Only 300 people can win this mount FFXIV Beastmaster

yamatopi: I totally agree with your tweet. Not to mention that of the top 300, probably around 200 of them will do it every season just to keep it 'exclusive' and prevent others from getting it. I'm sorry people decided to attack you personally for having an opinion.

ValhallaChaos: I want to EARN a mount not COMPETE for it. This is not about wanting a participation trophy thing either. My hope is that it will exclude people that placed before, the leaderboards will encourage the unemployed to place every season or until they're top 100 or first because being top 300 isn't enough for them.

And people need to realize that its not like PvP where anyone can queue for it with their regular jobs. Beastmaster is a *limited job*, there is not much you can do with a limited job aside from overworld content, PFing dungeons and trials, and the content that was designed for it, like Masked Carnival for Blue Mage. And if this is the only content that will make Beastmaster worth doing it will discourage people from doing the content made for it if they can't place season after season if they don't AT LEAST bar the people that placed top 300 from placing again.

cyne122: The cheating one is HUGE. If you play Vanilla or are on Console, you are at a CLEAR disadvantage. And this game is NOTIRIOUS for doing nothing about cheating.

benmorrow1701: Agreed. Like hey here’s a great solo activity you can get creative with and collect em’ all, but if u want the reward make sure to quit your job, learn the meta, and get really sweaty competing against the server if u want the reward. Coooooooooooool.

bigbear3980: I think your opinion on it is valid, even though I’m not sure whether I agree with you yet. I guess I’m reserving judgement until I know more.

I’m sorry people were so horrible to you about it though. Even if it was on twitter, that’s still not ok.

BaghNakh1: Your opinion is 100% valid and here is why.

A lot of people who are into competitions have an idealized view of the competition itself, that this will be a totally fair test of skill and knowledge and patience, among other things. But you know what else competition brings? Cheating.

If "pro" players are already willing and open to cheat their way into Savage and Ultimate (especially for world-first or region-first clears), both types of content that their rewards aren't time-locked or rank-locked at all, you can 100% guarantee that there will be people that they will 100% cheat their way into the Top 300 and get their mount, opening up the possibility of even obtaining the mount with several characters (if rank is character-bound) or multiple accounts (if rank is account-bound), there is probably people who will pay real money to have someone log into their account and carry them into Top 300 just to guarantee that they'll get the mount, which of course defeats the whole purpose of the competition.

Of course I'm not saying everyone who gets into the Top 300 will be cheaters, it's pretty obvious probably most people will obtain the mount through legitimate ways, through actual in-game effort and skill, but there will be a huge percentage of people that won't respect the "spirit" of the competition and they'll cheat their way into it, we already know the FF14 community is very prone towards cheating, especially people in competitive scenes. I wouldn't even be surprised if there is going to be people that will shamelessly show on stream that they got the mount through cheating and eventually SE will have to change their idea and just make the mount available to everyone who finishes up the content, just like with Savage or Ultimate.

So yea, you're 100% right. It might sound like a good idea on paper but trust me, the FF14 community will make sure to convince SE that this was a bad idea. SE is incredibly naive if they think there won't be people that will cheat their way into the mount and the outrage that this will spark, especially from the people that will try their best to get the mount through legitimate ways only to realize they got defeated by someone using cheats or by someone who paid real money to someone else to do the job for them on their account and I don't need proof of this. This already happened before, it already happens right now and it will 100% happen with this content as well.

TheForhekset: I don't like the sound of it either.

Marburg-chan: it's such a weird thing to throw into the game. You don't have a natural ingame way to measure your damage so how are you supposed to minmax to get into the top 300? and why top 300? why not make it a threshold so it rewards everyone that meets it, instead of just a few people. It would be a thousand times better if it each season they added a new reward and a new challenge while giving you the chance of also doing past season's challenges as well. beastmaster is a lvl 50 job and it will prob stay like that for years, adding new content for it by adding more challenges would keep it alive without much effort.

I don't like the idea of keeping the top 300 and barring the top 300 of past seasons, because this will just purge the beastmaster population since this is prob the only reason anyone would play this job, just don't make the rewards limited to a certain number of people and all the issues go away.

hanesate: Well, this will surely help with the botting, win trading, cheating, etc. with ranked type of approaches lol...luckily I find that mount ugly and I would never use it anyways.

Poki_XIV: The first to make it personal is the first to lose the argument. There is absolutely no need for those attacks and behaviours that people hit you with.

Not fussed about ranked rewards personally, But I can see them making ranked mounts temporary exclusives only to roll them out into the pve seasonal rewards or some beast master exclusive currency vendor later.

Similar to pvp seasonal/Series rewards i can see them giving us a way to claim ranked beastmaster rewards later.

Maybe more clarification at fan fest?

kingcrash5360: I didn't like it when they did it with the Ishgard Restoration with the clear rampant botting in the Diadem and I will certainly not enjoy it now.

MilesNocte: I think the same argument you make about unsyncing savages can be made about this mount reward. As time goes on fewer people will be doing beastmaster or any of its content, like bluemage. Id be surprised if there were even 300 active blue mages on Aether at this point. It's also 300 per season, by season 4 thats ~2400 people per datacenter with the mount, so long as there arent a lot of people who continually climb the leaderboard after getting the mount. I think most will stop once they get the mount.

I get what you are saying, but at the same time i think this promotes a healthy and fun competitive environment in the game. At the same time as the hype of the limited job dies down it will get easier as time passes to get the mount.

silverancient7840: Im just glad it's shitty looking mount, so I don't have to care.

StarlightNekoo: this kind of content encourages cheaters.

Strider_Shinryu: They should have just done it as a score threshold instead of a 300 cap. They could even make the score threshold very high and very challenging to achieve if they wanted to keep it exclusive, maybe even to the point where less than 300 people per data centre could have even regularly done it. At least then it would have actually been based on knowledge and skill. Ultimate rewards, for example, are locked to those who complete the Ultimates, sure, but there's no limit to the number of people who can complete Ultimate every patch. Can you imagine the outrage if you were the 302nd person to clear Ultimate and the game was like "Nah, sorry, no weapon for you. Try again in 4 months." All the 300 cap is doing is encouraging cheating and botting, and is encouraging people to camp the 300 spots just so that others can't get in.

I don't even want this mount at all but I think players should still speak their piece on this topic so we don't see this sort of thing expanded to other areas of the game.

bene5594: You know whats also like this? The Tripple triad tournaments... And those are famously bad too. That the top 3 that get that reward. People barely do it cause first of all its not all that fun (i enjoy card games and have made it my mission to collect them all <5 left for a complete set>) but its stuff like this why i actively discourage people into also setting this sortof goal. Those tournaments arn't part of a "skill gap" go get it (while skill helps a bit) its mainly RNG that gets your into the top 3 positions that and people not giving much of a shit of those tournaments. And Yes in those tournaments I can still get that shiney card reward and make it so some one else doesn't get it (not that im a dick and prevent ppl from gaining it but somethimes i wanna have a fun TTC tournament too and see how far i can get).

I expect the exact same thing to happen here people who are addicted to this will get in the top 300 often just cause they enjoy the content. Those who just wanna do it once to get the mount will need to be lucky and play in off seasons to maybe be lucky... Will heavily depend on how long the season is. But if you need to design your reward system with a gotcha like mechanic to keep banging your head against the wall just so you force rng to bless you with a higher spot in the ranking i think that shows little faith in the design itself, which really makes me worry even more for the whole game mode.

twilightgeneral777: Competitive exclusive mounts suck, I don't like the idea behind this either.

dragonmaidparla: Switch to Blue Sky Friend. Although I do like it's only 300. Put in the work get the mount.

MagnificentErgo: Post-Muskrat Twitter is a cesspool; so happy I got off that platform.

300 is a very small pool for a game population like FF14. I'm assuming there will be other stuff to distract me from not being too concerned with ranking, but yeah, it does kind of suck.

julywind4712: Twitter is a cursed place. I'm totally with you on it, they could do it in any possible way, but preferred the worst one sadly.

sebastien953: I don't necessarily mind the idea of having exclusively competitive rewards, but I think it should not be pets or mounts. I mean, the point of this kind of reward is to have bragging rights. But we all know that mounts and pets which become unobtainable eventually end up in the store and / or as easy rewards in newer content. It kind of defeats the point. Titles and portrait frames would make more sense to me here since for now they seem to stay exclusive. When you come across someone with the Necromancer title, it still feels like it was earned. When you see someone on a Gabriel Mark III, you have no idea if it comes from Delubrum Reginae Savage or if the person just stumbled on it in Occult Crescent.

OfLaSoul: It's gonna be botted as well 1000%

strykersgamingltd: Hold true to your personal values, integrity, and do not compromise yourself for anything that require you to commit such an act. Nothing is worth doing that to yourself no matter who or how much people decry or call into question your commitment. Keep you head held high, you have nothing to be ashamed of.

Maria_Erias: Here's my idea on how this could work.

Sure, the first season, take the top 300 players of each server and give them the mount.

Then, next season, make the lowest of those 300 scores the target that anyone can hit to get the mount.

If they wanted to make this a repeating thing, they could - the framework would already be in place. The "best" 300 each season would get a new mount first and set the bar for everyone else to be able to work towards it the proceeding seasons.

MrssantaClaus1: Only 300 ppl does seem a little odd however I have 0 interest in that type of difficulty especially when it's a limited job

blabbitybla2780: Yeah this was probably my worst fear when they mentioned the mount would be a ranked reward last time they showed BST. Over a certain score or honestly even just like top 3000 players would still be fair, but top 300 is a bit unhinged. Feel like that's better served as a title

4NSW3RM3: Maybe it's because I don't care about the mount, but I don't care really. And I mean that in both directions. I don't care if they get pushback and decide to walk it back somehow, or if they keep it as it is.

XIV does have a lot less exclusivity like this, with the only system that seems similar being Ranked CC armor sets (I think their were ranked mounts in the past, but that was before my time). But I don't think this type of exclusivity is bad as long as it is clearly stated in the first place.

Granted, cheaters exist, which does bring to question "why bother, you know a number of people are just going to cheat their way to the top."

A better system would probably be needing to reach a certain, very high score.

Anyway, BST looks like a big mess on so many fronts (I'm still looking forward to it despite that).
