The HARDEST Healer to Play in FFXIV Dawntrail?!

notmousse: Calling it now, Warrior.

Osteichthyes: Comment section please keep in mind:

"Each job has it's strengths and weaknesses, it's mostly about how well a person deals with the hardest aspects. What is simple for one might be difficult for others. This is good as it means the game is capable of catering to different groups. If someone doesn't share your opinion, that is fine. This is not a reflection on you or your opinions. Everyone enjoys things differently."

Neereo: Ofc it’s whitemage because you have to fight the irl mechanic of not falling asleep while playing it!

RagnarokiaNG: White Mage being easy is a such a key part of the jobs identity to the point its Evolve mode showcase focused on how easy it was going to be, it is as important to White Mage as jumping is to Dragoon.

theplaneshifter803: Some times I see Astro as pseudo barrier healer. A lot of it's abilities are like, "I'm going to heal a little later, but I have a button to heal earlier." So using these abilities preemptively is kinda important. And not too preemptively. You don't want the timer to run out too early.

KimoKeine: i picked AST because the magic star explosions are so pretty

zacharydavis3579: I omniheal in Savage, but don’t do AST there. Too many “who gets the card when” questions and execution for me. That said, AST is my absolute fav in PvP. Hoping for some fun out of Evolved AST

rxse_01: astro, no question

imnotgabriel: I honestly find Sch harder than Ast. If it was EW then I'd say Astro was harder back then. But since then Astro had buffs and changes that made it easier in DT.

Dunker401: So imo (without watching the video) Astro is going to be the hardest because there’s a lot of cooldowns you need to manage plus more setup is required then most. Now to be a green dps I give that to scholar because to be a good scholar in high end raiding you want to avoid using ruin 2 as much as possible. Or else your damage is much lower. No other healer has this issue. They all have mobility tools in order to keep full uptime without sacrificing damage and scholar gets NONE of that.

seriodenoyarohi7403: I am somewhat surprised you didn't include the issue of Sage's Buttons being hard to distinguish - both by icon and name - for many people. I thought it was one of the more cited reasons under the Sage Polls and I don't think it was meant as a joke as much as it might sound initially.

iamravenous_: I play WHM specifically because it does reasonably as good as the other healers but with much less effort.

b1ngnx33: SAGE : NO MANA!!!!!

starofaetherius: I feel like, for Sage, it is worth recognizing how annoying eukrasia is. Just to place your basic barrier you have to plan almost a full additional GCD further ahead than Scholar. It doesnt make Sage harder than Scholar dont get me wrong, but its a bit of friction that makes the job more frustrating.

feelyourlines: moment to moment basis, astro is the hardest. for pure optimisation and no waste, scholar by a fair margin.

thetwintiger: Unpopular opinion time: Energy Drain needs to be axed again or changed to use faerie gauge.

AB-zj7wh: I'm an AST main and I personally find it very easy after getting over the initial hump of building the muscle memory for using cards

edenhighwind: Personally, scholar was my hardest healer to play because of its anti-synergy toolkit. However, I love seraphism too much to give a harsher criticism.

EnderSackboy: I am the crazy one that plays astro as my main pure healer on controller. I feel it has a good mix of barrier, mitigation and pure heal to do anything. The "delayed healing" idea of some actions are fun too. For barrier healer I picked sage because I simply dont like scholar.

Kkrider84: I'm an AST main and I love it <3 It sort of reminds me of the high APM style healing of Restorarion Druids in WoW (TBC-Cata era). I think I get bored if I'm not spamming buttons and constantly having to manage cards.

BygoneContraption: As someone whose highest level healer outside of Sage at 70 are Astro and White Mage at 58, I can at least say that Sage feels extremely overwhelming. I think it's intro quests need work, as I have had multiple maxed out healers tell me Sage is very difficult to learn. I know I personally failed the Sage intro quest, and when the game asked me if I wanted to make it easier I thought out loud, "I don't think I can play this job," and just walked away from the job all together. I don't hate playing Astro in dungeons, but I'm aware the role isn't really for me.

malice3331: before watching the video From a baseline average probably scholar. To master definitely astro.

TeeRells711: Astro harder than sch? What in the world?

aozoraluxe: Wowie, first

InsertNameAqui1: Considering that these polls are definitely going to be slanted in favor of skill floor rather than skill ceiling (as outside of high end content and optimization, that's the relevant measure of difficulty for the average player), I largely agree here. White mage does have some worries with lily management, but the challenges it has to deal with are generally lighter in scope than the other healers. Sage is always described as Scholar but smooth, with the rougher edges sanded out, and it's very easy to describe it as the shield healer equivalent of white mage as a result. Learning to play scholar is a major set up from those two, but while it is harder, a newer player can largely ignore energy drain or dissipation, press ruin 2 when they need to move, use their shields freely and have the bulk of scholar's healing output and performance at their disposal. In contrast, even when disregarding any form of optimization, Astro has a harder time figuring out what buttons are best to use for a given situation, has the same proactive healing dilemma as shield healers, and notably people tend to be worse at managing regens which make up the bulk of Astro's healing output, so it's understandable that as far as skill floor, Astro takes the hardest healer title.

I'd expect that optimization-wise, Scholar might take a slight edge over Astro, as once you have the required understanding of Astro's healing kit, there is less to build off of, beyond potentially adjusting cards based on other roles in the party, or managing difficult movement with limited movement resources, whereas scholar would have to navigate their various antisynergies and synergies, and figuring out how much of your healing, shielding, and ruin 2s can be pruned in favor of more energy drains and slide casts is something that Astro has less of an equivalent for. Of course, this is something for the more optimization minded players to worry about, but it is largely why I generally place the two as relatively even in difficulty, with maybe a slight lean towards scholar.

makesometime: Hey does this mean I can flex as being the best at healing now? :D Love these videos Cae, excited for the other groups!

posty6350: I'm lvling SCH I'm having my biggest issue with wall to wall pulls, your eos can't keep up with sprint super lame
