do think it's good for the longevity of the content to have people queue from inside the South Horn, cause you'll always have newbies interacting with the veterans and that can be very nice later.
Two mistakes I feel they have made:
1) Not allowing us to queue with more than 8 people into South Horn. Super bad choice, they should have at least allowed an alliance to queue, so you had 2 groups to worry about and not 6
2) Making a mandatory 24 player mechanic on the very first boss where they require 16 people to enter. It's creating a lot of confusion with the people, and many who want to try, don't want to risk spending any cyphers without even the ability to get some loot back cause the first boss will likely kill them simply due to an enumeration mechanic. BA also scales down to 24, but it has no such mechanics, so these days people make challenge runs where 7, 8 and 10 people have cleared it, and its a lot of fun they have sort of just excluded from ever happening, by design.
At the moment, as a guide maker, I see no reason to make a guide on this content (the isle, not FT), which tells you all you need to know about its complexity and depth. A bit of a shame, and I do wonder how that'll be reflected on the longevity of the field instance itself later.
TenzaBurabura: Suggested fixes (for myself and any readers, I know square won't see this)
- Give Oracle an ability that makes carrots drop more often, like the 30min starting job buffs.
- Give Thief a cooldown that leads you to a pot chest, and the ability to steal soul shards from bosses if their health is low enough and they die. By the time someone can afford thief they've probably earned some help with shard drops.
- Give Geomancer the ability to predict when the special weather is about to happen (you get various messages, one of which basically means "you don't have time to do a CE, get to the pavilion" but sounds cool, like "about to get swept up in the magic of the island!")
I feel like if they fixed the game by buffing the jobs we would turn around and give them a ton of credit.
DariusSnjor: Casual playera waited a whole year for the supposed casual content, and they pull in with the Forked Tower
FieldMarshall3: I didn't think it was possible to make a queue system worse than DR but here we are somehow. Drop the token requirement. Drop the weather requirement. Let people create their own 48 man groups and queue. Let people queue whenever they want. Let people wipe inside the raid. Increase the time limit. Let people change phantom jobs inside. Dont de-level people when they die. Let people queue as smaller groups and adjust damage/health to compensate like in DR. Im not even complaining about the difficulty of the fights, i like hard content, its just everything about this raid is just so unnecessarily annoying and unfun to deal with for no reason.
amahashadow: I got twirl in my first silver. After 246 chest, still haven't seen a lucky carrot
KyoukiJuuno: OC certainly makes you question a few things. SE stated that DT is supposed to be a very multiplayer focussed expansion. Fine and well, but how come the accessibility for the implementations we got so far, which are Chaotic Cloud and Forked Tower, is so ridiculous that most people go to the "thanks I'm good" response before you're even done explaining? It doesn't feel like the focus really is on providing multiplayer so much, it's more about locking multiplayer opportunities behind as many hurdles as can be. Cloud's difficulty - or more like the one silly body check the fight had - prompted people to gatekeep it in party finder by setting ridiculous item level requirements, demanding people to have 10 kills or 20 kills, and worst of all some discords started farming first timers by offering carries for 5-6 people that had never cleared, only to then leave them in a state where they had achieved one kill but were entirely unable to farm for loot. Now Forked Tower prompts people to gatekeep it by demanding you have mastered all jobs, have a full OC gearset upgraded to 1, basically the requirement is having done a 50 hour grind before you find that you now need to join a discord if you want to get anywhere, or else your farm was for naught. Like, what even is this? This is as hostile an environment as you can make it on both instances, plus so far it seems that neither are these situations acknowledged or addressed by the devs. It almost feels like they want to hammer in another death nail after barely surviving the catastrophic reception of DT's MSQ and allowing another post-release content void to happen for no reason.
Shiraumere: I feel like they just make numbers up for some of these achievements and don't actually understand how long those achievements would realistically take.
Especially with how incredibly out of touch CBU3 is with the community and the game itself at this stage.
The way they designed Forked Tower is insane to me tho, the amount of times I've heard people argue that they don't want to enter it with a group of randoms because it's such a technical and hard check with such a harsh penalty that people just either straight up don't want to do it or want to wait till entire tutorials and run plans have been laid out for them so they can follow that and thus no one wants to do it because by the time those tutorials came out people already got burned out on OC.
Genuinely don't understand why they didn't take the Bozja design route for the instances for this. Eureka overworld grinding with Bozja instancing would've been pretty much perfect.
For me personally I had the intention of getting every relic started, get a full set of armour, get all the things and clear the forked tower at least once like I've done in every other piece of grind-content but.. OC just feels incredibly stale and boring to a point I couldn't get myself to play anymore after a week and having achieved none of the things I wanted to do. It's honestly a shame cus I looked really forward to it.
RockR277: To answer the personal content lifespan question, man idk. Ain't even halfway through ph job leveling, no where near getting all I want from the antiquarian, I do wanna do FT at some point, but I'm very burned out already. I'm probably just gonna keep playing it bored.
Maria_Erias: I'm not sure how much time I'm going to put into OC. The first week alone, I put probably 20-25 hours into it with friends, like 4-5 hours a day. Since then... maybe 5 total. Why? Because of the demiatma drops. In my 30ish total hours, I've gotten exactly three in total. One of my friends had 2, another had 8, another had 11. When people were still trying to figure out the drop rates in FATEs outside of OC, I did 30 FATEs in Yak'tel with a couple of friends, and none of us got any. That lack of reward for my time and effort kind of killed it for me. Of my group of me and 3 friends who went after it hardcore, only one continued on to get her relic weapon. The lack of any kind of consistency with the drops, the lack of any kind of deterministic way to get them, really just kicked the motivation to the curb. It's become a "Yeah, we'll get back to it... eventually," sort of content. Even something like being able to buy the initial demiatma with coins, even if it was like 2000 coins per shard, would be fine. Just... something
