The Sad Truth About FFXIV DDoS Attacks

cooliod00d: Yeah, no. I disagree. Not fully, but to some degree. The cold, hard fact is that every other somewhat popular MMO spends more money on better ISP's with better mitigation and, surprise surprise, they have much less server crashes or player DC's related to DDoS attacks. FF14 is approx. 10x more likely to have server crashes or waves of DC's related to DDoS attacks. It is, at the very least, partially SE's fault, and we really need to stop ignoring the responsibilities SE has for their fucking product. What really brings my piss to a boil is the absolute radio silence we get from SE on this matter.

I used to ignore a lot of issues that plaqued the game, because SE was usually quick to address them and even if they couldn't fix something right away they at least laid out some sort of plan on how they would deal with it in the future. But that doesn't seem to be the case with this situation whatsoever.

They will have to do A LOT to build back trust in 8.0, cause if that shit backfires as much as this cursed expansion then I'll take my business elsewhere.

WulfilaBelmont: I just wish Square Enix would offer some degree of time paid back to the player's subscription time to make up for lost time during DDoS, and emergency maintenance. As far as "better" ISPs, and "10x times more likely", in regards to other comments claiming it's Square Enix, I'll believe the facts/evidence when I see them.

Dhalin: It's a pity the little script kiddies have nothing else better to do than to ruin the internet for everybody else.

jjmirah819: I've literally been offline for 2 days because of this...

ZerotH81: I quit a year ago, mainly because of this. My service was interrupted 4 days a week on average during a three month period. The same copy/paste response from SE certainly did not inspire confidence. I refuse to pay for something I can't enjoy. I see nothing has changed.

issacehowardjr679: I heard that some of the NA servers were shut down in the States. By SE. Just saying, so please quit making excuses for SE. The US seems to be the one affected for the last 3 weeks or so. Again, just saying.

melissas4874: I did traces with and without a VPN and what I noticed was after 2 jumps it all went through an NTT server. NTT doesnt just service FFXIV so if people want to be disruptive, it makes more sense to attack these nodes since it affects multiple businesses. The issue is if you are on BMWs website, you may be slightly annoyed at the time it takes to load the page. It isn't the same as a game service so these companiesay not notice it as much or care that it is happening.

ttabood7462: Maybe we need to flood every space with images, memes, and talk about the bs instability to the point that FFXIV becomes synonymous with 'unplayable'.

pedromoreira6218: The company still operates with the idea the game has as high as a good will as shadowbringers they can't just bury their heads in the sand anymore

BStar870: So players are getting mad at the company for not being bullet proof instead of the source of the DDoS attacks?

I wouldn't be surprised if these malicious attacks were coming from within the player base; specifically Dawntrail haters who don't want people enjoying the expansion because it doesn't cater to their specific tastes.

fll42: Can we travel from US servers to Oceania? I thought we were locked in the region of the character.

Sinnersslayer: I am in Europe and also experiencing constant disconnections and also got forced to use ExitLag ...

sipseygimp: Lego game for lego people

Dio____Brando: I went to dynamis with my bro and we ddnt crash once

ttabood7462: As consumers we don't have to care about the 'why or how'. We aren't getting the service we're paying for, so the host of that service is responsible. If it's not on our end then it's theirs no matter where in the grand technical infrastructure the problem is.

HK: Example...

If I were a businessman with my hands in many different ventures one of which being a car lot that you bought a car from, when that car stopped working and I gave you excuses and I told you that I couldn't fix it because of banking or some other issue, would that even matter?

Just_an_urn: The more you know

Tetsuo_88: So instead of the game provider fixing the issue, the solution is for players to pay extra for a server transfer or a VPN, on top of the $12 monthly subscription?

I was told the cash shop is required to make up operating costs guess I should have spent more money there. I'm very sorry guys It's my fault for thinking 30 USD is too much for a fucking mount.

cloudoftomo: I disagree with this video and your narrative because it's not DDOS that NA is suffering from.

don't spread misinformation.

it's due too people summoning retainers under certain circumstances which lead to the servers crashing.

literally said it in the hot fix post.

toscatattertail9813: This has gone on for as long as i can remember..usually at the opening of a new patch or when there are other major events. ( been in game since closed beta).

My solution is to have multiple characters, I have characters on the European data centers (Chaos and Light) , I also have one character on each of the North American Data centers because there is no way 6 Data centers are going down unless the whole system has crashed (real common at patch or expansion releases)

If you want to avoid some of this don't be one of the Thousands that HAVE to jump onto the game the moment a new patch goes live (i wait a day or 3 before trying new content. And be aware of what time zone the NA data center is located in and avoid times where congestion is the worst. (Check the server time because they are scattered across 4 time zones)

ImSofaKingGood: Probably Chinese Communist Party-funded saboteurs disrupting Japanese and American businesses by attacking the US-based NTT node. Vague possibility of Russia but less likely.

unknownfate1985: have you actually read for what the maintenance was before you have uploaded this? I'm pretty sure issues in regards of retainer bells and mech-ops crashing the servers has nothing to do with DDoS Attacks.

Makoraias: SQEX prefers to spend their money on NFTs, trend-chasing, and games nobody wanted or asked for. Reinvesting the money from their most popular MMO back into said MMO? Psh, who do you think they are? Blizzard?

Here, have an (almost) single patch update for an entire year until the next expansion comes out. Meanwhile, they will ignore all server issues because they know that they have a dedicated playerbase that will accept just about anything and defend SQEX from any and all criticism from anyone who complains!
